    Upgraded from a 720p Nightowl system to this 1080p system and it was a breeze. Didn't have to rewire anything. Been using Nightowl for years and I've never had a problem. Software is solid, app is straight forward, no problems with the upgrade. Camera offer a wider field of view and much better picture quality.

    These cameras are great! crystal clear images during the day and at night with night vision. definitely worth it. The App can definitely use an update. They can definitely bring it into the 21st century. Other than that, all works great.

    I recently purchased this system and I thought I could not hook this up because it would be complicated. Well needless to say it was a quick install, easy and they are great quality cameras. I highly recommend

    I had these cameras installed outside and they are really great during the day, but only ok at night. My yard is not very well lit and the night vision is not very good at all. I had the wireless system, but I had to change it out because the wireless wouldn't work at my house (something about stucco walls and too many doors and walls). The wireless system is much better quality night vision and the app was much more user friendly. I can't figure out how to download and share videos on this app, the camera's keep disconnecting from my live view and I have to re-add them every time I open the app. For the money, it's a good system, but I wish the wireless ones would have worked for my house because it was much better quality, but it lagged and some cameras wouldn't even connect. I also really wish they would upgrade the app to make it more like the X.

    Clarity is pretty good. Problem is that I can’t seem to keep the connection for viewing on my smart phone or computer. I have to constantly unplug the DVR and let it reset to view on my smart phone. Now I can’t even view on my computer even though the app indicates that it is connected. Very frustrating!

    Good hardware but poor software

    The system is easy to setup and configured. The cameras and the DVR console have adequate features for a well rounded home surveillance system. However the DVR remote access software has connectivity trouble. When installed on a desktop computer the software often cannot connect with the DVR console to view live camera footage. "Connection failed" is the typical error message. To resolve the problem the DVR console must be powered off and on in order for the software to connect. This resolution lasts for a few hours then connectivity is lost again. The remote access software for cell phones also suffers from connectivity issues. It's very frustrating.

    Like all camera systems running the wires suck. But when thing got all put up works great and 1080p is nice for details...

    Owned the 720p Night Owl system previously and replaced it with this 1080p one. Definite improvement on the picture clarity and the field of view (much wider view). The mobile app (Night Owl HD) worked really good too. However, this model failed at just 2 months old. 2 of the video ports stopped working. One of them would show flickering green horizontal lines, and the adjacent port just 'went black'. The cameras are working fine - but the DVR had to be returned. Night Owl replaced it with a newer model DVR, which so far is working great but the new mobile app is a real issue (see many other reviews online about Night Owl X mobile app). These Night Owl systems are great... when they work. I had no customer service issues - the RMA process went very smoothly. I'm not confident that the replacement DVR will last 2 years like my old one. I won't be buying Night Owl again mostly because their new mobile app has some serious issues.

    Great at first

    We were going to the Caribbean for the first time and wanted to keep an eye on our house so I purchased these and installed them myself. They worked great, at first but nothing but problems ever since. If it's not one thing it's another. Today it seems I get notifications but I cant see my camera which is so frustrating. Sometimes the system doesn't want to connect to the router or I constantly get the set up box on the middle of my monitor at home and I mean CONSTANTLY. Sometimes I cant connect through my phone at all and now it seems that I get notifications on my phone but when I try to check the app tells me I'm not connected to my device. How does that work? How can I get notifications if I'm not connected?? One frustrating issue after another.

We recommend having an internet connection that provides you with a minimum of 2mbps so that you are able to check on your cameras through the application.     Ive had problems and problems. One of the cameras is always black and white even on day time. One of the channels is not working. The app is really imposible to use and specially when you want to monitor your children. The app is really bad. I called customer service 2 times and the idiots told me that i need to call again because he did not know what to do. I already spoke with a professional and he told me theses are cheap quality surveillance. For maybe 200.00 more Ive could of got a HD quality system. I will never recommend Night Owl to no one. I even took the sign off from my yard because i was so ashamed for my security system.

    customer service not good camera ok not remarkable

    They said their cameras were compatible with most DVR systems. I bought 4 add on cameras, they do not work on our system or 2 other ones my daughter's boss has. So I buy a1080p, it comes with 4 cameras so now I am just replacing the 4 I have and add the other 4. And it still does not work. I emailed the company and they can not even be bothered to answer. I called and was told I need to buy a new monitor also, of course one of their choosing. I was using a dell that is only a few years old and it worked just fine with our other system. So when just wanting to add a couple cameras ended up costing me way too much and having to buy their who!e system that is not good and is not compatible with anything. Think twice before buying

    Buy something else

    The equipment in these is fine and works without issue. However, the app is terrible and only works a quarter of the time. If you're always connected to your network then is fine. If you're ever going to be away from your cameras and want to check chances are you won't be able to. Disappointed in our several hundred dollar system.

      Hi Marie. Usually if the app is working fine on the same local network as the DVR, the connectivity issue does not rest with the App or system, but rather with your ISP or connection speed. Ensure you have the most up-to-date version of the app and software installed on your phone. Test your Internet speed you are using to connect to the system when you are away from home. We recommend a minimum 3.0 Mbps upload and download speed. Additionally, please contact our tech support team for more advanced troubleshooting.

    To start with it is very hard to get help. If you press 1 for a tech to call you back, it takes a week if they call you at all. If you call when they 1st open hours and get a tech, they sound and act like they just rolled out of bed and still waiting for their 1st cup of coffee. The system itself has had 3 cameras lose night vision and had to have the DVR fan motor replaced so I had to send it out. Low quality in my opinion The company shuts down he app for weeks at a time so you can't monitor from away from home. They don't give any notice of a shutdown nor do they know when it will be back up. The last time was 2 weeks...

Typically when a camera loses Night Vision, but is functioning otherwise, there is an issue with the power. This is something that can be easily troubleshot by one of our technicians and is fully covered under the 1 Year Warranty. If a component is found defective, we will send out the replacement at no cost to you. If the DVR, itself, needs to be examined/repaired, we send a pre-paid label to have it sent in to our team. Regarding the application... we do not shut down the App, period. Oftentimes customers have issues with the application that requires troubleshooting their Internet connection and/or network setup. If there is an issue with the App or our servers, our team works to quickly resolve the issue to minimize the inconvenience for our customers.
