Customers enjoy the immersive VR experience and the comfortable design of the Rift Headset, frequently praising its lightweight feel and intuitive touch controllers. However, some users point to the lower resolution and resulting screen door effect as drawbacks, while others mention occasional motion sickness and compatibility issues with certain games or hardware. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did extensive research before this purchase. Got exactly what I was expecting. Judging by some of the negative reviews I've seen on here, I'd guess those people didn't do nearly as much research as they claimed. Anyways, the immersion factor on the Rift is phenomenal. While there are only a handful of good VR games for it right now, you have to realize that VR is still in it's infancy. Complaining about lack of games just demonstrates your own lack of research. The build quality is fantastic. The headset itself is decently comfortable. I will say that you need to pace yourself in VR, as VR sickness will begin to set in. Very happy with this purchase. I would advise anyone who is thinking about purchase, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Research it. Know what games are out. Know what system requirements are needed to run it flawlessly. Also, make sure you have enough USB3.0's free, as well as make sure you have a compatible USB 3.0 controller, as not all will work with the Rift. VR is here to stay!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally received my Rift today and after having spent more than a few hours setting it up, trying out more than a few games, and testing out the hardware itself here is my honest review: Setup: 10/10 The packaging was great as many others have already reviewed. Taking out all of the pieces, doing a quick inspection, and then finally connecting the headset to my computer, everything took approximately 10-20 minutes tops. Build Quality: 8/10 The Rift itself looked and felt as though it was built by a master craftsman. It's lightweight, durable, and easy to breathe in while wearing. Despite its weight, you will feel pressure once you've adjusted the straps and attempt to get the best viewing experience (finding the "sweet spot"), and not to mention that over time the headset can get fairly warm to the touch as expected. I would have given the Rift a perfect score had it been designed friendlier with glasses, so if you wear any kind of eyewear you can expect to be readjusting almost every time and cleaning smudges. Minor annoyance. Sound Quality: 8/10 The sound quality with the built-in speakers sounded really great and did a great job of positioning 3D sound. I never had a problem pinpointing where things were within a game, and it was nice knowing that Oculus allowed for you to use your own pair as well, but these alone will suffice for most situations. The treble and bass sounded really good, and helped immerse you into the game that you are playing. The only drawback was they do not completely block out all ambient noise within the room, so expect to turn the game volume up a little bit to mask general background noise. Gameplay: 10/10 With the included remote and Xbox One controller, I still felt immersed into the games that I played despite them not being motion controlled. If playing in a seated position managed to make me forget the real world, then I can only imagine how good the Touch motion controllers will be later in the year for the complete package. For now, everything ran seamlessly. Tracking did not present any barriers until you stepped too far away from its positioning, but I was still able to get a full-world experience to turn completely around, look straight up, and then down at my feet, seeing in every direction while standing or sitting in a virtual world. Value: 7/10 Bear in mind, you cannot simply buy a Rift and not have a great computer to run it. I have an ASUS ROG G20, Intel i7 processor at 3.40GHz, 16 GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA 980M graphics card. Pretty much overkill for the Rift's requirements. Now if you add all of that up for what you get, you can easily expect to spend over $2,000 for a great VR experience. Luckily, I decided to buy my devices separately and waited it out, and in doing so there are many more games than when the Rift first launched. As it stands, being an early adopter, it is a costly expense--very. Would I recommended the Rift in its current state, minus the motion controllers? Sure! Not having full-scale room tracking or motion controllers do not make the Rift any lesser a great experience. Do not believe into all of that HTC hype. Until you have experienced VR (of any kind) and have seen it in action, and really contemplate what new direction this technology will take gaming in, no one can fully describe their awesome experiences in a review. You will have to experience it for yourself, put up the funds, and have faith that you will be satisfied with your purchases. For me, I more than love the raw power of my gaming rig and the Rift, and cannot wait to see what the future holds in future game releases, the upcoming Touch controls, and what the gaming industry will produce in the next few years. If you want a seated or standing VR experience, the Rift is your best bet. If you want the full room-scale gaming, then check out HTC's Vive, or if you want something in between those two, that is in lower cost, wait for the new PS4 and PlayStation VR in October. I have a feeling that Sony's iteration of VR will take off way more than Rift's and HTC's just because of the price point and the available games supported. The games I played were Lucky's Tale (highly recommended), Farlands, and Adrift. The first two are free to play, but all three offer a difference gaming experience.

Excellent Experience and value with minor flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being one of the lucky few to buy the Oculus Rift at a retail Best Buy I didn't know what to really expect. I Own the GearVR (Which is excellent) but this thing has been on my face almost the entire weekend! Amazingly good screens, excellent adjustability, and best of all no buyer's remorse! Here's how I rate it: (1: Meh - 5: WOOT!! stars) Packaging: 4 Some of the sturdiest/cleanest/professional presentations. Everything tucked and wrapped in their own soft velvet compartments. Display worthy, if that's what you're into. didn't get 5 stars because the product is expensive enough. could've saved some coin here. Design: 5 Sleek, stylish, futuristic, and lightweight! I don't feel like a baffoon with it on and after many hours of use both continuous and donning it on/off I didn't grow weary. Everything is very adjustable and is easy to figure out while you can't see. I appreciate that the soft fabric doesn't press into my nose or that my breathing isn't blocked. I do have higher cheekbones so it presses in a bit more there than anywhere else. Visuals: 5 It appears the developers at Oculus swung for the fences on this one. No expense spared and I don't feel like the compromised anywhere. Starting with the screens...yes screens-uh! Two super high resolution panels strapped to the back of each eye cup. Allowing for easy IPD (eye width) adjustment without distortion unlike with singular panel setups. Everything I've heard or read about the computer requirements had me worried that i couldn't enjoy the Oculus right now. I'm VERY pleased to report that my 3 year old computer powered by an EVGA 680 GTX FTW video card, and I7 3K series processor does just fine. No feeling of motion sickness or like I have to lower my graphics settings. (as new games begin to roll out this might not hold out though) Audio: 4 Amazing with Bin-aural 3D sound. I can pinpoint where the softest whisper or loudest growl is coming from! Missed the mark on 5 stars because while they're great quality I still catch ambient noise spilling in from the sides. All can be remedied with a quality Over-the-ear headset. Head Tracking: 3 With just one sensor (can add more for accuracy) the Oculus sensor can lose sight if anything is in the way or occasionally, if you're completely 90 degrees from it. Depending on cost you can improve the tracking experience because the system is expandable. Knowing it didn't come with the Touch controls, this is kind of a bummer considering the expense. However, pairing it with a very reasonably priced LeapMotion controller might help me forget all about them. Immersion: 4 Combining the great audio and strong displays you REALLY do get transported to another reality. Being able to physically peer into a tiny model city or move out of the way of a T-Rex makes it so Visceral! The HDMI/USB 3.0 combo cable can get under foot though so that is a reminder that you're still based in your own reality

Sim Racer perspective
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PC Specs : i7, 980TI, 16GB Ram. Coming from a 3 monitor setup to Oculus primarily to play Sim Racing games. I'm impressed by the immersion and how smooth the games perform. My best experiences are : 1 - Assetto Corsa : Try ASR Ferrari 483 formula 1 car. It's amazing at any track. 2 - Dirt Rally : Any race, very nice VR implementation. 3 - Iracing : Very nice, frame rate is very solid. Vorpx : I was not happy they way racing games ran...example : rfactor 2 ran but in a flat screen, also tried Automobilista and did'nt start. Basically you see these games in a simulated large flat screen which is pointless, so don't waist $39 with that IMO. I tried some other flying games, DCS which was heavy for the system, did not run very well. Aerofly FS2 is amazing, flying over the Grand Canyon in VR has to be experienced. One of the top games for the Oculus. I also tried American truck simulator...amazing experience and I highly recommend it. Bad points : resolution. Yes, it will be improved but not a deal breaker as I read in other reviews. Oculus Hardware : lightweight, build quality is very good, I can use it for hours so very comfortable. First time using I had a minor headache which went away, never had it again. I highly recommend if you are a PC gamer.

My 1st VR experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Oculus Rift at Best Buy on 7-16-17. It was on sale for $399. There was a sales rep doing a demo at the store and i got to test before buy. This was the second time I had tested VR in store. I got home, hooked it up to my PC. I'm running a Asus Xp9X79 LE motherboard, i7 Quad core, EVGA 1060 FTW+, 16gb ram. The setup was a little difficult for me. It says you need at least (2) 3.0 USB slots and (1) HDMI. However, I was able to use (1) 3.0 for headset and (2) 2.0 USB ports for the sensors. the headset has to have 3.0 USB. Hours later, I was in the dashboard menu viewing the virtual space for the first time. It was incredible! I started off playing RecRoom. Play that first! It lets you jump in and interact with other players. There are 5 free games and numerous other games you can download for free or low cost. I can get into Robo Recall and play that for hours. The Oculus Touch controls are easy to use and work very well with every game I play. I spent 2 hours looking around in Google VR! Can't wait to check out The Climb. The sales price for $400 had me sold on the deal. I would recommend at least a 7'x7' space to play around in. Oculus Rift really does pull me out of reality and put me directly in game. Thankfully, there is a grid that appears when you get too close to your furniture. Get the Oculus Rift, hook it up, and play your heart out. Don't forget to invite friends over to test it out. I know this is the early phases of VR so not everyone has it. Overall, this is a spectacular gaming device!

Mind Blowing!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I could literally write paragraphs going in depth on everything that I love about the Oculus Rift. I first tried the Oculus Rift in Best Buy (demo) and the Oculus Rift Dreamdeck demo blew my mind! I was instantly hooked and knew that I had to purchase one. I built my own computer, which has been able to run every single Oculus Rift Game/experience/etc with ease. The setup is easy, room scale works great (using 3-4 sensors), and the games are amazing. Oculus has a much better feel than the Vive, the Touch Controllers are a million times better than the Vive controllers, the Display is better, and Oculus is investing more into game development than any other VR company. Games like Dead and Buried and Robo Recall are so fun. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in VR. It was one of the best purchases that I have made!!!

Most Comfortable HMD, Least Comfortable Games
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Instead of repeating what I expect other reviews will say, I'll report my findings as someone who's owned several VR head-mounted displays. I returned an HTC Vive to buy this as soon as it was available. Yes, the Vive has room-scale presence right now, but it's also the least comfortable HMD I've yet to try. Its nosepiece will gouge your eyes every time you put it on, and then (as with the Gear VR) you'll have to blindly differentiate the left and right earbuds and put them on. The Vive is also so heavy that its rotational momentum will pull it away from your face when you move too quickly. The Rift has none of the above problems. Its built-in earpieces make getting ready for VR into a one-step process. It's not massive enough to swing away from your face during fast movement. It doesn't have hand presence yet, but it will, and its controllers will likely be lighter in weight as well. The best thing about the Rift is that it's almost guaranteed to have the most available software in the future, making it the most worthwhile platform. Oculus Touch looks like it's going to be fully compatible with Steam VR, so it doesn't look like there will be any Vive exclusives. For a Gear VR owner like me, the worst thing about the Oculus Store is that game licenses are platform-exclusive. For example, buying EVE Gunjack for the Gear VR won't give you access to EVE Gunjack for the Rift. Loyalty gets you nowhere.

Nothing like it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been battling with myself about purchasing a vr headset for a while now. I was debating between the PlayStation vr and the rift. After trying both I realized there was a lot more upside to the rift. I was hesitant to purchase because I needed a pretty high end PC to run this. I ended up buying an Asus from best buy which stated it was oculus ready. I can't put into words the experience of using this thing. It literally takes you to a different reality. You can do things and see things that you would never think possible. Sure it's just virtual, but it feels so real. I have downloaded quite a few games and experiences and have really enjoyed them all. Damaged core is one of my favs so far. I can only imagine this possibilities down the road as more people purchase these. This is not just for gamers either. My wife hates video games but loves this. She did the Apollo 11 experience and was blown away. She even enjoyed being in Lucky's tale, I have to be honest, I didn't think I'd like that one, but it is unbelievable. I can't say enough about this thing. If you have the money, buy it! There is nothing really like it. Almost makes regular video games feel boring now. This is the first time I have dropped this much money on something and felt like I got every penny's worth! You will love it

Very good second gen VR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Oculus system is excellent, everything works and works well. If you are expecting to step out on the the Holodeck and have 100% full emersion then you might want to wait until the 24th century. Until then, this will do. Also, as with most new systems, there are not 100 games out there yet. That said, I just landed on the moon in an Apollo 11 sim. It was excellent! This is not just about games, this is about an experience. Installation was easy but be prepared to do a lot of updating. Hardware is gorgeous and the headset is very comfortable and I use other VR hardware regularly - I can tell you that this headset is the most comfortable, well balanced and adjustable. Built in headphones are a nice touch and the cable from the HMD is not nearly as thick as some. This is mostly a sit down or limited stand up experience. This is not a rig that requires a whole room (yet) but that is a good thing if you have a relatively small space. Make sure your PC is up to spec, we ordered a bundled set that will also allow us to do dev work of our own. Are there better systems out there? One I can think of but you'll pay dear for it and you will need a big room to play in. Both have their place. For me, I'm enjoying this.

Excellent VR headset especially with Touch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No frills review. I bought this headset expecting to return it after a week or two. However, after purchasing the headset and setting everything up with oculus touch, I was blown away. At first I tried the free demos that came with it like this game called 'ToyBox'. I was amazed at throwing a boomerang star and watching it come back at me. Instinct popped in and I reach up to catch the star and did. After fooling around with the free basic contect and launched 'Robo Recall' which came free with the oculus touch. I was able to see my hands in front of me wearing gloves, with robotic metal sticking out. I could reach out in real life and grab parts of robots such as the limbs and rip them off at will. When I held a weapon it felt as if it was really in my hands. I could even catch bullets these androids were firing at me. I could dodge enemy fire, box robots with uppercuts and right crosses, etc. I also downloaded a free game called 'Rec Room' which allows you to go into a lounge and choose to play disc golf, charades, paint ball and host of other games with other people for free. When playing paintball or any game, when you see a person bend down, or lay down, they are doing that in real life on their bedroom or living room floor. Their is another game on steam called 'Onward' which has you playing modern warfare in VR with other real players. Truly a riveting experience. Since purchasing the Oculus I have decided to keep it and buy another one when I can so me and the wife can stop taking turns and play games like Frisbee golf together.

Truely Awsome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nearly unbelievable tech, very polished experience, excellent build quality, very comfortable, you can wear The Oculus Rift for many hours and not have any noticeable eye or neck fatigue (which was very surprising), also surprising is the number of experiences that are already available, either through Oculus Home or Steam, many of which are free or under $10, yet there are already a handful of fully fleshed out games such as The Climb (amazing), Chronos, Elite Dangerous and Edge of Nowhere, if you have a PC that can handle it, now is the time to jump in VR and if you do the Oculus Rift is the VR HMD to get, the finish and polish along with the promise of the upcoming Oculus Touch hand controllers make it a no brainer.

The future is here
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Oculus Rift has amazing potentials as shown in the demos. The only problem right now is that it's lacking content. There's not much quality games for it other than racing games. Adult content for oculus is absolutely amazing though (i originally did not intend to buy it for that). overall amazing potential just lacking good content right now. there's no videos/movies over 5 minutes for VR on youtube. the immersive experience demos are about 2 minutes long. still a 5/5 in my books.

Very Very Good but not perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually tried demos of the "big 3" in VR headsets before ultimately deciding to purchase this. Let me star t by saying the Rift does a TON of things right--setup is easy and took maybe 10 minutes to complete. The display quality is terrific; though at times I do find that I can see the edges of the headset with my peripheral vision. It's comfortable to wear and after a little while of gaming with it you won't even realize your wearing it. If there is a downside here it has to be that there aren't many "must-have" games and software yet. I know many people would disagree with me, but I actually found the included Lucky's Tale game entertaining. Its pretty much a total ripoff of Mario games in any ways, but that doesn't mean it isnt fun. Eve Valkyrie is probably the highlight--be ready to drop $59 to download it. Once the motion controllers come out and room scale VR is supported; this will probably be the headset to beat. If you can find one and have a comp that can power this thing--go for it! I'm posting the specs on my comp below which power this effortlessly... Intel core i7 CPU 16 gb DDR4 RAM MSI GeForce 1070 gpu

And the Truth is usually somewhere in the middle
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OK I have both Rift and Vive: Bullet points: -VIVE is brighter -Rift is a little easier on the eyes, a lot more comfortable to wear, and lighter - Rift ghosting (""God Rays"") are significantly worse than Vive -Rift muted brightness makes it appear that there is less Screen Door but it is false. Their actual optics are almost identical. -Vive has slightly larger Field of View -Full Room with VIVE and motion controllers are down right fun So Far: Vive wins but I like the rift for seated experiences and now you can up the pixel density with the debug tool on the rift that is a plus. Oculus touch coming in september will should narrow the margin. Both good products... a preference indeed. Oh btw VIVE has STEAM behind them which is a definite plus. Hope this helped.

The screen is much sharper and clearer, also, the headset is lighter and so beautiful. Unbelievably cool!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are so many fun things to do with this I do not know where to start. The oculus store has lots of free apps and videos which are great. Go to the oculus store and you can see them all. I chose the rift for the ease of use and exclusive titles. There are many times when I am using this I cannot help but swear in exclamation. The environments that have been created are nothing short of amazing. The device is magical. It feels like the future. Flying cars, hooverboards and "real" VR.

Great VR Headset & Touch Controllers are the BEST!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tried the HTC Vive and Playstation VR prior to trying out the Oculus Rift at Best Buy. The HTC Vive is cumbersome to to set up, the heavy cord weighs the already heavy headset down even more and the controllers are nice but not very ergonomic. The PSVR's headset is very comfortable but the move controllers are...meh The Oculus Rift's headset to me is the most comfortable of the bunch, very lightweight and the integrated headphones are very nice and have decent sound, very easy to setup with the desktop sensor; now the best thing is the Touch Controllers, wow, they are really nice and natural feeling, I was sold on the Rift once I tried those controllers..can't wait until they are released. Graphics wise.. they all have some SDE (screen door effect) being first generation hardware but once you are immersed in the VR world it becomes less noticeable. Giving 4 stars because the Touch controllers are not yet available and you don't get the full VR experience yet.
