Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the immersive VR experience and the comfortable design of the Rift Headset, frequently praising its lightweight feel and intuitive touch controllers. However, some users point to the lower resolution and resulting screen door effect as drawbacks, while others mention occasional motion sickness and compatibility issues with certain games or hardware. The available content library is also a point of contention for some customers. Despite these shortcomings, many appreciate the headset's overall performance and value for the price.

VR made me trip over my cat

If you know what you're getting into, the Oculus Rift should meet your expectations. I had been following its development since it was first announced, and waited patiently for the consumer release, only to be completely put off by the launch price. As someone who loves to just look at cool stuff in video games, I knew I'd be fully immersed in VR experiences. But I'm not a crazy person, and I wasn't about to sell a kidney to pay for it. Then the summer sale came around and I was finally able to pick up the Rift plus touch controllers for the price I had been hoping the package would be at launch (three ninety-nine). It's everything I expected both in terms of pros and cons. You've probably already read a lot about the Rift at this point, and I'd say that all the professional reviews are pretty accurate, so my recommendation is to just decide if this sort of experience is worth it to you. The headset tracking is fantastic, the setup process isn't terrible, and the screen is slightly low res and definitely prone to flare and blurriness around the edges. I would have taken a star off for the quality of the image, but I knew about this ahead of time, and given the sale price, it seems reasonable. Also, the audio is better than I expected, as a user of real headphones (Sennheiser HD650 and such). I've put about 20 hours into various games, on both Steam and Oculus Home. In that time, I managed to punch the ceiling, hit the floor with the touch controllers, and trip over the cat repeatedly. It's as immersive as everyone keeps saying. You need some room to move around, and you have to be interested in looking like a dork while flailing about. But dinosaurs will walk over your head, and you'll get to float around as a robot in space, so it's worth it.

I purchased the Oculus Rift because it was on sale as a bundle. The set up is easy and the program walks you through everything. I played the Oculus for hours and had tons of fun! Virtual reality is such an immersive experience, it's like nothing I have experienced before. The horror games are terrifying, but addictive and fun! The shooting games are amazing and the cinimatic experiences are fun too! Highly recommended for anyone who has a decent gaming PC.

5 stars for Bestbuy 4 for Oculus, these are incredible in their own right. Takes some time to get used to VR, just remember to take breaks, Oculus should take another look at the foam/rubber seal, its great and tight keeps out light, buy doesnt breath, I have to keep a towel handy because of the persperation. Other than that these are great, a little screen affect but this tech is new for the public so there will be some bugs to work out. I still love these though.

Outside of the additional cost associated with a gaming rig to operate this, it is a fantastic piece of technology. But if you're investing in the Rift, then it is likely you're the type of consumer who already has a gaming rig or is prepared to dive in. It is truly an immersive gaming experience unlike anything offered on other platforms. A great show piece for visiting friends, and an outstanding platform to bring the family together for group fun.

Received this as a Christmas present this year. The set up was easy and I was online in no time. Had some issues with getting the XBox controller (included with the headset), but I'm running windows 8.1 Pro. If you're running Windows 10 it shouldn't be an issue. The free copy of Valkyrie really shows what this headset can do. Space combat was never so much fun.

The images seen with this are amazing, no matter where you look it seems as if you are in the middle of everything. I does take a rather healthy computer with three USB-3 ports. Had to get a converter to adapt a USB-C port to a USB-3 port on the Alienware laptop and all was well. Set up was not too complex and all went well. The hand controllers are a must!

The Rift is lots of fun. It offers great clarity and comfort. You might find it hard to go back to playing games on a monitor. For seated games, I highly recommend Elite: Dangerous, War Thunder and Assetto Corsa. Having a HOTAS and Wheel goes a long way for these games. If you have the touches, you MUST get a game called Onward. Robo Recall is cool too!

I started with Google Cardboard and moved quickly to the Samsung Gear VR. Both were great but both left me wanting a little more. The Rift addressed those issues and I now have the VR experience I have been waiting for. It isn't perfect and there is still room for improvement but it gets so many things right. I am looking forward to the next generation of headsets but until that time, I am very happy with the Rift.

This VR headset is fantastic. As more and more games come out, it is only going to get better. Glad that I got it just before the new Star Trek game comes out. You need a decent rig to run it well (think something in the 980 GTX series or better from NVIDIA), but well worth the investment if you like pc games. I strongly recommend that you get the motion controllers as well. They really bring it to a whole new level of immersion...!

I bought the Oculus - Rift Headset for my son. He is completely a tech guy attending NAU as a freshman. He hooked it up at home while on his Christmas break and we all had a blast with it. It is the complete VR experience. would highly recommend it.

I used this with a gtx 960 first and it was good for most games but struggled with anything demanding. Switch to a gtx 1070 and it's dramatically better. Space, flying, and racing sims are where the Oculus excels. Elite Dangerous in high settings is worth it alone. Robo Recall is free and awesome. Steam VR has The Lab and a ton of other free games. After the price drop it's definitely worth it. Get the touch controllers for sure.

So far, this is one of the best VR I’ve had. I’ve tried the HTC Vive but I feel like that can also be good with more support but I feel like Oculus is the goto VR for now.

Having spent some time comparing Oculus and PSVR, I can say that Oculus did a pretty good job on packaging and hardware design, but the set up flows and overally simplicity just don't match the PS VR. Same goes with headset comfort: Oculus is simply a little harder to get a good, consistent fit. Where Oculus stands out is with touch controllers - they are far better than the PS Move controllers. But for overall ease of casual play and comfort, the PSVR seems to get my attention most of the time.

If you care about aaa titles get rift over Vive

i own both the rift and the Vive, but if I could only have one I would choose the rift. If you want to have the same room scale experience that the Vive offers you would have to buy a 3rd sensor and longer cable for head unit so the prices would be comparable. My opinion is that the hardware of the Vive is better than the rift, but what good is hardware if you don't get aaa games for your system? I got the rift for their exclusives, and the polish of roborecall, dead and buried, chronos, lucky's tale and wilsons heart have justified my purchase. I am looking forward to arktika.1 and lone echo along with the other oculus exclusives but the only thing my Vive will be getting that can compete with those titles will be fallout 4. The vive has invested in its hardware, you can get add ons to make it wireless, eye tracking (foveated rendering), Vive trackers which make it by far better hardware, I just wish they would invest in having big developers make better games. Oculus (Facebook) has deep pockets and they are using that money to churn out top games that the user base can't sustain at the moment. I would prefer to play good games on the rift now (wilsons heart is a must buy).

    What I was waiting for...

Not going to go TOO in-depth here, but I've been awaiting the arrival of the Rift since it was a Kickstarter project. The product is everything I'd hoped - immersive with great sound and very good field-of-view. It took several sessions of use to get the fit just right - I wear glasses (pretty intense near-sighted) and had to ensure my lenses were perfectly clean, not yank the straps too tightly when mounting - and that's face-first, then pulling the headstraps back & lightly setting the Velcro side and top straps while adjusting the tilt for the cleanest picture. A LOT like putting on a gas mask for the military crowd, of which I was. First words out of my mouth upon power up are not printable here, suffice it to say - astounding. Plenty of free content from Oculus to wet the appetite, and I'm learning to fly a fighter in 'EVE: Valkyrie', but even better - a walk through the psyche in 'NeverMind'. Got my Touch controllers on order and await 'Star Trek: Bridge Crew'...

This is a great Virtual Reality device, its very high definition and comfortable to wear (even with glasses!) Ther arent many games yet because VR is still in its early stages, but the ones currently available are amazing like BlazeRush, Lucky's Tale, EVE:Valkyrie ect. The only down side would be the fact that you require a pretty powerful pc to run VR, other that that its a great device for beginners to professionals in VR.

I've been wanting to get into VR (the Vive specifically) for the past year, but when the Rift dropped to $400 I couldn't pass up the offer. What's sad is that the Rift is just as good as, if not better than, the Vive. I bought it with an extra sensor to get full room scale tracking (something many people still aren't aware is very easily achievable with the Rift). VR is a whole new level of immersion in gaming.

My son wanted the VR for the ps4 but since they were out a X-mas time we decided to wait, after X-mas I suggested that we do a joint X-mas present for him and me since I already had a gaming computer at the home office ( justified for work) :) he jumped at it and we got the goggles and hands. I have not been this surprised in a long time, I had no idea just how incredible VR with this setup was. Highly recommend!
