Not impressed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Works great with PS4 home screen and Netflix. Programmed to my LG TV to control volume with ease. Cons: Does not work with VUDU, REALLY?! Will not program to my newly purchased Sony receiver. Even though it programmed to my tv, not all the buttons work. The arrows and center button does not work. To arrow up I have to press the "record" button. To arrow down I have to press the "back scan" button. Will be returning. Not worth $25, maybe worth $5.

Not what I was hoping for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read the reviews on this controller before purchasing it and decided to give it a go anyways, here's what I found: *Pairing was a pain, kept timing out before it would appear on my screen to select. Finally figured out to have it appear on screen, then put it into pairing again and select it then. Worked after that. *Paired with my TV, but is useless in that aspect. You keep having to hit the gray "TV" button just to adjust the volume, then the "PS4" button when you want to move things on the screen again *Not all controls work in different apps, here are some examples: -Hulu Plus - Can't go back out of a selection made (I hit the "O" button which normally does it on a controller too, it wouldn't work) -Netflix - Laggy response when fast forwarding/rewinding, constantly went farther than where I intended -Funimation - Similar to Netflix with lag, also had input lag when browsing titles (I'd hit right/left 2-3 times before it would move, then it would jump that many forward/backward) -Amazon Instant Video - It worked pretty well here, only complaint was when typing on the keyboard for search, it seemed like I had to hit "Select" on the controller a couple of times before the letter would register - DVD/Blu-Ray - This is where this controller really shines. It's near flawless, with my only complaint being what I'd stated previously in regards to volume adjustment All in all, I agree that this product is inherently flawed and feels very cheap in the hand as well. I will be returning it and putting my $30 toward getting a Harmony remote control.

This is the remote you're looking for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well it might not be the remote for you. Depends on whether you use an amp for surround sound and also how you hook up your setup. If you have your PS4 running to your TV directly and then your TV to your amp and you can control the volume via the TV, pick this bad boy up. If you on the other hand are like me and have your AV receiver act as your switching station for all your HDMI devices, then move along. The remote offers punch-through volume control which can only be punched through to the TV. This is where the Captain Picard facepalm pic would go. The manual even has a misprint basically saying you can punch through to anything but nope, the website clarifies it's only to the TV. There is a hope though, 3 of the buttons (though the manual says there 4, it's wrong) are programmable and the remote can learn. So I had 2 of them learn volume up and down from my receiver's remote. Eventually though I just decided it's a huge pain and returned the remote. So to wrap up, if your connecting PS4 to Receiver to TV, do not get this remote unless you just have to have it. If you're connecting PS4 to TV (to Soundbar/reciever) and use the TV for volume control, then this is your remote control solution.

Better than the App and the Controller
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Read the instructions. You can control the PS4 and change the volume on the TV. I don't watch much Youtube, I'm mainly a Netflix watcher. It works great for browsing the web as well. I shop around on the Playstation store with it to. They were selling out fast when I got my remote.

Fully Servicable Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used this remote to navigate the menu system of the PS4 interface and for the apps that I use, it works perfectly. I have used it to fast forward rewind movies on Netflix, blu rays and even navigate through the NBA app to watch my Miami Heat play. The remote works just as intended and feels like a quality made item. It requires 2 AAA batteries. I would recommend using this item to consume entertainment media instead of a clunky controller.

exactly what you expect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a remote for the PS4. It works exactly as intended. It's useful. It goes on sale regularly and I recommend waiting for a sale. It's not worth full-price.

Good PS4 Remote, with 1 tiny annoyance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS4 movie remote control works great and can be used easily for navigating Blu-Ray, streaming apps, and the PS4 menus. It's got all the buttons anyone needs for this purpose. The only tiny set-back is that the remote control itself likes to automatically shut itself off after about 30 minutes. So later in a longer show or movie when you're trying to quickly pause/rewind, or simply finished and ready to exit the menu/streaming service or turn off the your PS4, we need to turn the remote back on and wait several seconds for it to wake back up....Not a deal breaker, though.

Battery drain, short life, unreliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as it is the "official" remote, even though it is not Sony. I hope Sony wishes up and makes their own. You have to constantly turn this on to get it to work. And even with that, I have gone through more batteries in the three months that I have owned this than I ever did with my PS3 remote. Also, if you have younger kids that are grabby with remotes, this will not last you long. My PS3 remote survived two consoles and three toddlers. Three months and minimal abuse and this remote has thrown in the towel. I would not recommend this, however the choices are limited.

Awesome Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this remote so I didn't have to use my PS4 remote and so far it has been working like a charm. I even set it up to work with my TV. I recommend to buy for people who just want to use their PS4 to watch movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or BluRay/DVD. Great investment, made my life much easier.

Useful and about time.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been needed from the launch of the system. The PS3 had it's not long after launch, not years later. At least this one uses Bluetooth without a dongle like other after market PS4 remotes. Does use IR for the universal remote features.

Finally!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can watch media and movies without using the controller. Pretty sleek and fitting with the PS4's style. One minor gripe - it could have included the batteries like EVERY other remote I have ever purchased for a game console.

Good, not great...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The disappointing tale of the PS4 media remote starts with the PS3; as in, the PS4 remote had very big shoes to fill, seeing how the PS3 media remote was the perfect piece of companion 'tech for your system. With that being said, the PS4 remote underwhelms. The construction doesn't feel as solid as the PS3 unit and worst of all, the size and shape are ungainly. Sony and the company they hired to make this remote should have looked at the Xbox 1 remote; that piece is small and is just as functional as the PS4 remote. So far, the media remote works as intended, but then again I would expect it to. However, the most annoying feature about this remote is its tendency to "go to sleep." I get it, the remote fancies itself as a power saver, but the problem is that every time you try to use the remote after a certain amount of time you have to "wake it up" in order to use it. If you're trying to pause a movie or something because Scarlett Johansen is coming on screen in a tight Black Widow outfit you'd better know how to use the rewind button, because you will miss the moment as your PS4 remote tries to wake itself up. Again, take a look at the Xbox 1 remote: it wakes up just by moving it and is ready to go before your finger finds the button. Also, look at the PS3 remote: it doesn't sleep at all, is always ready to go and battery life on that piece was just as good as anything else. In summary, the PS4 remote does its job, but it does so adequately, and with the annoying features of being too big, and being too difficult to wake up when you need to use it on a moment's notice. The sad thing about this situation is that you don't have other alternatives; this is Sony's remote and I hardly think that they will revisit this merely satisfactory piece of hardware. Buy this if you have $30 lying around, or you just hate the controller that much. Outside of those reasons, you could live without the PS4 remote...

Cool Remote

Needs improvement, but ok
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It functions like a universal remote. Not specific to any one device, and can't do what all my individual remotes can do. There are no batteries included...not a big deal, but when most devices now are rechargeable, and the batteries in the remote you are replacing have AA's and this remote takes AAA's....sigh. A rechargeable remote like the controllers would be great :) I could not use the auto sync to connect my TV, etc. I thought I was doing something incorrectly. A few forums later, and no, its not just me. I used the manual input codes at the back of the instruction booklet and that worked. The power button doesn't turn the ps4 off. Kinda annoying, maybe its that way so you have to scroll to the menu and pick the kind of off/sleep mode its in. There's no backlighting, so if you're watching something in the dark and want to use the remote, either get really familiar with all those tiny buttons, or have a light handy to see what button you're pressing. I can't scroll through the menu on my tv. I can access the menu just fine, but there is no button on that remote that will let me navigate through it, I've tried every one. As a basic universal remote to turn all your devices on and off, adjust volume, it works well and really saves ps4 controller batteries while using the ps4 for non-gaming purposes, but I've kept my other remotes if I want to change menu settings.

Does what it needs to
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works well with everything on which I have tried it, so far. Now I can control my PS4 for video streaming, and my TV, etc. all with one remote. Only thing I would change would be to add L and R (1, 2, 3) buttons to support those apps which have not yet added full support for this remote, but i haven't personally encountered any of those. I mainly bought this to better utilize the PlayStation Vue TV streaming service, as well as Netflix, for what it's worth.

Nice alternative to PS4 controller for streaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this remote so that I could use my PS4 to stream things like netflix, hulu, vue, etc. and not totally drain the charge out of my PS4 controller every night. Yes, you can turn off the controller to save charge, but I don't want to do that every time I decide to push a button while streaming. While the remote has a few things that bug me, like difficulties powering on and off the PS4, all in all it does it's job and I'm pleased!

Good to have a remote

Garbage pure and simple
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote is pure garbage. Avoid at all costs. The biggest issue is I could not get the remote to sync with my TV. No matter what I tried it just would not work. So I still need to use a second remote to get full functionality out of this remote. The remote also turns itself off every 5 minutes... what does this mean? well imagine you are watching TV/movie/video and you want to do something else... so you grab this remote and hit a button but nothing happens.... then you hit the power button and you are knocked back to the home screen,,, now imagine this happening about 40 times a week.... I never use my remote... it's easier to just use the controller and my tv remote for the volume.
