Hey all, mine stopped working the same day, while riding my recumbent bike it stopped responding and the headset reversed motion then shut down and sadly never to restart ever again. It was returned for a refund and I won’t purchase again until they fix it. I do not recommend purchasing until Meta fixes the problem.

It’s cool but gives me a constant headache and hurts my eyes it’s somehow more fun using my friends than just having my own and the games are to expensive I would use it if your lazy and want some lame form of exercise

Hi there DERisio, thanks for making us aware of this.
The reason the serial number doesn't match will be because the serial number on the receipt will be for the box itself rather than the headset.
Each component in the box will also have their own unique serial number, the reason being in case of one component needing replaced rather than the whole kit.
So if you still have the box we would recommend taking that with you so that they honor the replacement.
If you are still running into issues please don't hesitate to get in touch with the Meta Quest Support Team via the Meta Quest Help Center, we will be more than happy to help get this sorted out for you!

Headsets cooling fan went out after an hour of use and overheats. Headset is no longer usable. I bought this to bring on a deployment for work. Because of this I cant get it fixed or get my money back as im already deployed. Anyone who buys one of these please double check it to make sure the headset is working properly.

Didn't even get as far as turning it on. The fitting mechanism is atrocious. To charge $500 for this is an absolute joke. I'd be embarrassed if I worked at Meta and put this out thinking this is the best we could do. Getting returned tomorrow. Wow, wow. If people accept this, they're being fleeced.

Made the leap from wired PCVR and loving it!

Last generation, when it was a choice between wired PCVR and wireless standalone VR, I went with wired. I was curious to know how far things have come since then. The second I turned on the Quest 3 and strapped it to my face, I knew that this was a whole new level.
The first thing you see when you turn on the Quest 3 is the actual world around you in full color. The AR experience is incredible, being able to open up menus and browser windows and place them wherever. Last gen, the pass-through was limited to black and white, and only there as a fail-safe to keep you from bumping into things. While wearing the Quest 3, the passthrough was so good that I was regularly checking my phone, amazed at being able to read the text on the screen, even if it was a little wobbly and rainbow shimmery.
I grabbed a highly rated table tennis game off of the store, and after a quick install I was holding a ping pong racket and relearning how to navigate in this virtual space. The physics were pretty incredible, and the hand tracking didn't skip a beat. I saw in the screenshots that there was an AR mode, so I turned that on and turned my dining table into a full sized ping pong table. That got a little too weird, and my daughter sitting at the table kept distracting me, so I went back into living room and the virtual world and practiced serving, since the game enforces actual rules like keeping the ball behind the table and hitting it on the descent after tossing at least 16cm. It took me a while to get the timing right, but once I did, everything felt real, down to the slight impact of the ball thanks to the rumble motors in the controllers. When my daughter asked to have a turn, I was about to set the controllers on the nonexistent table until the "this not reality" warning bells went off.
I plugged my gaming PC into a wifi 7 router that I have designated strictly for communication between it and my Quest 3. and set up Meta Link, which basically thrusts you into the older "Home" environment of last generation, but allows access to the PC. The clarity and sharpness of the screen was so good that I had no problem reading text in web browsers, word processing documents, and spreadsheets. I was even able to play a few PC games that I had installed that support VR without any perceptible lag. This is everything that I wanted out of VR, and surpasses even the lofty ambitions I had, which were originally set back when I was a kid watching Lawnmower Man on cable over and over again.
The onboard speakers work well to immerse you, and anyone else around you, in your virtual surroundings. There is also a headphone jack, so you can plug in your favorite headphones and enjoy some privacy without disturbing anyone. Bluetooth is also an option.
That being said, the included strap was finicky and puts all the weight at the front of the face. The facial interface (the liner between the actual housing that holds the electronics and your face) is also coarsely textured, presumably to prevent slipping, but with the unintended effect of being slightly abrasive especially to sensitive skin. The strap is upgradable, and the facial interface is removable, which also allows better vision of your surroundings for AR usage, at the cost of immersion. I also wish that there was some sort of bumper around the lenses included to keep my eyeglasses from potentially scratching them.
At the new price point, and without requiring a beefy gaming PC, the Quest 3 is a remarkable product. The out of the box experience is very beginner friendly, especially as it places you in AR first to help get you used to moving around with basically a bucket on your head. And if you do happen to have a PC and a newer Wifi router to hardwire it to, well, the wireless PCVR dream is now and I’m here for it. I've especially enjoyed watching movies from my PC in a virtual private movie theater with a 20' screen while also sitting on my living room sofa instead of my PC chair. While I wish that the battery lasted longer, the experience that gets packed into such a tiny device is incredible.

Super Impressive with a wireless VR Headset

My previous VR headset is an HTC Vive Cosmos and while it's been discontinued, it was a decent headset because it didn't require Light Towers. However, it did require a physical connection to my computer for processing power. While there were wireless adapters, I couldn't make the investment at the time. Fast forward a few years later and the Meta Quest 3 steps up the game with higher resolution, better ergonomics and independent processing power.
Like the HTC Vive Cosmos, the Meta Quest 3 uses SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) tracking. It uses the headset's built-in cameras to map the surrounding environment and track its own position within that space.
Since the Quest series has entered the market, it has dominated and I believe I heard that it has 95% of the VR market share. And for good reason. Despite being a wireless device which means all the processing power and battery capacity are on board the Quest 3 headset, it's still about 100 grams lighter than the HTC Vive Cosmos. That's impressive. The Quest 3 has great resolution, decent battery life, and the focus adjustment stays solid whereas the Cosmos I had to adjust every so often. Plus Meta continues to grow their already vast media, game and application library.
In the box, you don't get much the headset is set up with no assembly required. The controllers have a pull tab on each to enable the battery. The controllers each have a triangular button that you press to unlock the battery door and each controller is powered by a single AA battery.
The headset has a velcro release to adjust the viewing height while straps in the back are adjusted to help you keep the visor to your eyes. On the left side there is a USB-C port that is used to charge the Meta Quest 3. A USB-C cable is included as well as a wall adapter that is capable of 18 Watts. The power button sits just below the USB-C port. Underneath there is a dial for moving the lenses, wireless charging contacts, and a volume rocker button. On the right side, there is an audio jack port. Inside the lens area, there is a button on either side for depth adjustment.
Like some of the modern smart sunglasses, there are speakers built into the temples and are rear firing so they are aimed towards your ears.
After setting up the Meta Quest, I set up Meta Quest Link on my desktop and was super impressed with the way I could operate my PC in the Quest 3 as a Virtual Desktop. I could watch movies, operate my PC, browse the web, all in my Quest 3 and set it up with large monitors. It was great.
I was also able to transfer movies to the storage of the Quest 3 and then pull it up as a movie file and depending on the application, it can make it look like you're in a theater watching the movie. I also downloaded some sample 3D environments like a cavern looking out into a forest and it was quite impressive. I also viewed a free documentary/immersive experience about rebuilding Notre Dame.
While all that was happening, I was downloading Batman: Arkham Shadow. I've played about a half hour of the game and I'm truly impressed. The graphics are great. The interaction is well thought out. It really demonstrates the capabilities of the Meta Quest 3. I can't wait to get back into the game.
However, there is a bit of a downside with a fully immersive game. Most of the interaction with the Quest 3 is in a Mixed Reality setting. You see your real life environment through the built in cameras and the resolution isn't crystal clear. But at least my brain can match up my movements to what I'm seeing through the Quest 3 cameras. However, when in a game like Batman: Arkham Shadow, I cannot reconcile my movements (or lack thereof) to the movements with the game. So I get a little bit of simulator sickness after 30 minutes or so.
Overall, I'm really enjoying this VR generational jump from the HTC Vive Cosmos to the Meta Quest 3. I'm looking forward to getting some of the popular games like Beat Saber and possibly Star Wars: Vader Immortal.

I’m somewhat new to VR, but have used the Quest 2 for around 15-20 hours so I can give a little perspective as a newbie and a novice who can compare the two devices. I will say that the Quest 3 is very impressive and I have enjoyed my time using both the Quest 2 and Quest 3, and that the latter is a great upgrade.
Setting up the Quest 3 was easy and didn’t take very long to get going. I did have an issue when trying to connect to Wifi when choosing the option to connect with a QR code on my phone. I created the QR code but the Quest 3 could not read it, so I had to enter the info manually. No big deal, but I figure the setup would be quick and seamless since it’s been out for years. Other than that, the setup was smooth and I had already purchased some games in advance that were populated in my library. Some big advantages of the Quest 3 over the prior model is the color passthrough, looks so much better and you can do things in the real world much easier with the headset still on! Also makes the mixed reality apps much more realistic. The Quest 3 can automatically draw your boundaries for you, just be looking around. Very nice perk! While I’ve been using the Quest 3 for a few days, I have friends who also own both versions and they tell me motion sickness seems to be much better on 3 as well.
Battery life is decent but I would recommend a new headstrap as the one that comes with it isn’t very supportive. I like to get the ones with a swappable battery option built into a headset that provides both comfort and extended usage, especially since an addictive game will go by quicker than you think. The built-in battery gets you about 2-3 hours of usage, so having a spare on the headset is very helpful. Speaking of, the Quest 3 comes with the Batman game at the time of this writing which is actually an impressive game. The graphics look good and the game play is fun, not to mention a decent workout fighting villains! After my buddy played it for one evening, he decided he wanted to go buy the Quest 3 as well which speaks for itself on the game. So now we have the option to play multiplayer and co-op games together, but sadly Batman doesn’t have that option.
Casting the screen to the TV is a nice feature for those around you so they can see what your wild swings and movements are all about. I have noticed some weirdness with the casting on my headset such as some instability like shaking or distorted picture briefly, but it goes away. Make sure you have the right type of streaming device to cast to, I used my Nvidia Shield and it works well. I also connected the headset to my PC which is a very cool option. I am able to look at my computer monitors but they are like room-size monitors which looks awesome. I have yet to test out any advanced features such as using mouse or keyboard or other mixed reality productivity apps, but the features that are built-in are pretty solid. I’ve connected to my PC both Wirelessly and with the wired USB cable. Both options worked well and were fairly easy, just make sure you have the proper software on your PC and you should be good to go.
Overall, I love the Quest 3 and its upgrades. I also recommend getting the larger 512GB as my buddy has the 128GB and is already maxed out and regrets not getting the larger size. I’m also at around the 120GB of used storage space after only a few days and I feel like I haven’t even put that many apps on here. Its good for all ages….everyone around seems to want to play it too, so it makes for a nice entertainment option if you have family living with you or visiting. Its also a great way to connect with friends you don’t see often. For instance, I have friends that live out of state and we sit at a virtual table together and play poker. I think this product is great and looking forward to exploring all the productivity ways I can take advantage of it.
