Barely works
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is not ready for prime time. The first person shooter game is frustrating with lag - glitches - prone position puts you underground and you can’t get Your equipment. There is no computer on the market I have seen that can run the software smoothly.

Ok but not outstanding
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. Won’t always let you update the software. For no good reason it makes you readjust the sensors 3-4 times a week. The controller tracking software isn’t very accurate. Mediocre at best. Every couple of days I have to uninstall and reinstall the software. Just to use it. Will be returning this 400 dollar paper weight.

Broken out of the box.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although the setup was easy, the Oculus was broken out of the box. Troubleshooting online was ineffective. The product is too new in its life cycle and the manufacturing process may not be robust enough to produce quality product. Took it to Geek Squad who confirmed what we observed. Decided to return and not wait for an exchange since there were none in stock. Should have read reviews before purchasing. Will know better next time.

Great system, too many plugs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the rift but if you are deciding between this or another leading brand *cough* Vive *cough*, just know that they are comparable but the rift takes up minimum 4 USB ports!!

To expensive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had to replace 2 of these in 6 months, they are a blast to play but the build quality is suspect. I'd save your money and go to a VR arcade for the best VR experience.

Nothing more than a gimmick
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchasing price is just the beginning and it’s more expensive than any console. My son played with it for two days and went back to his regular games. 500$ wasted.

pain in the behind
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You will need windows 10 and It used all my spare usb ports too. Oculus home and one free game worked but steam games would not launch from steam vr. The sensor setup was a pain and said I was too close even though I was 3 feet away. What I played looked good but finally gave up. It kept going back to oculus home. I'm saving for the vive that only needs 1 usb. The painful part was you had to keep pulling off the headset for setup and look at monitor. I really wanted to like it but it was too needy!!

Worked out
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needs a longer cord and better vision adjustment. Battery have to pop out and back in for controllers to work. Need to adjust for long comfort game time.

Annoyances and limitations ... but WORTH it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've seen people write less than stellar reviews of the Rift but I am looking at it based on the current state of VR, not some imagined version of what I wish VR were right now. Playing the Rift is incredible. I'm over 50 and have played games all my life, but had kind of found myself less interested in gaming the past few years, and the Rift has reignited my excitement for gaming. I'm going to start out with the negatives. VR can be frustrating as is it right now for a number of reasons: 1. You need a pretty powerful rig to get the most out of it - Although you can get away with a less powerful CPU and GPU, Rift really shines if you have a newer, more powerful processor and graphics card. I'm using a thin and light laptop with a 7th gen i7 and 1070 GTX with 8GB of video memory. You have to have a dedicated video card / GPU, and a fairly recent and powerful one at that. 2. You need a lot of available ports to get the most out of it - I have added a 3rd tracking sensor so I can do room scale so I am using 3 USB 3.1 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port and an HDMI port. I have 2 sensors on 2 of the USB 3 ports, 1 on a USB 2 port, and then the other USB 3 and HDMI are for the headset itself. I also have a USB C / Thunderbolt port on my laptop, so I put an extension on that that gives me another HDMI and some additional USB ports that I use for my wireless mouse and a laptop cooler and I use the additional HDMI to output the screen to my 4K TV so when people are playing, others can see what's going on. Pretty sweet. 3. It was a pain to setup the first time. My laptop was brand new and I had already updated my graphics drivers and all other device drivers and updated Win 10 too before trying to setup the Rift, but it still was troublesome. My computer wouldn't do anything when I plugged in the Oculus sensors. Eventually, thanks to Google I figured out that the drivers for the sensors were not loaded. I eventually found a program called OculusDrivers.exe in one of the folders and ran that and BOOM, everything worked. But it shouldn't have been necessary to hunt down that file buried in a directory in the Oculus folder. 4. Screen door effect - A limitation of current tech - There is a noticeable black grid over everything. You are actually seeing the spaces between the pixels due to the screens being so close to your face and the lenses. I notice it every time I use it, but only for a few minutes...after that I am enjoying myself so much I don't care. 5. Cables - The cables can be annoying. Especially if you are playing something that requires you to turn around often and/or walk around. Now, with all these negatives listed, why am I saying it's 5 stars? Because none of that stuff matters once you are experiencing vr with motion controllers. The Oculus touch controllers are really great. Much better than the motion controllers included with the HTC Vive or the Playstation VR. I can't wait for all the improvements in the future generations of VR, but even with the current limitations, VR is incredible. It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't tried it how big of a difference it is. If you have tried Google Cardboard, or Daydream, or Gear VR, you still don't understand it. Tracked motion controllers and being able to move around in an environment is just amazing. GET ONE!

Loading issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for the child in Feb of this year. We upgraded the computer’s graphic card before purchasing, so it would be compatible and work properly. Had issues setting it up, but eventually got it to work. Unfortunately, it’s been little, unsolvable issues here and there. Didn’t get much use because of that. Tried using 2 or 3 times, in the past 3 months and it causes more frustration than enjoyment. Tried again today and the child is no longer interested because “the games won’t load correctly and when they do, it’s glitchy”. I can’t find the receipt and at this point, I’m sure we are way past the allowed return window anyway. I came back to read reviews and see if anyone else was having the same issues, but didn’t see any. Maybe we just got a defective one. I have no idea. I’m just reviewing what our experience has been, in case someone else goes through the same thing. I guess we have a paper weight now. Waste of money.

Oculus Quest is better for price now
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good technology, outdated for VR in 2019. Go with Oculus Quest or if you are very into VR, splurge on Valve Index.

Cable broke.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love how just 3 months after the warranty was up the cable breaks and I find out I can't even buy a new one even if I wanted to because they don't make them anymore. I'm not really to invest into a new VR system yet when I've only had this one for a year. But I do know for sure I'm not going with Oculus when the time comes to buy a new one.

PREPARE to feel extremely sick.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had it for a week and almost ended up crippled from how sick the VR headset made me. What others dont mention, is that it generates HEAT. Yes HEAT, into your face, eyes, and brain and its so strong that after an hour it leaves a huge red outline on your face. Its as if you could feel the radiation seeping into your brain. Any sudden jerky movements with this headset on and you will feel like you want to barf. Eyes get extremely fatigued and your vision starts to noticeably drop within days of use. I now have trouble reading road signs in the distance when driving. Ask yourself if you really want to put such a toll on your body and health for a mediocre experience. There is simply so much more negative to write about this but I would only beg of you to do the research yourself. If push comes to shove, purchase this through bestbuy, use it for yourself, see if you also have these symptoms, and if its not for you, you can always return it. I only wrote this out of concern for you all and to warn you about things others don't. I have also read that the HTC Vive does much better to prevent these side affects.
