Don't purchase for your 10+ kid

Don't buy a MetaQuest for your kids if you actually want them to have a game they can use. They are unable to use gift cards, have money gifted to them or share purchasing power. Then as a parent you can gift a game but not add-on bundles and are forced to spend 100% more for a purchase. Customer support is utterly useless. The "free game" that comes with it is not avaialble for minors to use/purchase, even with parental approval. They have removed all ability for parents to actually have a choice in what their kids use - they can only approve what META says they can approve.

      Hey Mark,

If you want to get super immersed in the Metaverse there are some great experiences and games you could try out such as Theatre Elsewhere and First encounters are easy to hop in and out of for a quick game.

Thank you for the review and we hope you can find some fun adventures in the Metaverse! oculus

I was very excited to pick this up today and had high expectations for it as I previouly owned the Quest 2. First, the passthrough is terribly blurry, I had a headache within the first 5 minutes of using it. The passthrough clarity is definitely NOT as advertised especially playing in mixed reality. Second, I only noticed a minimal bump in graphics resolution, again not as advertised. Last but not least, customer service is nonexistent which is a shame for something in this price range.

This is getting one star strictly because of Best Buy's horrendous customer service on the phone and in the store there's 4000 staff and you have to drag one to help you

The Quest 3 is absolutely amazing: if you get a solid unit. My first headet had white dots in the screen, my second unit had a nosepiece on the facial interface that came loose during use all the time, and my third unit has what appears to be a hair or dust under the screen. My other VR headsets don't have this issue (PSVR 1and 2, Quest 2). Meta's customer support tried to troubleshoot, but the stress of having disfunctional units is not allowing me to continue trying out the Quest 3 for now.

Great wireless VR and wonderful passthrough

I have used VR headset for few years now, some early phone based one, PC VR with Rift S, followed by Quest 2 some months back. Quest 3 no doubt is superior with the newer pancake lenses, higher resolution and a lot more processing power than the Quest 2. BUT the best thing I liked in Quest 3 over others is the wonderful passthrough mode. I can finally walk around the house wearing the headset, if say I need to go look at my kid or go to kitchen to get a glass of water or most other things. The VR headset can now be worn for a longer duration. The supplied headband is not great, same as Quest 2, so you have to either order the elite from Meta or a third party one. With aftermarket headband, the device is comfortable, definitely feels lighter vs Quest 2. The OS interface is same between devices and Quest 3 looks just a tad sharper, in fact in most of the games with 2d texture I did not notice much sharpness despite the higher resolution. Higher refresh rate does makes it feel a lot smoother so a really welcome addition. Hand tracking worked decently but after being used to of the controller for a lot of time, I just go back to them the moment I put the headset on. The games I play are mostly sports/arcade type and all worked decently, from Pistol Whip, Synth Rider to Cricket, Tennis. Perhaps I ought to use the Oculus optimizer to get the more juice out of it. I would have really liked if Quest 2 official accessories like the Elite head strap and the official case work with Quest 3, unfortunately that is not the case. Except this one thing, I am pretty happy with the new device and the improvement. Quest 3 is a much-needed improvement in VR head set and I just wish that Meta will produce more 1st party games for this device.

This Quest 3 is barely any better then the 2. PLus we've spent another $100 for accessories that were a must IMO but still those upgrades have issues too. I feel like this was a money grap by facebook/meta to recoup $$$ they lost in settlements. Even the passthrough feature upgrade is way over hyped and under whelming. Stick with the Quest 2 and save youself $600, this one isn't worth it.
