Upgraded from a Sony X800 to get in on Dolby Vision and was not dissapointed. My old player is now a paperweight.

I am extremely pleased with panasonic's 4k picture quality using an audio quest pearl HDMI 48GB cable on a samsung 75" Q80B. Also, blue ray up-scaling looks fantastic too!

Easily, the best 4K player you can buy for the money the visuals are incredible especially if you have a Great 4K television, the better the television, the better the picture

The Panasonic - DP-UB820 - Streaming 4K Ultra HD is an awesome player, but $500 for a plastic cover is ridiculous! The GUI is downright awful. That said, it’s the very best performing player for the money. It’s almost exactly like the UB9000 (with metal cover and better DACs), but that one is over $1K, again is a ridiculous amount to charge for even a flagship 4K Blu-Ray player. The 820 covers every hdr format.

Not the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market, but definitely the best and most reliable.

Though I'm happy with my Pioneer UDP-LX500, which I ordered here July last year, the top model Panasonic dp-ub9000 was hard to pass on. Reviews found Panasonic gave better picture quality, though sound quality was edged out by the LX500. The ub9000 does have remote control of the analog outputs, lacking in the LX500. But the dealbreaker was the lack of zoom control; the LX500 does 4x zoom and lets you center any part of the zoomed image. I'm now looking to buy a 2nd BD player. I might want it to be a Panasonic, hopefully with better sound quality but definitely not without complete zoom functionality. But unlike many brands there's no consumer feedback page anywhere on the Panasonic website, so there's no way to forward my product ideas to their marketing team.

After 18 months of use the tray was stuck in the half way open position. I used the remote control code to get the tray to open all the way but now it won't close. What a disappointment after spending all that money. I don't think I can trust Panasonic ever again. But I do have to say the picture and audio was great.

There is no surprise to me why Best Buy overall sales and net profit were down in 2024. It's becoming apparent why this retail chain will eventually close or suffer further reduction in profitability. Within the past 30-days i ended up purchasing a LG C4 and Panasonic DP-UB820K from their competitors because of the inflexibility to beat published prices from others. The decision to purchase the LG C4 from Sam's Club saved me $500 plus an additional 5 year warranty! I was even willing to go from a 77" television to a 65" television if Best Buy woukd match the price. There sales price ended over the weekend, which i didn't have a truck at that time. However i was able to get a truck on Tuesday. I just asked if they'd honor the price from three days ago and they said they couldn't. The decision was easy for me, I just went next door to Sam's Club and got the LG C4 cheaper. They lost a sale on this television. Today, i brought in a sales price from Amazon on a Panasonic DP-UB820K and tried to get a price match. Needless to say the sales associate said even thoug it was advertised on Amazon since it was not Amazon listed as the vendor they wouldn't match the price. It was like $60. Another lost sale. The kicker is that in less than 30 days the price will drop, as it did in 2023. And if i worls have gotten it today through Best Buy I would have purchased today i could have gotten a price guarantee, but considering how inflexible the sales model is why would i give them my business. After all, any company that doesn't have the foresight to see trends in consumer electronics isn't worth my hard earned money. I can't see the incentive in purchasing from Best Buy at all. If it's the Geek Squad, please. You can just web search everything and get answers to 90% of your issues. If it's the lame membership program being pushed, please, i don't know of anyone that needs that. Best Buy, to me, doesn't deserve my business because i can get the same exact treatment everywhere else. A restrictive sales model like this is perhaps why sales are decreasing in this company. It's not me saying it, but the sales figures point to a major flaw in this retailers approach to sales. If you can't offer some flexibility in matching prices or see future sales events that every other retailer will offer then what's the point. Don't say it's sales because it's non existent. Don't say it's the Geek Squad - only really technically challenge need that. And please don't say it's the membership - it's just not worth it. So, what has all this taught me? There is no advantage in allowing Best Buy to receive my business. Through the restrictive sales model they haven't earned my business. I'll choose to purchase my electronics elsewhere. That's what i feel like Best Buy is telling me each time i try to buy something from them.

Literally the only reason someone might drop $500 on this is because Panasonic's name is still trusted by most. What most don't account for is, Panasonic in the US essentially vanished for several years and only recently came back about a year or so ago putting out a small handful of new merchandise. Basically what you'll undoubtedly see from other reviewers are those with short-term experience with theirs. I've had mine for just under a year now, got the extended warranty because of it's high cost and am currently getting the runaround with Panasonic telling me that the stores extended warranty means I need to deal with Best Buy while Best Buy tells me that while covered by the warranty it still goes through Panasonic in the process. Repeat for the past 2 and a half months so far now. Meanwhile when it stopped working it was just dead. Plain not doing nothing and stopped dead in the middle of playing a movie. Even if I accept that I got a bad unit, the way it died and the responses I'm getting from both the dealer and the manufacturer tells me to avoid the current offering from Panasonic. Panasonic, they're essentially now a has been brand. A once great brand that died in quality and is now riding their reputation of old until people catch on to the fact that that reputation is no longer true of them.

I purchased this 4 years ago, it supposed to be the best. I had to have it sent out because it was skipping or actually going silent sometimes for a second but through out the movie about every 20 min. And then it worked for about 3 months and then started up again

Just purchased this past weekend. Unboxed, plugged in and popped a disc in. Was making odd, loud noises. Didn’t make it through the first movie without freezing up that required a total shut down. Wouldn’t play 3 of 10 discs I tried. For a $500 unit, 30% failure rate is unacceptable. It’s going back when I have time this week. What a disappointment

It's all about the HDR optimizer. It'll make any projector display a better picture with 4k discs. Since projectors aren't super bright, the optimizer helps the picture pop. With the Dolby Vision support that other lower Panny models don't offer, this is the one to get.

This is the worst Blu-ray Player ever! Terrible piece of garbage! Four 4K discs in a row had constant playback problems with sound and picture quality. And Dolby Vision completely ruined my 4K Disc of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. And I have a Sony X950H TV what supports Dolby Vision, Please no more Stupid Gimmicks being forced on me! Where are all the positive reviews coming from? because 4K definitely doesn't live up to the hype. Most discs don't work properly on when played on it. and Many discs start out way too quiet then gets way too loud the more playback goes on. It is way too finicky and can't handle much. Even the smallest amount of rewinding, fast forwarding, chapter forward, chapter backward makes it go haywire. It is terrible and clunky.
