Rand Mcnally made one of the best navigation systems out there when they introduced the Overdryve 7 I have have built in systems that wouldn't compare with it. The only thing that I have it grip about is no manual, and this system does everything. I called Rand McNally for help and gave them my feed back about this and they told me they did that on purpose so people would call that having someone explain this with whatever you would want help with. There is so many functions on this unit that you might need help with They are very helpful and are still on a learning curve themselves they are open 24 X 7 so if you need help they are always there including holidays and weekends

The GPS works great. Once I had my preferred settings I was very happy with it's performance and clarity of the road and optional info such as restaurants and gas stations. The only draw back for me is the mount. It is not user friendly. I had to really work at positioning it in a way that was easy to see but not hindering my view on any way. Other than that great asset for someone like me with no sense of direction.

We where one of the first installed / purchased. Unit works but a lot of setup / sync with phone and etc. ignored by tech and not fully set up. (Dodge Charger Persuit) RETURNED it. when the tech will finish installing and setting up the whole unit I may think about Repurchasing it.

I like it but I would to have included live traffic data without wifi connection requirement. Also, slow starup, akes about 1 minute to boot up. I would also like to have an option to turn on dash cam to start up.

I like this a lot better than I thought that I would. The short review for those in a hurry, setup was easy, it connected easily, the NAV is spot on accurate and the big screen makes everything easy to do. In more detail, I read somewhere of the Overdryve that it can turn your dumb car into a smart one. I'd say that's very accurate. Connecting to the Overdryve by Bluetooth from your phone is simple. If you've done it anywhere before, you can do it here. Setup and playing music through the FM transmitter was super simple. It tells you which channel to tune to, you tune to it, open your app and start playing music. I like that you can swipe left and right to skip tracks. Nice little touch while driving. The best part of this system is the size of the screen. I could never get a car mount that I liked and have my phone in an orientation that made navigating the best, even though I have a large phone. The screen size is definitely an asset here. It's also very clear and due to the size, you can fit a lot of the options on it while not covering the map too much while navigating. Speaking of options, I wouldn't even try to tell you all of them. But there are many to customize the NAV (Voice, day/night mode, etc.). The prompts are perfectly timed, and even then there's an option to change how far away you get each of the 3 prompts. Most important is the accuracy of a a navigation, and so far this thing beats Google Maps and Waze, my two preferred navigation apps (Google Maps for directions, Wave for navigating. Don't judge.). Along with places I don't know, I tested is by putting in the grocery store down the street. It actually took me to an entrance that I didn't know was there that leads right to the front of the place and is way better than the way I would usually go or Waze would take me. Also, Google Maps and Waze have never had my home at the right place on the map. The neighborhood is a large oval that has homes and townhouses lining both sides. Google maps and Waze both place my address on the top middle of the circle. We're on the bottom right. The first thing that I did with the NAV here is put in my address and it was spot on. I've stopped using the others and this is my NAV now. It also has live traffic and gas prices if you connect through a hotspot on your phone, but there are restaurants and other things programmed in that you don't need a hotspot for. Plus, if you're short on data, the NAV will not use any. The magnets on the smart mount are strong and hold it in place. But I must highly recommend the bean bag dash mount. The smart mount connects onto it, and then you just set it where you want on the dashboard. I had doubts that it wouldn't move, and that thing has stayed still even when I got cut off and had to hit the brakes and swerve. Plus, since it's not connected you can easily pick the whole thing up and take it to another car and plug it in, place it on the dash and you're on your way. The last thing that I'll mention is the speed of the Overdryve. Typing inputs are instant and suggestions load very fast in the NAV. Overall, if you have a "Dumb" car then this could be a great fit. I would recommend it, and the bean bag dash mount.

I got it to replace a dash camera, GPS and having my cell phone connected all the time. I had one problem with the power base but it was replaced with no questions by Geek Squad. Being Android it obviously is a GPS, but it also plays music, from google or you can add your own media. It also with the addition of a device connect to your car to do diagnostics. Note vehicles before 2008 are not compatible with the gas tank levels. I like it because it leaves me only one thing on my dash. If you have a jeep like i do the disk does not stick to the narrow dash. I actually used Gorilla Super Glue to hold it in place. Works great as a tablet when not attached to the car. The Trip Planner is easy to use and the maps are upgradeable for life. That in its self is a great savings per some of the products out there.

For a dedicated GPS, this one does a lot right

In a time when everyone has a GPS in their pocket at all times, I haven't really considered a dedicated GPS unit to be very useful. If you are in the market for a dedicated unit, though, this is the one. The thing I'm most happy about with this unit is how much it integrates with your existing phone and car stereo. You have a couple of options for connecting to your car stereo. There is an external antenna that lets you connect, wirelessly, to an FM radio station. Or you can connect the (included) passthrough cable to your aux port. You can also just use the build in speaker if you'd rather just listen to your car's radio while still being able to hear the GPS voice prompts. The best reason to connect the GPS to your car stereo is that you can then connect your phone (via bluetooth) to the Over Dryve which let's you play any audio from your phone over your car speakers (while also still being able to hear the GPS voice over your car stereo as well) and you can even use whichever voice assistant your phone has right from the screen. You can have your text messages read back to your as well as respond to them. I think, if you own an Android phone, you have a couple of extra syncing options. I'm using an iPhone so I can't attest to that. Overall, the connection options are very nice and allow you to use some functions of your phone straight from the larger, more safely available screen of the Over Dryve. The only issue I experienced with the stereo connection was when it was connected to my AUX port and there was no audio coming from the unit, there was a buzzing sound. Not an issue when playing music or such but if you connect it to your stereo and don't intend on listening to anything, it might bother you. It could also just be an issue with my stereo. Speaking of the screen, it's a very nice size. The entire unit is attached to the "dock" (which would probably stay attached to your windshield) via a pretty strong magnet. As long as you don't have the unit upside down (a mistake I made a couple of times) it connects to the docking unit very quickly and easily. It also makes it super easy to detach to bring with you. All of the wires also connect to the dock so if you leave everything connected in your car, you don't have to do anything but slap the actual unit up on the dock when you want to use it. The other nice feature, I haven't tested very much but I really like it. This device has a built in dash cam. It doesn't look like it can be set to always record, but it's easy enough to access so you can probably just start up a recording any time you connect the GPS pretty easily. The camera quality looks pretty decent. I'm not certain how long it will record for, though. So my final judgement on this is if you drive a lot (I do not), you will probably really enjoy this unit. I'm taking a couple of long distance trips by the end of the year and I intend on using this GPS for my navigation, entertainment and dash-camming needs. My phone's battery will appreciate not needing to run the screen through all of the hours I'll be driving on these trips. If you don't drive much and already have a bluetooth connection to your phone in your car, this specific unit is probably a little bit overkill for you.

I have been testing this product for a little over a month now, and finally had the chance to take it on a long trip this past weekend. The good: • The screen is gorgeous. It's easy to read and has a bright, crisp display. • The GPS has some innovative features such as showing you a display of the signs at interstate exits and giving an example of what the exit looks like. I had not seen this on a GPS before and found it to be very handy. • I LOVE the “exit” feature on the GPS—it is extremely handy to get a list of restaurants at upcoming road exits (and it will list every exit on your trip). We were able to plan meals on this trip very easily by finding a place we wanted to eat at an upcoming exit and adding it as a “via” point. This is a fantastic feature when traveling with adults, but it’s a must when traveling with children. Being able to tell my kids exactly where we were eating and exactly how long it would take to get there kept the “I’m hungry! How much longer?” cries to a minimum. • The mount is much, much sturdier than it appears, and does a solid job holding the unit in place, even on bumpy roads. I tried both the dashboard and window mount and found the window mount to be very secure. It’s a large display, but centering it above my dashboard just below the rear view mirror worked perfectly for me. • The front dash cam does a very good job, and can seemingly record for quite a bit of time (there is 32gb of storage on board, and most of that space is for recording). With the number of distracted drivers out there I’d been considering a dash cam anyway and this fits the bill as well as any, and it's nice that it's rolled into one device. • The sound is good, and I was able to connect it to my phone without too much of an issue. (see below for more about the phone connectivity) The not so good: • The price. This is a lot of money for a device like this. When you consider you’ll likely want to add a dongle for the car monitoring ability, a rear-view camera (and installation) and the app you can easily push over $600 to get the most out of this device. • The manual is not very much help for such a complicated machine. I’m pretty tech-savvy so I was able to work out how to use most everything, but my wife was very frustrated trying to figure some of it out • The connections were of almost no help to me. This is almost more of a limitation of my car, but even with a higher-end stereo there is no front aux jack, so I was forced to use the FM transmitter. It worked fine, and is great when you’re in one place for an extended period of time, but it constantly needed to be adjusted on our road trip as local stations faded in and out. • The GPS search function was not very helpful when searching for a specific address. I attempted to use it first for every address I was going to, but ended up switching to “classic” entry every time. It did work fine when conducting a search such as "Target" but it's a bit of a chore to have to switch back and forth. • I believe I had everything connected correctly, but I had a difficult time with keeping the battery charged. We kept it connected the entire time so this wasn’t too big a deal, but it will not keep the current route if it shuts down due to the battery running out. • It works as well as any other voice activated device, which is “meh”. Any voice activated device like this can be a chore to set up anyway, and this one seemed to have difficulty recognizing voice commands—possibly due to the distance I had to place it from the driver’s seat. I didn’t use it much since I usually had my kids in the car, and would have to yell the command which it still wouldn’t recognize since at least one of my kids would be yelling too. Your mileage may vary: • The phone feature worked fine, though I didn’t keep my phone connected as both my cars already have this feature. If you have an older car you will likely love it. Having texts read to you is extremely convenient as well (though the pronunciations of the phonetic speaker can be a bit hard to understand sometimes) • The “entertainment” functioned fine as well, but uses your phone’s data. It doesn’t use much for streaming radio (such as Pandora) but do be aware it will add to your phone bill if your plan doesn’t cover this. Overall this is a well-made first-generation device. For an “out of the gate” system like this it has the quirks you’d expect, but a great deal of functionality. It’s a device intended to fit certain situations, so those with cars from the last year or two may find that the functionality of this is redundant to many of their current car and phone features. If you have an older car, phone or any combination of the two, or a low end factory stereo you’ll get the most out of this…just be prepared to spend a bit more on top of it to get the absolute most out of it. (note: I am putting "I would recommend this"...and I would, but it would honestly depend on the situation)

Navigation map is so much smarter than Garmin and others. Don't have to type in Zipcode, City, State, just type as you do on smartphone. Dashboard camera is a plus. Backup camera kind of slow to pickup signal, doesn't have distinct "Red" "Green" or "Red" zone when you backup. Music is from microSD great, also from smartphones, I tried windows, iphone, android phone, and external bluetooth speaker - music play fine, except from windows phone. Smarter than regular system built in car - without CarMode. Quite many features required internet such as youtube or apk, etc. Overall, happy with the purchased.

I read many reviews and really wanted this to work. Big screen and responsive, but mount for me was game breaker. Couldn't get it in to mount on dash and not block my view. Then tried to mount on winshield and it stuck out to far. Also didn't like that your phone has to be connected in order to get traffic and do searches. I did return and got a different gps.

I wonder how I got along without this device now. After buying the iPhone 7 without the audio plugin I started looking at upgrading the audio system in the Jeep Cherokee. After pricing various systems with GPS and other features I was looking for I cam across this. I use it on every trip now, the bluetooth connection works great and one of the selling points was the fact that it is portable and can be moved from vehicle to vehicle. The GPS has been accurate and reliable, I rarely use it in the battery mode as it comes with a car charger.
