I think the concept of these is really awesome but the technology isn't there yet to make them worth the price point.

Classic Ray-Bans That Do So Much More

Normally when I look for tech, it is because I have a specific need for it. For example, I need a printer, so I look at available printers. In this case, I can’t really say I needed sunglasses that can take video and pictures, but the Ray-Ban Stories Wayfarer Smart Glasses are really cool. In time I will see if they become necessary tech for me that I use all the time, but I will point out the features and you can decide for yourself. Once you get the glasses, there is some setup required before you can start using them. You will need to download the companion app to your smartphone and go through initial start up steps. You need to pair the glasses and can set up voice commands if you like. Also, you may need to charge the glasses. Once all that is set up though you are good to go. The quality of pictures produced with the glasses is good. You simply look at your target and click a button on the glasses, and the picture appears on your phone. Video is just as easy. You hold the button down to get started, and the filming begins. The video is good. You don’t have to sit there holding a smartphone steady while taking the video, but it is limited to 30 seconds. I really wish this went longer. It would be great for filming my son at a baseball game or my daughter performing at school. But 30 seconds is rarely enough to capture everything. I will say a word of caution with the glasses. There is a warning on the app to make sure you only film people when they are aware they are being filmed. There is a small indicator light which should show that video is being taken. However, I am not sure everyone being filmed will see this. There may be some unintended uses with this product. So be aware if you get this as a gift for someone. Another cool feature with the glasses is that they have built in speakers. Just select your favorite audio track and hit play. You will be able to hear the music through the glasses. Volume controls are even integrated into the sides as well. You can also take phone calls straight from the glasses. They really do everything. When fully charged, you can be on the go for about 3 to 4 hours. The case holds some additional charge time as well so it in not like it must be plugged up constantly. You will need a Facebook account as well to use the glasses. This shouldn’t be a big deal to most as even other things like the Oculus 2 have the same requirement. I am still not sure if this is a must have. My smartphone does many of the same things by itself. I just feel though that these glasses might do it a little bit better. So, if you are tech driven, the Ray-Ban Story Wayfarer Smart Glasses may be for you. I am not sure it will revolutionize the industry. I see it more for a niche clientele, but they will love it.

The glasses are high in price, but this is new tech. They feel good, looks good, work good. Taking video on the go is cool, and being able to post directly is so nice. Photo quality is good, videos are good. The only thing I see is price that might scare some people, but if you love tech you'll check these out. I mean, just look how much people like them.

These are definitely the quality you come to expect from Ray-Ban and the features are great. Would like if it was a little more user friendly and the charge lasted a little longer. The calls are crisp and clear, the picture quality is great, but would like a video display in the glasses.

    Stylish and Fun

The Wayfarer smart glasses are a neat a fun piece of tech for anyone who likes to take lots of photos and enjoys social media. They're the classic stylish look you're accustomed to from Ray-Ban with a lot of tech packed into the frame. The over ear speakers that present virtually no noise to anyone not wearing the glasses are incredible. Touch controls for music playback built into the frame also amazing. Pictures and videos recorded are clear and easily shared either privately or to social media through the required Facebook View app. I especially like that there is an external LED that lights up during recording or when a picture is taken as an indicator to anyone around to address potential privacy concerns. As far as drawbacks, most are minor. I'd have preferred to use my existing Google assistant (or Siri or Alexa or whatever your preference) rather than having to set up a Facebook assistant for voice commands. I will admit the commands do operate very smoothly even if cross interaction with existing assistants sometimes happens. I also feel as though the button presses for video/picture are backwards. You press to start/stop recording and hold down for quick pictures and it feels more natural the other way around. Those were the only complaints I had and they don't really detract from an otherwise stellar product.

Great Looks, Limited Use, Could Be Better

I’ve had three pairs of Ray Ban’s over the past 30+ years. These do not feel like the quality Ray Ban’s I know, more like a knock-off you’d buy on a New Your street corner. The plastic hinges do not feel like the standard Ray Ban glasses which have metal hinges. The parting lines on the temples (the side legs) where the sides come together stick out too much and very noticeable. The case is very nice and felt lines, though too large to comfortably carry with you unless you have a large purse. The integration of the charger in the case is clever, just fold and lay the glasses in the case and the contacts line up perfectly. No careful placement, fiddling or extra thought needed. The case also has its own integrated battery so you can charge the glasses with it on the go with no need to plug in. Fortunately, the case and charging work well as you will be charging the glasses allot if you use these to shoot videos often. With heavy photo and video use, the battery lasts a scant 30-40 minutes. I was expecting more from the video with it being a key feature. But the video feels more gimmicky than useful. The video quality is not great, especially if there is allot movement, like at a sporting event. The camera is just 5MP, most phones are at least double or triple that. Videos are captured in a square format only; wide screen format is not an option. The 4GB on memory in the glasses will hold 15 minutes of video, but not all at once. The video clips are limited to 30 seconds each, 30 x 30 second captures. This is too short for You Tube, or a Point of View videos useful for training or other reasons. The still pictures look better and the glasses will store about 500 pictures. The sound is not as good as other glasses that lack the cameral and focus on sound quality like the Bose frames. The sound is thin, with noticeably distorted bass and not very loud. It’s similar to listening to music over a phone call. Its not enjoyable, music must not have been high on the priority list. They work well for phone calls. Voice commands work when the glasses can hear you. But I have had to almost yell “Hey Facebook” for it to hear it me if there was any background noise or a breezy day. These are a neat gadget, fun to play with, and with timeless Wayfarer styling. If your looking to post personal photos and videos to Facebook while on the go, the photo and video quality are fine for that. But I feel it’s a pretty expensive item with mediocre specs targeted to just one platform.

Interesting Technology Wrapped in Stylish Ray-Bans

I spent a big part of the late 1980s and early 1990’s wearing Ray-Ban Wayfarers. They have managed to stay stylish and relevant through the years. The new Stories Wayfarers are next generation from a technology standpoint and still as stylish as ever. As a Facebook user I do like to capture what’s going on around me during events, trips, etc. The Stories Wayfarers give you the ability to capture pictures and video without depending on your phone or some other form of camera. I find this to be really useful and a bit futuristic all at once. The Stories can also be used to listen to music or answer phone calls. They are not an in-ear design, so music and private conversations can be heard by people in your immediate area. The audio quality is good but not great, although these are considered “first generation” so improvements and updates are sure to follow. Pros: - Stylish and quality built Ray-Ban sunglasses - Ease of setup and usability - Ability to easily capture pictures and videos - phone can stay in your pocket - Battery life is good and the provided charging case makes it simple to charge Cons: - Good, but not great audio for calls and music All-in-all, the Ray-Ban Stories Wayfarers are stylish and functional sunglasses that also let’s the wearer capture and easily post to Facebook.

I do use Facebook alot and had the opportunity to try these out for an unbiased review and figured I'll try them out since they are also sunglasses. Inside the box you get a USB C cable to charge the case which charges the glasses and some paperwork of course. For me I knocked a star off because I have a bigger head and these don't quite fit. Wished they had a bigger size option. Anyways you need to download an app to work with the glasses and Facebook. Quite easy to use and share stuff to your Facebook stories.

    Poor Beta Version

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The sound is HORRIBLE – sounds tinny, no bass at all (Bose is so, so much better). The frames feel tight - causing headaches - and I think these Meteor frames are the widest. The light in front is completely annoying. It’s tricky to turn the frames on. The zoom feature in the app is poor - this is probably due to the weak camera resolution. The 30-second video limit needs to be increased. I just tried to turn them on, but it seems that the battery drains even in the case when not in use. And the battery drains so fast – took a couple pictures and a 30-second video and it dropped from 100 to 90%. These are absolutely not worth the huge price tag. I haven’t tested the photochromatic lens tinting or phone call clarity because I have no urge to wear these out. As others have stated, you need to use an FB account and the FB app stays active on your phone even if you force close it. The FB View app is elementary. If I keep these (just for the camera novelty), there must be a trade-in process for a big technical upgrade. It’s no wonder the manufacturer’s website does not accept reviews or have any real customer service. I also tried to submit their survey, but, as usual, after filling out all the fields, the survey fails to submit.

    scammed out of $500

I was scammed out of$500 by Rayban. Ordered the meta glasses which got lost in the mail. DHL confirmed in writing that the package was lost. Rayban's customer service was just awful to deal with. I was told I would get a refund in 3 weeks on chat, which I didn't. After weeks of following up, I called them and found out that the refund request wasn't even submitted. They asked I submit a form online which I did but again, nothing happened. I called back a few weeks later to find out that my refund request was denied with reason "this doesn't fall within our parameters for a refund". Not sure what that means but after reviewing their Better Business Profile, it seems they have scammed quite a few people.
