Oculus Quest is straight-up magic
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR: if you've got experience with VR's more popular titles and are hoping for a large library of awesome content, wait a bit and come back. If you're new to VR and will be able to stay entertained on a deeply immersive experience across a few titles (for now), literally run as fast as you can to pick one of these up. Unboxing and setup: the unboxing and setup process is super slick and within 15 minutes you're in a virtual world that's as surprising as it is interactive. The headset is comfortable as well as the controllers, and there's minimal fuss required (even if you wear glasses!) to get a comfortable fit. Unlike some of the early VR "headsets" that utilize your smartphone, the Quest is standalone, comes with two smart controllers which allow you to directly interface with objects in the game in a natural way, and is not vertigo/headache inducing. I was able to play for an hour without wanting to take a break. The audio is plenty loud and immersive without requiring earbuds or other isolating mechanisms. A decently sized play area is required if you want the full "holodeck" experience - but I was able to play in about 4x4 without much problem. The headset has externally facing cameras that you use to draw a "guardian boundary" around yourself which shows up as a protective grid to prevent you from accidentally deshelving the contents of your desk. The controllers are both comfortable and touch-sensitive - meaning the buttons know if your finger is on the button, not just pressing the button... so you can create a wide array of mostly natural gestures to interact with in-game objects. You can naturally throw in-game objects and several of the demo games shine while showcasing this natural interactivity. The game library is not as comprehensive as I would like and it's missing several titles that I would have expected would be straight ports... however, that's just a matter of waiting. The tools are all right here... the demos showcase the experience really well... and there's very minimal "clunkiness". If you're a VR newbie or had lesser VR experiences in the past - the whole Oculus Quest experience is nothing short of straight-up magic. Now we just have to wait for the game library to catch up.

Been waiting years for this!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Years ago, I tried a VIVE vr headset at a convention. The game was Space Pirate trainer. It was so much fun but I kept tripping over the wire connected to the PC. Since then, I decided I wait for a vr headset with no wires. HTC does have a wireless adapter but that itself costs 200 or 300 (cant recall) When oculus announced the Quest, I didn't pay much attention until I saw the reviews. I tried to buy one and no stores has them, not even online. Then, while on vacation, I drove by a best buy and checked online and it turns out they had 1 unit available! Picked it up immediately and went back to the hotel. Setting up is extremely easy, although I had problems at first since the hotel wifi requires login, I ended up using the Hotspot on my phone. First thing I tried was Space Pirate and it was the exact same thing I recall playing on the $500+ Vive a couple of years back. Vader Inmortal was great, although short but is ok. Also tried the Rollercoaster game but got sooo sick, I'll try it again later. The only thing I don't like is the high price of games. Looking at the games under Rift, some of the prices are lower. I think I'll wait for some game sales, because paying 30 bucks a game seems steep Otherwise I love this thing

OUTRAGEOUS
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This VR headset is outrageous ! So much better in both audio and visually than one that utilizes your cell phone as a screen. It takes a minute to get down pat using the hands that they give you, but after that it is intense. And the safety border is the best I've ever experienced. This is well worth the price ten times over. Except for a three grand unit a friend let me try once I would say this is the best VR unit I've ever experienced. The only drawbacks are that its a little forward heavy and it doesn't adjust small enough for small heads of children. I would definitely recommend this to anyone !

Quantum Leap
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say, after having played with the Quest for a week, I give it my highest recommendation. I own the PSVR but the Quest is a quantum leap in terms of freedom, immersion and sheer fun. At first I was concerned that motion sickness may be a problem but the system is set up in such a way that it tracks your movements in real time that it seems to be no longer an issue...at least not for me. The sense of presence is uncanny. You put the headset on and you are immediately transferred to a new world. I played Vader Immortal and was just blown away how intuitively the whole game worked. Exorcist Legion is so frightening that it really takes a high degree of courage just to play the game for 2-3 minutes at a time because it is so scary and immersive. Don’t take my word for it, go and get one and try it for yourself. Chances are you will Be Amazed!!!

Get Lost in a Virtual World
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've looked into VR before, but the whole setup required (cameras, a special room, wire safety devices) have made it pretty much a non-starter for me. But with the Quest, there's no wires to trip over, no cameras to install in corners by the ceiling, and you can even set up a zone to play on your couch. Set up was quick and easy. Battery life in the controllers is crazy good, offset by a not so great battery life in the headset. I've seen roughly 3-4 hours before the critical power shut down happens. I still haven't found a way to adjust the initial view setup (if, say, you find a more comfortable way to fit the device, but it leaves things blurry) without having to do a factory reset. There also seems to be a lack of games, though that might change soon. I was expecting more to be available at the outset, at least of a higher variety. Overall, though, I'm very happy with the device, and would easily bump it up to a five if the downsides were mitigated.

Excellent wireless VR experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For those that may not want to read the full review, I will sum it up by saying this is a great stand-alone VR unit! If you are looking to get into VR, I highly recommend the Quest. It is completely wireless, extremely immersive and just great fun for all to play. The initial setup, using a combination of my phone and the Quest, took about 10 minutes and seemed to need a Facebook login, which I rarely use and wish it wasn’t required. During the setup, you create a ‘guardian’ boundary by virtually drawing a square on the ground to safely and freely move within it to avoid any obstructions. The best part of having a boundary is when you get close to the edges of your outline, you escape the VR world and can see your real-life surroundings in a black/white world. There is also a helpful walkthrough of sorts to get you acclimated to the VR world for those that are new to this type of entertainment. Now onto the actual VR gaming experience. There are plenty of games/apps/experiences to choose from at launch. You almost have enough things to do without spending any money since there are a handful of demos, YouTubeVR, Netflix and other interactive apps to try. You can download these items either within the VR itself or through your phone on the Oculus app. Speaking of the app, you can set it up to cast/stream your VR view directly to your phone so others can see what you are seeing. One step more, I was able to cast my phone to my LG TV and share my VR view from there. As I mentioned in the beginning, I feel the Oculus Quest delivers on a great VR experience. I am very satisfied.

Good product...but lacking games
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I would say the VR set is pretty good. The graphics and feel of the system is smooth and seamless. My issue is the price of the games and the lack a variety. Now there are free games and I'm sure the number of games offered will grow but until then it's a pricey system to play games on. As far as the play-ability, it's very easy to use. I did struggle to get the original download completed because it doesn't tell you to actually use the phone to complete it. It tells you that you will get a notification when complete. Anyway, the controllers are comfortable and the headset was as well. I didn't even need to use the spacer for people that wear glasses.

Amazing - never experienced anything like this
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't really know what to expect in terms of VR as I had never really tried VR things out before. So, when I got this and set it up and used it for the first time, I was immediately taken aback. I played the Beat Saber demo that is preloaded and almost fell down dodging these huge "walls" that were coming straight for me. I got both my kids to give it a shot and they immediately loved it too. I wear glasses and though the Oculus Quest is compatible with glasses, it requires inserting an "adapter" first and, more importantly, that your glasses fit certain size criteria. My everyday glasses are a bit larger than what is recommended so when I first tried the Quest with these, I felt like my glasses were getting "smushed" into my face. I didn't want to risk either damaging my glasses or messing up the adjustments, so I pulled out an older spare that I had laying around and those, thankfully, not only fit the size requirements but also if they get a bit maladjusted it's not the end of the world. But, I still wish there was some kind of better accommodation for people with glasses or a way that the built-in lenses could compensate for one's lack of 20/20 vision so that glasses need not be worn while wearing the VR headset. I did try this just to see and the lenses don't improve one's vision - everything was blurry. Maybe this can be worked on for the next generation.

Wireless VR Wonder
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Oculus Quest is a great option for those wanting to venture into VR gaming/media without having to have a high end PC to be tethered to. The OLED display is great with a very wide angle of view. Colors are bright and crisp. I've been quite impressed of its computing power despite being built with a mobile processor. The guardian mode is quite helpful when setting up your playing area, and it warns you when you've reached a virtual wall that you setup. I believe it's supposed to store up to 10 guardian areas on the headset but it has not recognized any of my playing areas as of yet. I've averaged to get about 2.5 to 3 hours battery life on a single charge and recharging is quite nice with the extremely long USB C cable. The motion controllers are very comfortable and intuitive to wield and the single AA batteries last a lifetime! So far there's not a whole lot of games on the Quest, but there are some great options out there. Beat Saber and Tilt Brush have become quite the hit in my household. I absolutley love this device and can't wait to take it over to my friends' and family's for them to try it out because that is what this device is all about, being able to take VR with you anywhere you go.

Great tech, poor comfort
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is amazing technology for the first 6dof standalone VR headset. The technology is almost there. The OLED screen is crisp & bright, with vibrant colors. The tracking is very good 98% of the time. The games are way better than the ones on the Oculus Go. Now for the bad. After 30 minutes, the headset starts to become uncomfortable. I followed the directions for adjusting it but still it felt heavy & uncomfortable. I actually found the Go to be more comfortable. The screen door effect is also more noticeable than the Go. The games are priced up near desktop PC games. They are good but still not desktop quality for the price. The snapdragon 835 processor is being pushed hard to make the games as good as they are. In the end though, it's still a mobile processor. If this is your first VR headset, you will be amazed by it. If you are coming from desktop VR, I think you will get bored quickly with it. I know I'm being hard on it. I believe they will get there with the Oculus Quest 2. It will probably have 5G built in to stream higher quality games to it, instead of relying on a local processor and also be lighter. For now, I'm returning mine and patiently waiting for the day of a truly mobile 'Ready Player One' hmd.

Simply amazing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent about an hour and a half just playing in the tutorial. You can see your virtual hands and use them. It’s mind boggling. Even the intro blew my away. As of day one, there aren’t many games. I got the boxing game creed which again is just amazing. I worked up a sweat and KO’d some dude. This is my second oculus product so I am not 100% new to VR, but I am once again wowed by the fact that I can use my hands to interact with the environment. Big bonus is the force field play area you make around yourself if you don’t have an open area to play in. It lets you know when you have reached your virtual barrier so you don’t punch your bookshelves or other household furniture. Super easy set up when you download the app. Highly recommend. You’ll be amazed. Any guest you have come over and use will be amazed. Super awesome and I can’t wait for more games.
