A: Yes, the UB820 will play 4K HDR MKVs from an external hard drive (It has to be plugged into the rear USB input) but it will not play any of the lossless audio tracks. These include DolbyTrue HD, DTSMA-HD and Dolby Atmos. It will play lossy audio tracks (Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 or DTS 5.1/7.1). The UB820 will also not recognize chapter marks in any MKV files. Despite these "shortcomings", as a pure disc player, the 820 now stands at the top of the mountain. I have a still brilliant Oppo-203 and from a pure video standpoint, the 820 now edges it out.- A: Yes. It will auto play a DV encoded disc in DV but only if you have DV turned ON in the player settings. If DV is set to OFF, it will play the disc in HDR.
