Good Lens but Tough to Use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The lens is one of the best, no doubt, but takes some serious practice and a generally significant understanding of different lenses - especially those that require manual focus.

Posted .The AF NIKKOR 50mm 1.8D Lens is a fast, affordable prime lens that is great for shooting in a wide variety of situations. However, this lens does not include a built-in focus motor, so it will only autofocus on Nikon DSLRs that feature a focus motor. If your DSLR does not feature a focus motor then it will be necessary to focus manually. When using this lens on a DSLR, the lens aperture ring should be locked at its highest f#. The aperture is then managed by the DSLR’s controls.

Not For All SLR Cameras As Stated
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this lens with the expectation that it really was for all SLR cameras, but when I tried to use the higher f/stops, it would not lock or even let me take the photo, sending me an error message, that it needed to be locked. When I looked at the manual it stated, that it was compatible with most Nikon DSLR cameras, except for (Nikon D5000, D3000, D60, D40, F3AF), the box even indicates that this lens is for D-Series Nikon cameras.

Does not autofocus with the D-3000
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, my ignorance didn't allow me to know that with this lens, and my D-3000, that I would have to manually focus. Well, just starting out, this is probably not the best choice for me. :(

Read fine print
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this lens for my Nikon D60 but when I brought it home I realized, it will not autofocus. I had to return it for this reason. I don't know how the lens works on other cameras, but just make sure if you have a D40 OR D60, this lens WILL NOT AUTOFOCUS.
