Customers highly value the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G Medium Telephoto Lens for its exceptional image quality and beautiful bokeh. The lens is also appreciated for its reasonable price, fast focus speed, and ideal focal length for portraits. Its relatively light weight is another positive aspect, while chromatic aberration is not a significant concern.

This focal length is amazing for portraits. I ended up returning this as I switched camera systems before I even opened it, but I've owned it in the past and you should definitely go for it.

Nifty fifty, but 85!

I'd compare this to a nifty fifty (50mm) prime lens, but with a bit more distance. Not ideal for indoor spaces, but perfect for outdoor shooting when you want a creamy bokeh, but plan to be close to your subject. Overall, good quality, but not sure the price is reflective of the quality, could be a little less expensive.

This lens become my favorite. I use it for portraits, small objects and small wild life like butterflies. Results are great. Helps to keep that ISO dial low. Not as fast as some Z lenses but as sharp.

A great full-frame portrait lens - almost immediate auto-focus at exactly where it's supposed to be, with the best bokeh of any of the Nikon f1.8 Primes. A Must Buy if you're a wedding / family / portrait photographer.

My first time out with this lens I was a little frustrated. It was a little slow focusing where I needed it to and missed focus several times. I think my mistake was shooting at 1.8 and would like to give it another chance to impress me shooting around 2.8. I like the focal length of the 85mm, for giving my subject a little bit more space than my 35mm. If I can update my review I will after giving it another go.

Very good quality lens. I am primarily using this for portraits and it’s incredible. It’s so clear and fast. It’s been nothing but a good time with this lens!

Super sharp. Excellent for portrait photography. Used a bit for soccer shots. Worked very well in bright light but was slow to focus in dimmer dusk light.

I was recommended this lens from the camera department. I was able to take some close shots at a birthday party and they came out amazing!!! I can not wait until I can attach it to a full frame camera.

Really like the separation between the subject and the background. Focus is fast and quiet. Though the material build seems plastic-like, it is a plus the weight is lighter than the 1.8d.

I really wanted a 1.4 lens, but the 1.8 is still fantastic for the money. Took my daughters senior pics with it and they were dreamy:)

My copy of the lens produced a green hue and lots of CA. Not very sharp at 1.8, decent at 2.8, by f4 tack sharp. I buy 1.8 lenses to shoot wide open, not to stop down.
Also, I wasn't impressed with the speed of focus. So due to the green hue(which was a pain to correct) and the lack of sharpness at 1.8, I returned the lens. I've seen stellar images produced from this lens, so I more than likely got a bad copy. I'll give it another try in the near future.

Picked this up as a replacement for the 85mm f/1.8D that I've had for nearly 20 years. Sharper, faster(AF speed, that is) and quieter. Good stuff! This is on one of my cameras 98% of the time.

Great lens... I usually shoot with a 50mm but this is more so if you need to be away from your subject but still have an “up close” picture.

I bought this lens to use for a wedding and it did not disappoint. Some of the pictures came out better than the professional photographer the newlyweds hired. It's a must lens for your camera bag!

Tried and true 85. Was a beast on my D810 and a monster on my Z6. You can't go wrong with this gem. Razor sharp pictures. So much detail you won't believe your eyes.

Awesome portrait lens!
Using to mainly shoot my kids with.
After using this lens I would not be able to justify spending another grand on 1.4 version.
