I felt compelled to write a review of this marvelous player. It blows away my previous player, the Sony X800. Though that is a very solid player, the PQ isn't as good and the sound isn't as good either, and no DV (dolby vision). The X800 has a better build quality with more metal but that's where it stops.
After hooking up this player, I threw in Baby Driver, which the first chase scene with his red car looks and sounds reference. I've also watched The Office on blu-ray and the upscaling on this player is second to none. It upscales blu-rays and makes them really look close to 4K. Next we watched Prisoners and having seen this movie several times on blu-ray, it was easily the most detailed and crisp it has ever looked.
The network streaming is also right on track. I have the Simpsons and Seinfeld ripped to my network hard drive (don't worry I own the discs) and both look great. Now it's standard definition but the network interface is nice and works just fine.
I would recommend this to anyone willing to spend a little extra to get the best audio and picture quality for your 4K set. I have a TCL 55" that does DV and it just looks so sharp with this player. It also upscales beautifully.
Highly recommended!!

At first I didnt really see much difference between this and my Sony x700. I mean, both do look amazing and I recommend that one if you dont wanna spend this much on a player.
The best is that it auto switches to Dolby Vision. The x700 made you manually turn it on and off. Sometimes I couldnt find details on the disc packaging to let me know if it even had dolby vision. If it does, you wanna watch it that way. Of you dont care about DV or your tv doesnt have that feature it's no big deal to you.
The UB820 has this awesome HDR button that allows you to brighten the HDR more if youd like. It has like 4 settings. Now, you're probably thinking that's something you can just adjust on your tv. It's not. I tried to do that and mimic thos feature bit no settings are the same and if they are it's way too many different adjustments compared to one button push.
This HDR button also works on streaming 4k sites like Amazon and Netflix.
You can also change the wallpaper on your homescreen which is cool. I have a Halloween one on mine right now.
I do wish the image of the movie appeared when a disc was in. My Samsung player does that and I love it. Shows a picture or mini poster of the movie.
The bad is really just that it doesnt have many apps. It's a shame too because I think it would make this player stand out more. I use the built in apps or firestick most of the time bit then I cant use the HDR button. Also I wish it had an input to run something else thru it.
Great player and the price is a little higher than I'd normally go bit if you're ok with it you shouldn't be disappointed.
And yes, I still do use that HD-DVD player in the picture.

I bought the Sony UBP-700XM and it would skip or freeze on many 4K Blu-Ray's I owned, even new ones! I returned it and found this at Best Buy so I picked it up and all I can say is WOW. Picture is amazing, colors are more vivid than on the Sony, and it played every movie I had FLAWLESSLY. Highly recommend and it's worth checking out open box deals at Best Buy. They're one of the few retailers I trust buying open box from!

I am not a Technical Expert.
My set up
Sony 65A80CJ
Onkyo RZ-50 plus Klipch Dolby Atmos Speakers 5.1.2
Panasonic UB820-K
Xbox Series X
HDMI 2.1 Cables
Using the dedicated dual HDMI outputs of the 4k player. 1 for the video straight to the tv and 1 straight to the Onkyo RZ-50 for audio. 4k disc picture looks Amazing. Movies Played or have Queued to watch so far SEE photo Below.
I do have a XBOX Series X But I really do think the picture is much better on a dedicated 4k player, plus the Xbox does not play movies in Dolby Vision.
Value rating is subjective. My 3 star Is someone else 4 or 5
If you have a Higher end 4k tv with IMAX enchaned and Dolby Vision and like watching 4k movies on Physical Media at their best, This player is Recommended.
If your tv
I was a little hesitant in the purchase 500.00 is alot when you already have a 4k Player XBOX. I am not disappointed.

Had the Sony UBP-X800M2 for a while as my first 4k Player. I decided to upgrade to the Panasonic because I was annoyed at having to manually switch dolby vision on and off depending on thr movie I'm watching.
The Panasonic has proven to be as good as everyone says it is. The hype is well deserved.
When it first begins to read a disc, it gets somewhat loud. But that doesn't last for long. About one minute tops, then its whisper quiet. It's a great 4k player if you can swing it!

Outstanding sound and picture from the UB820. I'm coming from an XBOX for UHD discs and it doesn't support Dolby Vision. This Panasonic does. It blows the XBOX away in both Sound, Video, and unit sound (disc drive). If you don't need the added HiRes audio options of the 9000, this is the player to buy, for half the price.

The Panasonic UB820 is the best 4k UHD player on the market. It has Dolby Vision support that automatically switches to it when content is played. We had Sony x700 and Sony x800m2 players that always froze and skipped when playing 4k UHD discs. This player is solid and runs smoothly. If you're a movie collector and take it seriously then this player is worth it, much better than watching on PS5 or Xbox. I highly recommend it.

The many configuration options and upscaling ability of this player are amazing. HDR modes really make the picture pop. My only cons are 1. that the remote is a little clunky, but can easily be gotten used to, and 2. I wish the unit was a bit cheaper.
If you can afford it, the UB820 is a very good machine and well worth it!

I love this player. I switched from Sony x800m2 due to performance issues and lack of automatic dolby vision detection. This player plays disc flawlessly and the picture quality is on point. This is definitely an upgrade, although it is not perfect. The only minor issues are cheap plastic build, weak remote, and it's kinda slow going chapter to chapter on UHD movies. Otherwise I highly recommend.

This is the best 4K UHD Blu-ray player I’ve ever owned. It is far better than any Sony I’ve owned. The picture is outstanding as well as the sound quality. I only had one issue and it involved disc startup. My lens was apparently dirty out of the box, so I purchased a Best Buy laser cleaning disc and it solved the problem. Excellent product!

Watched only about 10 to 12 movies on this blu ray player all ultra 4k and the videos are super awesome. Price is high but the reviews are good for this lasting. I did buy the bestbuy warranty on this. As for streaming on this player is a little difficult but it work just hard to get there for me anyway. All the other reviews said this is the best 4k player now for the money well I agreed now.
