Cost not much more than new controllers

After seeing the cost of the controllers it made more sense just to upgrade the whole headset for a few dollares more. Nice upgrade over the 2. Like that you're able to see your surroundings with the headset on.

We are happy that your son is enjoying his new device, especially with all the upgrades that it comes with.
Not only is the Passthrough in full color, the headset is a lot more powerful and much more adjustable, making this headset more suitable for a wider range of people making it great for the whole family and by the sounds you it, you have already been enjoying it yourself.
The new controllers are also better, but if you would like to get some extra protection then you should definitely look into getting some Meta Quest active straps, these are compatible with both the Quest 3 and 3s

From the moment he put it on, he was hooked. The immersive experience, kid-friendly games, and intuitive controls make it perfect for his age. It’s been amazing to see how much he enjoys exploring virtual worlds, solving puzzles, and even getting a little exercise—all while having a blast. The headset is lightweight, easy to set up, and surprisingly durable for how often he uses it. We also love how Meta includes great parental controls, which give us peace of mind while he’s playing. One important tip: get the extended warranty.

It’s such a great headset and you can tell it’s an upgrade from the quest 2. I got the S because I don’t care much for the augmented reality stuff

The graphics have come so far on the quest 3 and the games are great. You can do just about anything with The Quest 3 from home. Concerts, sporting events, social virtual bars, and anything and everything in between!

Worth it fs

It's a replacement for my Oculus Go which was a great stand alone VR. I'm disappointed that I can't use my headset with it, but I was able to buy inexpensive Bluetooth earbuds that are working well. I can't wait to use it everyday. I'm not a game player, so for me the price is right. I'm getting the new features with my Meta Quest 3S, that are included with the Meta Quest higher price VRs.

I use it to preview large-scale designs in real-world spaces before I start painting, which saves me time and helps clients visualize the final result. For kids under 18 recommend setup parental account to control time spend and content. VR itself has really cool graphics has got lot better than my Google VR with phone. I have not played on whole lot as it was not for me. But really good tech for $300.
