    Pairing

    Works for the most part.

First off, I programmed the PDP PS4 media remote for an LG flat screen, the basic functions work. However there is an issue when switching between Inputs. The TV requests a password and switches to some maintenance menu, instead of switching HDMI input. I owne the PS3 media remote, and it too is paired with the same TV, no such issues ever. I couldn’t get the PDP remote to work with the PS3 Sound bar, again the PS3 Media remote still works on that one. Secondly, attempting to pair with the PS4, the instructions were slightly off, when scanning on the PS4 the blank device (no name) comes up, which turned out to be the PS4 media remote. Only after the pairing was complete, did the actual PDP name show up. Minor inconvenience. Now, when using the remote with the PS4 for viewing media, at first round it works fine, however, if the remote goes to sleep, when you wake it up, it switch the media back to the PS4 Home screen X-Bar, additionally, the X, Square, Circle and Triangle buttons no longer work, when the media remote wakes up. You have to restart the PS4 in order to get full control on the console. The remote works for the most part.

    poor product

I bought this remote recently,as i didn't want to use my regular ps4 controller as a blu ray remote. saw this at the store and bought it,figuring if the ps3 remote works,so should this one...boy was i wrong! besides it feeling cheap in my hands,i had difficulty pairing it with my ps4. i clearly read the instructions word for word, and nothing! it worked for a fleeting moment in the beginning, then when i went to turn on my system,it never showed up. after several attempts to pair the remote with my ps4,i just gave up. i will be returning this piece of garbage remote.do yourself a favor, and stay away from this faulty product. for the life of me,i can't understand why sony didn't make their own ps4 blu ray remote,or had the ps3 blu ray remote work on the ps4. they're both bluetooth!! it should work with any bluetooth device! PDP,you guys have a terrible product, time to go back to the drawing board, smh.

Great remote, but too many features

I bought this remote with the intention of using it for watching Netflix, movies, etc. the remote has many functions, but unfortunately is overly complicated in its setup and pairing instructions/process. Not sure if this was worth the money, but it's still better than using a Dualshock 4 to control playback settings.

Good to use when watching blue rays. Does not work that well as a universal remote, though,

Remote works great. Had the official PS3 remote for lasts gen. The new PS4 remote has a better quality feel to it. Also the remote is universal which will work other devices other than your PS4. Works most apps great. Just a few that wont respond to the remote like Crackle for example. Overall great remote.

Just got this, and it works great. I cannot stand using the game controller for movies, Netflix, etc. This should have come out a long time ago, but at least it's here now. Now, if we can only get a blue tooth headset like the PS3 one.....

Every review that mentions volume does automatically go to tv or amp didn't read the manual. Volume punch through works perfectly. Push and hold device (e.g. amp or tv) + mute. That make volume always activate that device. Works great with all my devices. Works perfect with bluray, Netflix, and hulu. Maybe there was a software update for that too. It does go to sleep after thirty minutes but it doesn't take that long to wake (just a couple seconds).

I bought this when I decided to try Playstation Vue. It works better than the controller for managing the TV, soundsystem, etc. The only problem I have is that I have to find workarounds for some of the Smart TV functions when I'm using it as a universal remote.

I wish it worked like a normal remote but you need to hold the ps button down to wake it up so that it works. This makes it feel a little sluggish to me but its still much better then using the game controller.

If you're thinking to get this for PS Vue,Don't!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this remote thinking it would be great addition for PS Vue . As I don't like to waste money by paying for dozens of tv channels which I don't watch ,the idea of getting service where you can just purchase the channels you want sounded like the angels finally answered my prayers. Thing is that PS Vue is great, don't get me wrong.I love it. But the hassle controlling it with dualshock is less exciting. Then I see this remote from PDP and licensed by Sony and I was like "great" ! Well not so quickly! The remote is not fully compatible with Vue at all! The buttons like channel, last etc the buttons which are essential for "cable wanna be ditcher" are not supported! Really Sony!? If you want it to be "cable killer" at least make remote to be used with it! I know some of geeks here be like " well you can program your tv's remote (if it's CEC compatible) to work with PS Vue" Not so much! I have the latest Samsung 60" and no luck. Also I can't imagine to have my 70-year old parents try to watch tv with their grandchild using 3 different remotes where one of them is dualshock!

Cheap Knock Off - NOT SONY

Compared to the CECH-ZRC1U for the PS3, this is a very poor device. The buttons are too small. The software functions don't work correctly in some apps (Hulu, etc). You have to press what device you want to control for each and every time. The old CECH-ZRC1U would control AMP volume without having to keep hitting the function each time. Being that this is not actually a Sony product, I can understand how there are quality issues. Hopefully, Sony will step forward in time and make their own remote, as they did with the PS3.

    Terrible, Terrible Battery Life

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This remote is pretty solid overall and I guess the best option available but it needlessly uses bluetooth which absolutely drains the batteries so fast. I've had the remote for about two months and I'm about to be on my third set of batteries, that's unacceptable. It either needs to be rechargeable like the controller or there needs to be an Infrared adapter to plug into the PS4. It's also annoying that the remote goes to sleep because of having blue tooth, it should just work.

Sony is always a good buy. I bought this for my second PS4 just to make it easier to maneuver the options like pause and play which a remote is better then a gamepad

Get a protection plan if you need this remote

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had the remote about 3 months before it stopped working. Yes, the remote will last longer than PS4 controller despite it communicates using bluetooth, but if you are an avid app user(Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo, etc) no doubt you will most likely be replacing batteries on this remote at least once a year. I would search for other options if there are any otherwise, if you are absolutely tired of having to switch controllers and charge them when your only using apps part of the time. I would say it it is worth the protection plan unless you want to spend 20 - 30 bucks again to buy the same remote. I can use Neflix and run the PSVue successfully really without jump through to many hoops, although it will take some experimenting to figure out which button to get to your DVR'd shows on PSVue. I do think they could have planned this remote out better or Sony could have decided to build it themselves instead of outsourcing to another manufacture .
