Customers are saying
Customers enjoy the immersive VR experience and the comfortable design of the Rift Headset, frequently praising its lightweight feel and intuitive touch controllers. However, some users point to the lower resolution and resulting screen door effect as drawbacks, while others mention occasional motion sickness and compatibility issues with certain games or hardware. The available content library is also a point of contention for some customers. Despite these shortcomings, many appreciate the headset's overall performance and value for the price.

Great for early adopters
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome gadget that will surely grow in features with times, but still not quite ready for casual users, I would only suggest to early adopters who want to be on the ground floor of a new technology.

Not ready for prime time.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Oculus demo was good, not nearly as long as I thought they said it would be and much shorter than the HTC Vive demo I did a couple of months ago. The first part was just experiencing visuals, the display is brighter than the Vive, which I had heard it was and that was appreciated. The second demo was a playable sample of The Climb, a rock climbing game. Of course I had to play with an XBox controller, seriously disappointing. I can see what reviewers mean by it not being much better than playing on a computer monitor. I only played for a couple of minutes, but the whole time I was just staring at a cliff face, moving my hands along for little places to grip. In order to move my hands for placement, I basically had to move my head to focus on the place to grip and then use the trigger to grip; really awkward and annoying. The representative there said "winter" for the Touch controllers to be released. Wow, I understand the nature of the competition we're facing and the anticipation from four years of a Kickstarter project, the rush to get products to market...but jeez, Oculus had the head start by a year or two, very deep pockets and HTC is really kicking their butts. I did have a smile on my face quite a lot for the visual tour segments, said "Wow!" a couple of times (a really cool segment was a Tyrannosaurus Rex lumbering down a large hallway and then towering over you), but when you really get into gameplay, it's clear that the real show won't start until they get the touch controllers. I was glad to see that you can move around laterally a good amount with the spatial camera they offer, the Vive's area for movement may be bigger, but it's not like you're completely stationary with the Oculus like it may have seemed. Also, the Oculus Rift headset isn't immensely more comfortable as reviewers had made it sound, the weight is more similar than I had thought, the advantage with the OR headset is the firm bracket or strap holding it on your head, but I don't recall having that much trouble with the Vive's headset, I don't remember adjusting it at all, I was just lost in the fun of the demo. It is easy to ignore the opening around your nose on the OR, which I'm sure will will be helpful for more ventilation over longer periods of time. Oculus really needs to develop their demos to get people excited (as well as making the demo station more visible! I thought it would be a big display, but it was almost hidden. I had to ask for directions at the back of the store to go back and find it to make my appointment), I had a lot more fun with the Vive demo. I'm feeling much more comfortable with waiting to see what develops, glad I didn't throw any money at any of the presales or wait in line at the Best Buy early in the morning to try and buy one of the few made available for sale before even trying it. Look for an HTC Vive demo at a Gamestop store in major cities, hopefully to expand soon. It's clear to me that Facebook/Oculus has zero experience launching a hardware product and they're suffering for it. I think VR will survive and OR will grow to become a great product, but they're not going to dominate anytime soon I don't think. But I'm glad for that, I don't want any one company to hold a monopoly.

Not as good as Vive, not even close
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because I had heard that the visuals were better than Vive. To my dismay, I feel that was not true. Really bad screen door effect, very narrow field of vision, no motion controllers, no motion detection for room scale. So yes you get to sit (or stand) in one spot and play games in 3D. It's like being in a wheelchair versus being able to run. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this product over the Vive and will return this one to the store.

Not impressed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was pretty easy, but had to buy a new computer to get full accessibility. The first day it worked great, cool videos to get the feel and use of the headset and touch controls. A little blurry most of the time, but I was only looking at free videos so I expected that. However, the second day, the sensors would not work. I unplugged, plugged back in, plugged in different USB's, still nothing. Removed and reinstalled, still nothing. This is going back to the store.

Not worth $600
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like so many others I was on the VR Hype Train when one late night I bought the Rift. *It arrived in 2 days with FREE shipping! *The packaging was heavy, simple and fancy! *The unit plugged in and was ready for use very quickly *The Demo video was Extremely impressive! *After all that the experience went down hill super fast! *VR games were no where near as impressive as they look on YouTube. *The "screen door" effect and the extremely low graphic quality destroyed the chance of immersion, and some games flat out made me sick from motion sickness. * Subnautica was boring and unimpressive *Luckey's Tale has no business being a VR Game *Adr1ft was interesting but ultimately a little stale. *Elite Dangerous was low Res, but really fun in VR. Distant enemies are very hard to see its like The Rift gives you Nearsightedness *American Truck Simulator was an absolute blast to play! As a former truck driver I was blown away by how real it felt in The Rift, graphically it had some flaws and nearsightedness issues but pairing the Rift with a steering wheel could be a learning tool to drive a truck! Sadly for me The Rift just is not ready for consumer use, maybe the second or third generation will be. I value The Rift as a $200 toy without the packaging and controller. Went through 2, returned both
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Within a week I had gone through two of these. The first one was from online, it developed scratches on the lenses because of my glasses which it advertised were fine. The second one I ordered in the store after returning the first one and it had a permanent tilt to the left. For $700 I expected something a little more refined. I'll wait for the next one to come out.

Not really all that compatable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want a very nice view finder like the ones we had as children this is the device for you! It has average graphics in comparison to most devices available today. You can see the lines and the pixels without difficulty. If you look past the pixels you are tethered by a cord and the computer requirements are rather high. This is not a novice user product and it's going to be tough for intermediate users to crack. In order for you to get things to run outside of the Oculus Rift universe you will need to buy third party software that cracks the other programs and tricks them into working on the Rift. You also must have the Rift store open in order for it to run anything. There are no standalone drivers every time you put them on it will automatically run the store program. Mine came from the factory with a bad dongle for the Xbox 1 controller. I figured I'd just give them a call and see if they could help me out. Just one little problem, they don't have a phone number that you can contact them on. When I went to see online help I found pages of horror stories of people waiting weeks for a resolution to their problems. I honestly wanted this to work even just a little but it seems like a marketing ploy to me as during the initial setup they ask for a credit card number. I'm just going to sit this one out and wait for a few versions to come down the pike and as soon as it's mainstreamed into the computer world I'll buy back in mine is going back to the store for a refund.

Harassment level is unacceptable.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Their software constantly harasses you telling you your system doesn't meet it's requirements even though you more than exceed them. Their software constantly loads even when you don't need it and will keep reloading 5 or 6 times even though you click the x to quit it. The harassment level of their software is why I'm giving this 1 star. Even with the oculus unplugged it will still do this.

Buyer Beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is a known issue with Oculus headsets. After a few months of ownership, there's a chance that you'll get HDMI Disconnects when touching the side of the headset (to adjust it for example) or even when moving. I had this problem after 7 months (it might have happened sooner if I had used it more than a few times). Do a google search for "Oculus disconnect after touching headset" and you'll find plenty. I contacted Oculus Support and jumped through all of their hoops - providing serial numbers off the original box, off the headset, pictures of original store receipt, a video of the problem showing that it was clearly the hardware, and even the unboxing video I had made the day I bought it proving that it was indeed a brand new Oculus Rift. They still refused to honor their warranty. You don't want to do business with a company like that. Try the HTC Vive instead.

Good idea, poor execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Oculus rift several months ago as a package deal. Unfortunately, the desktop computer that came with this package was a brick. It did not boot up at all and since this came as a package deal I had to return both the desktop and the rift and could not get a direct replacement for the desk top computer (they said I had to return and buy online agaon). These packages are all sold out now, and since I could not rate the computer or the package (that is not available) I must rate the rift. In my opinion this thing is way over hyped and over priced. The demand that this has created is not justified in the performance demonstrated thus far.

1 HDMI port??? Are you kidding me??
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is great... but don't get your hopes up, until you spend 14 hours setting it up. We spent a good amount of money for a system that was missing pieces & only had 1 HDMI port, which made it extremely difficult to hook up to our monitor. I would never recommended this product to anyone, solely for the complete failure of execution and lack of forward thinking when developing the PC. It's a utter joke to think only 1 HDMI port will be suitable for the average person. One piece of advice, think before you buy.
