    CarPlay for our 2008 Odyssey!

We still love our 2008 Honda Odyssey, but were eager to update the electronics to include CarPlay. This Pioneer went on sale, so we jumped in. Integration was very simple and the features on this unit go on for days! Love having the backup camera on a nice big screen and HD Radio adds lots of new stations here in Nashville. The sound quality of the unit is awesome. It's gotten many compliments from my wife, who spends a lot of time behind the wheel. The startup is definitely slower than the non-smart factory unit, but not terrible. Maybe :15 sec? I used the auto-eq and level adjustment with a mic and it made some slight improvements. Sounded good already, so this wasn't a big change. The default EQ of "powerful" is actually really good. I tend to prefer flatter sound that is more natural, but this works really well. Of course CarPlay is great. Having used it in various rental cars, I was glad to have it at our fingertips for our holiday travel this year. Worked flawlessly. We still use lots of CDs from the library, so having an in-dash disc player was important. We are not using the DVD feature, so no comment there. I've definitely recommended this one to all my friends since we installed it. Big upgrade for older vehicles!

Overall Awesome Head Unit For The Price

I installed this in my 2009 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited to replace the factory radio. I also installed the iDatalink Maestro module to retain all of the factory original features and was required in order to control front to rear fade as I kept the factory Infinity amplifier. The Maestro also gives me an engine gauge screen on the new Pioneer, tire pressure, door status, battery voltage, and engine error code display/reset via the ODB connector. I also replaced all of the factory speakers. JBL Harman components in the front, JBL coaxials in sound bar, and a Pioneer low profile sub in the rear. Finally I also installed a backup camera which is displayed on the Pioneer screen. So far I love the Pioneer head unit. Amazing sound quality, great features. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Android Auto is really cool. Allows me to run Waze navigation and other apps like Pandora when my phone is plugged into the Pioneer USB port. My only complaints, thus the 4 stars: (1) Wish there were two USB ports, keep switching between USB thumb drive loaded with music files and my phone for navigation. (2) Control buttons on left side are rather small. Overall a great radio and great price! Was $450 but got it on sale for $299. TIP: The Metra dash install/trim kit I used has very soft/cheap plastic, cracks easily. I've read that Scosche makes a better quality one and will pursue that brand for future installs.

This does everything the way I would expect it to, and works well. The layout is pretty intuitive. So far has been very reliable. I have an android phone and the Android Auto feature works very well, much nicer than just using a phone holder! Bluetooth also rock solid and good range. Compared to the stock radio everything is louder and seems clearer, to be fair I didn't have a 3.5mm or bluetooth on the factory radio. Big difference though is the HD radio, definitely a better signal than what I was getting. The screen is visible most of the time. I say this because when the sun is shining and I have the sunroof open the screen gets really washed out, I can still read it though. I was completely unable to see the factory display in this condition so it's an improvement for me. My main complaint is that it does not have physical forward/back buttons. If you have steering wheel controls this isn't an issue. I do find that I have to take my eyes off the road for a split second sometimes to hit the on screen button. I'm not saying it is a deal breaker, but physical buttons that I could locate without looking would be an improvement. The backup camera is also working as it should which is great because I used to have no clue what was going on behind my car... Overall great radio and would recommend.

    Worth every penny!

I compared products from all different brands for 2 weeks and this was the one I decided to go with. This product works great for my 2015 JK Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. I replaced 4 of the speakers with JBLs and the tweeters and amp are Alpine and the quality of sound is perfect for my ears with this product. The best feature is the Apple CarPlay. You plug it in with your charger through an adapter and it will mirror your phone on the display. If you’re debating on a cheaper style, just know that Apple CarPlay is worth every penny, especially for the navigation feature. You can customize the screen, turn the display off when it’s not in CarPlay (I do this because the screen can be too bright sometimes but you still can listen to music while it’s off) and watch Dvds too. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the buttons on the front are too small. All the reviews I’ve read for Pioneer mention the small buttons, so it’s not a shock that I am too. Don’t let this be the deciding factor though, because you’ll get over the buttons being small. To adapt, I just pause the music if someone’s talking instead of trying to turn it down with the buttons. Also, there’s a microphone and remote that comes with it. I learned about the microphone after I got in my Jeep after BestBuy installed everything, because it’s just chilling on my dashboard now, but it can be placed elsewhere in different vehicles. One last thing, the price came out to $500 because you have to purchase the harnesses along with it at the store. I say this because I thought it all came together in the box.

So happy with this purchase! I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla and wanted a new receiver that I can get apple CarPlay. The sound when I have my iPhone connected is amazing and the quality is so much better! I had Best Buy install it and honestly I didn’t even look at the manual afterwards to figure something out, it’s pretty easy to navigate without looking it up.

    Worth the Upgrade

I upgraded my 2010 Toyota Camry with this unit and love all the new features. Apple Carplay and Android Auto run great with me and my wife's phone (10 max and Pixel 2XL). I did a self install. If you're going this route I recommend searching through YouTube for your vehicle and seeing if anyone else has performed a install on that type of vehicle. I also found out that OEM steering controls do not work if you just buy the receiver and install. You have to purchase an adapter for that. Self installs require knowledge of electrical wiring. If you know nothing about electrical wiring there's a vast amount of resources available on YouTube. I also recommend going to Crutchfield and purchasing a $10 receiver and speaker guide for your car. It helped me safely take out all my panels without breaking any plastic clips. You will have to do your homework the self install but it is very rewarding and fun learning the process. I do need to mention that I had to grind down my mounting kit from Metra to fit this receiver. Just something to keep in mind. You will have to adapt to certain situations and figure out on your own. Lastly, since I had everything apart I just installed front and rear 6x9 and added a backup cam. Was well worth it. Only con with this receiver is the auto dimmer does not work correctly. During the day visibility of the screen is not very good. It needs to be brighter. I might just need to set that manually, but haven't yet.

    Great Unit for the money

I bought this unit and had it installed by Best Buy in early November of 2021. Almost three months later and I have to say that it was money well spent. The touch screen is very responsive and the Android auto/apple carplay works like a charm. As soon as I plug my Android into my car's USB port, it automatically switches to the Android auto on the unit. The microphone that comes with it is a neat feature as well, although I find that it's not always that good at registering what I'm trying to say. I noticed that the volume settings are pretty customizable, as you can customize things like the bass. I also like how you can customize the background and background color of the unit, as well as the color of the buttons on the unit. There's actually a color slider that allows you to choose which specific color you want the buttons to be if you don't like any of the preset colors. In terms of cons, I recently encountered a bug where the Android auto wouldn't show up on the unit when I plugged in my phone, as the unit would just show a dark screen. I would shut off my car's engine and turn it back on and the android auto still wouldn't show up, as all I would see is the same dark screen. This only happened once though so far, and I've been able to use Android auto since then without that bug happening again, almost as if the issue somehow fixed itself. Hopefully, that was just a one time thing. The only other con I could think of is the fact that there's no volume knob, as the volume buttons are a little small. It would be a bigger issue for me if I didn't have the steering wheel controls hooked up to the unit. This was my first Pioneer but I'm very impressed with the system and the brand overall. I see why Pioneers are so commonly used in my area, and would 10/10 recommend this particular head unit.

Had it installed for two months so far and I couldn’t be happier with it. Functions perfectly. Im still using the stock speakers in my WRX, but this head unit completely changed the sound of them. Everything sounds so much better just with the controls this unit provides. Saw a lot of people saying you can’t see the screen in sunlight, and it is harder to see in direct sunlight, but that happens with any large glass display. Even in the sun I can still see what I need to see on it, it just isn’t as bright (because it’s fighting the sun). I’d recommend this to anyone. The customization is great, and the DVD player is a nice touch.

Just installed today. So far all is well. Looks great, all functions work properly including Android Auto with my Pixel 5. Installed 2011 Silverado LTZ with Crux interface, all factory functions retained. Did have some trouble with fitment with all the adapters needed. But all in all I'm happy. With the current vehicle market this is just what I needed to bring my truck to 2022 status, minus the rust of course.

this review is for the pioneer stereo (head unit) wiring harness and frame. The pioneer avh 5050 nex is a quality product. The sound is crisp ( but not noticeably better than my stock radio) my OEM radio CD changer broke, and I didn't have BT which was the nudge I needed to upgrade. The pioneer 5050 has android auto which in effect gives me a outstanding voice control google NAV and GPS, and access to the google suite. BB handle the free install and the unit fits and looks great. Switching between sources is quick and seamless, just about all functions can be controlled from the screen. I also own a 2012 lexus with NAV and in all honesty the pioneer voice controls work better. The entire upgrade cost about $750.00, IMO well worth the cost.

I had this stereo installed about three weeks ago and love it. It's easy to use, sounds great, and the features are awesome. I use Waze as my navigation system through Android Auto and have had no problems yet. The display looks nice on this unit. I've had no issues with glare. WebLink is very easy to use if you want to watch YouTube while the parking break is on. Phone calls are very clear, and text messages/DMs are easy to hear and respond to. Everything has been top notch so far. I'm more than pleased.

Amazing head unit that’s loaded with features! I have a 08 Trailblazer SS that was in serious need of an update when it came to audio and modern functionality. Got a harness and this head unit from Best Buy and honestly I love the performance. Was able to tune the crossfade, so that the factory speakers can play at the right levels. CarPlay makes the car like new, and the hands free functionality makes it a safe ride when responding back to texts while driving back with the baby. Would recommend!!

I have a 2013 F150 that I bought new and is in great shape, but now and then I get the itch for something newer, with some more bells and whistles. Adding this new stereo to replace the Gen 1 Sync and adding a reverse camera was exactly what I needed. The system simply sounds amazing and I no longer strain to back my truck into parking spaces. I am very pleased and now have a new (to me) truck!

Used this deck to add android auto/apple car play to my 2009 toyota camry xle. It's a great deck for adding modern navigation and smartphone control to an older car! It also has the capability to retain steering wheel control inputs (hardware sold separately and varies depending on vehicle) The only downside is that when adding a backup camera, there are no setting to permanently "set" the parking lines in place. If you want the backup lines to come up, you have to tap the screen every time the backup camera turns on

Very happy with this stereo. I chose this radio for a few different reasons. First, I really enjoy that 2 phones can be connected at the same time. I have a work cell phone and a personal cell phone I keep on me almost all the time, and it is very convenient that both can be connected at the same time in case I get a call on either while driving. Second, I love that I can customize the home screen app layout, background images, and color scheme. I was able to accurately match the same colors as the rest of the lit-up components on my dash, so the stereo gives off the impression that it's OEM. Lastly, I installed 4 Pioneer A-series speakers before I had this head unit installed (2-6.5" in front doors, 2-6x9s in the back). I would have to turn the volume all the way up on the factory stereo before the speaker would start to bump, but with this head unit, the car is rattling at only 1/3 of maximum volume. This is almost entirely due to the increased power this stereo puts out compared to the factory one, but it also has to do with all the different audio settings available on this head unit. I can individually increase volume levels on each speaker relative to each other, customize the EQ settings, and add a bass boost that nearly turns my 6x9s into subs. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. I did a lot of research beforehand, and decided that this was the best stereo for me. I don't care about the size of the buttons, and if it really bothers you, just use the remote that comes with it (duuuhhh, smh). PS. android auto works for me, weblink works for me, and if it doesn't work for you, it is likely because the cable you're using sucks. Try getting a higher grade cable, that's what worked for me.

Installed this into my 2009 CRV. It was easy to install with the proper harness. I removed the lighter type power socket in the lower dash tree and installed a dual USB connection. One for CarPlay connected to the Pioneer and the other for charging. I also installed a back up camera into the car. My better half is very happy to have CarPlay and the use of Waze in her car.

Nice upgrade for anyone looking for better sound, phone integration and ease of use. Nice crossover settings to dial in the sound bellow the physical ones. Nice phone / iPad integration and car play. Added cameras and steering wheel controls work perfectly. The buttons are small so I’d recommend keeping the steering wheel conctrols. Slow boot and sometimes (rarely) drops car play despite physical connection but that’s minor….

Upgraded 2013 Tucson audio to pioneer avh-2550nex. Sound quality so much better than oem radio with oem speakers. Easy to install, added rear view camera, parking brake bypass and idatalink maestro Sw for steering wheel control. Now I have navigation thru Android Auto/Apple Car Play using Waze. also removed original usb and audio port replaced with mic and pioneer usb cord. Very happy how everything works except can not use voice steering control on android phone but works on apple phone on radio but voice works on both phones in android auto and Car play.
