disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My son received this the night before a long car trip. He was happy for about 100 miles. Then it quit working. He could not get it to turn on and we had to spend time finding a Best Buy and wait till they could look at it. Finally the girl got it on and said it was fine. It was fine .....all the way home. We have had the same problem many times since then. Our next problem is that sometimes his games play on it but most of the time they do not. We thought it was the new game he had also bought so we sent the game (not the 3DSXL ) back to the company. After waiting 2 weeks we received a new game back although they found nothing wrong with the old one (this caused him to lose some of his characters that he had gotten special) and the new game did not work in the 3DSXL either. Very disappointed in this. Especially for the money spent on it.

The screen is crooked
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The screen is tilted and has glue on it, I went to exchanged for another one, the result is the same, the Nintendos quality control is so bad. I'm afraid to get Nintendo in the future, won't recommend to a friend

Defective Screen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm an adult gamer and recently bought this Nintendo 3DS XL for myself. Right out of the box, the top screen had a large dust particle UNDER the screen - poor quality control in China. This spot was visible both when the system was off and when playing a game. The bottom screen already has some scuff marks along the right-hand side. Also, even though I have small hands, the system was very uncomfortable to hold and operate. If you're an adult gamer, be sure to try it out thoroughly in the store before buying. All said, I sold the system right away and I'm glad I did.

great improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.almost did not buy at this time based on the ugly colors depicted online. fortunately the actual color is nowhere near the blue color in the picture. it is more of peacock blue with a matte finish and metallic undertone. i like it. previously i had a regular 3ds. the 3dsxl is a big improvement in screen size, playability and battery life. the bigger screen makes everything easier to see. the larger console is more adaptable to adult hands. do not have to scrunch your thumbs to reach the buttons as with the smaller 3ds. i get about 5 hours of playtime on a full charge as opposed to 3 hours with the regular 3ds. by the way, if you are buying this for a small child you would be advised to buy the regular 3ds. the 3dsxl is too large and heavy for small hands. the two disadvantages of the 3dsxl over the regular 3ds are the 3dsxl does not come with a charging cradle, which is disappointing considering how much the the unit spends recharging. also the stylus for 3dsxl is not as nice as the retractible one that comes with the regular 3ds. of course, both of these items can be bought seperately. all in all, another great gameboy console.

Great Buy For Travelers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just want to say, if you have an original 3DS, upgrade to this one if you can. If you don't have a 3DS at all, buy this one. Your eyes will love you for it. I rarely played my original 3DS (with 3D on or off) because the screens were so small and my eyes would get tired after 30 minutes or so (this never happened with my DS Lite, seems to just be more happening on the screen with 3DS games). I wasn't going to pick up the XL until I was reading reviews on other sites and almost every one of them were bragging about how much easier this one is on the eyes. They couldn't have been more correct. I went to gamestop and traded my old 3DS and a few games and got the XL, did my system transfer in the store (took about 30 minutes or so) and walked out with my new XL all ready to go with my ambassador games and all of the other games I downloaded from the eshop. Here are some other changes I have noticed so far. One huge change I love about this system is that they moved the stylus back to the right side, so you don't have to fumble with the system trying to get it out of the back anymore (I know it seems like a small change, but it makes a huge difference in my opinion). Another thing I haven't seen pointed out yet is they took away the green 3D indicator light that was right next to the top screen, not sure how important that is to everyone else, but it was quite distracting to me at times and I am glad it is gone. Also, the 3D slider now has a slight ridge in it so you can tell when you have turned it completely off as well, not a very important change, but useful nonetheles

Near perfection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's face it -- the moment the 3DS came out, we already expected an upgrade somewhere near the future. Here's a larger list of the pros and cons. Pros: - Because the exterior is now a matte finish instead of a glossy finish, the 3DS XL is no longer a finger print magnet. - Screen is larger and makes it a lot more enjoyable - Nintendo continues to support the system with updates - Comes with a larger SD card - Battery life has improved - The range of 'effectiveness' of the 3D has improved Cons: Although the design was improved, there's still more room for improvement. - It feels heavier and your hand will tire out after long periods of play. - There is no illuminated Home button; tend to just spam the bottom 3 when in need to find it (Start, Select, Home). - The above 3 said buttons used to be covered; they are now separate buttons that allow for dust entry. - Unlike the original, does not include a charging dock.

Great addition to the nintendo family
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Definitely a good bargain for such a larger screen to play on compared to the previous 3DS. For any gaming addicts, this device can keep up with a very rigorous playing schedule. I'm not really fan of 3D when it comes to games or tv but it defiinitley adds depth of vision when playing with 3D on. So far all the games that have come out for 3DS defnintley has a graphics difference compared to old devices so don't worry if you think your paying another 200 dollars for the same DS with 3D add on cause that's not the case.

Great Portable System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the 3DS XL blue system in Aug. 2012 to upgrade from my launch blue 3DS regular. The larger screen is the biggest reason, now you can truly enjoy your games on the 4.2 inch screen vs the super tiny 3.5 of the original. Nintendo included a larger battery to last for a longer game time as well. The system 3D is more impressive and easier to view with the larger screen, which can be turned off as well. System comes with a 4GB SD card vs the 2GB SD of the original. You can upgrade to a larger SD card as well. I play this system when I"m traveling and have had a great time with it! Code of Princess is a great game!!

The Next Great Nintendo Handheld!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been debating on purchasing a 3DS for some time and now that I have one I can't believe I held off for this long. This is easily the best Nintendo handheld ever and that's saying something because they are the best in the space. The XL is comfortable, if a bit large, but the increased size is welcomed with the 90% larger screens over its predecessor. The amount of features out of the box impressed me, and the eShop is just great. Plenty of free demos to try out and other cool content like Game Boy and Game Gear classics to download. Hope to see Genesis & SNES games added in the future. The graphics are impressive for a handheld, at or just under the level of the original Wii. Just picked up Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate via download on the eShop and I'm loving it. Being able to pick up a game that looks this great and offers near endless replay value on the go is just awesome. If I have one minor complaint its the namesake of the system, the 3D effect itself. It looks great and I like to use it on occasion to survey an area in-game, but I can only do so in short bursts. I wear contacts and having to strain my eyes to see a pseudo-3D effect just isn't practical. Most of the time I end up turning it off altogether but perhaps you can handle it better than me. If you're buying for a young child I would probably heed Nintendo's warnings and lock the 3D effect altogether using the Parental Controls. Overall I see a long life cycle for this system, like all Nintendo handhelds before it. The third party support has been great so far and you've always got Nintendo churning out new spins on their old classics. I can't recommend this enough, buy one now!

Beautiful screens. Amazing 3D depth!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a decent library of 3DS and regular DS games and I was hoping for the ultimate merging of the DSi XL and 3DS so I was stoked when they announced this 3DS XL. Older games play great on the larger screen with minimal rez-blur and NES download games look perfect! 3D effects are now better than ever with the larger screen and 3D Videos on the Nintendo Video program now look like they were suppose to look all along with some amazing surfing/biking videos that really jump out of the screen and have uncanny depth! Fans of Resident Evil: Revelations take note: You will want to play through again as it looks like a whole new game and is even more immersive!

Nothing could go wrong
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thing that the 3DS XL is great it is not better hardware or software the the original 3DS but the bigger screen makes you think why didn't nintendo just come up with the 3DS XL first. It makes you think how you could ever play games on a smaller screen I think this is a much better choice. If you already have a 3DS I think you should wait a little bit. If you don't it would never be a better time get the 3DS XL.

Supposed to come with Mario Kart, but did not
