Mounting hardware poor quality. Great camera

The brackets were junk. The threads were not made right on metal bracket that attaches to electrical box so the wall bracket that is held by one screw won’t tighten properly All three systems same issue Camera works fine but mounting hardware not.

The features and technology provided by the Ring Floodlight Wired Plus are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the installation issue you mentioned in your review.

Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is an outdoor floodlight security camera with 1080p HD video. Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus has ultra-bright, motion-activated LED floodlights, "Customizable Motion Zones," "Live View," "Color Night Vision," a 105db siren, and two-way talk.

We have included a list here of the items that come in the box with the device:
      Floodlight Cam Wired Plus
      Terminal block
      Mounting bracket
      Installation tools and screws
      User manual
      Security sticker

Install your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus with this step-by-step guide.

Before you begin installing your Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus, make sure you’re following safety code standards. Warning: Electrical shock is a is a hazard. Disconnect power to the installation area at your circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning installation. Always use caution when handling electrical wiring. Installation by a qualified electrician may be required in your area. Refer to your local laws and building codes before performing electrical work. Permits and professional installation may be required by law.

Your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus security cam must be installed on a 4“ round UL-listed weatherproof electrical box. Make sure the power is turned off at the circuit breaker.
      1. Start in the Ring app.
Tap the menu (≡) on the left side of your dashboard in the Ring app.
      Tap "Set up a Device."
Follow the instructions in the Ring app.
Scan the QR code on the back of the device.
      2. Prepare your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus for installation.
If you’re mounting the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus on an eave or overhang, rotate the lights away from the camera.
If you’re mounting it to a wall, rotate the camera downward into the installation position.
      3. Remove your existing floodlight.
With the power off at the circuit breaker, remove your existing floodlight at the junction box and disconnect the wires.
If there is a metal bracket attached to the junction box, remove that as well.
      4. Choose your screws.
Select a set of screws that fit your junction box from the bags marked A through F. One size does not fit all, so there are several sizes in the bags.
Save a screw from either bag B or C for one of the following steps:
Bag A: standard screws that fit most junction boxes.
Bags B and C have longer screws for recessed junction boxes.
Bags D, E, and F are best for older boxes with smaller screw holes.
      5. Attach the metal mounting bracket.
Secure the metal mounting bracket with the screws you selected to the junction box, using either pair of screw holes. Be sure to align the bracket so the front text faces outward.
      6. Install the plastic mounting plate.
Pull gently from the opening of the plastic plate to free it from the fixture, then feed your power wires through the opening. After your power wires are fed through the mounting plate, center it over the metal mounting bracket. If you’re installing on a wall, the UP arrow should point up when your wires have been fed through the mounting plate. If you’re installing under an eave, the arrow should point toward the wall. Then, insert one of the screws from Bag B or C into the center hole, and tighten to secure.
      7. Hang up the Floodlight Cam Wired Plus.
Locate the nylon strap on the back of your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus light fixture and loop the buckle at the end over the hook on the mounting plate. Make sure that the buckle and hook are secure before releasing the light fixture. The green wire on the Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is the ground wire.
With the power still turned off at the breaker, use a wire nut from the bag marked G to connect the green wire coming from the junction box.
The white wire on the Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is a neutral wire. Use another wire nut from the bag marked G to connect the white (or neutral) wire coming from the junction box.
The black wire on the Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is a hot wire. Use another wire nut from the bag marked G to connect the black wire from your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus to the black (or hot) wire from your junction box.
Give all three wire connections and wire nuts a gentle tug to make sure they’re secure.
Warning: If you can’t easily identify the wires coming out of your junction box, have difficulty identifying them, or are uncomfortable in any way connecting them, consult a qualified electrician.
      8. Mount the fixture.
Tuck the power wires into the junction box, then align the two holes on the light fixture with the threaded posts on the plastic mounting plate. Slide the light fixture onto the posts and push it firmly into place.
Secure the fixture using two of the hex cap nuts from Bag G over the ends of the threaded posts.
Remove the reversible bit from the included screwdriver and use the handle to tighten the hex cap nuts.
Once your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is secured, apply a weatherproof silicone caulk or sealant (not included in the box) around the outside where the Floodlight Cam Wired Plus and the junction box meet.
      9. Restore the power at the breaker.
Now that your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is installed, you can turn the power back on at the breaker. The lamps on your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus will flash once it’s powered on.
      10. Once your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is installed, follow the set-up instructions in the Ring app.

My spotlight cam is about 2.5yrs old and the picture/video quality is getting poor because the lens is fading a. nd marbling. Its been Great until I noticed the quality diminishing with this happening. It faces west and gets a good portion of sun during the day. The motion sensor portion is plastic and its peeling giving a spotty motion sense. Im torn on recommending them again as I cant seem to get anyone at ring to see if any of this is covered by my ring warranty coverage.

    EASILY BREACHED not secure

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought Ring security system believing it would make my home secure. Was I ever surprised when my car was breached by a thief when my car was parked 10 feet from my camera. When I went to review incidents on my app, I was shocked to find no video while my car was looted. the camera was working because I saw the milkman making his delivery a couple hours earlier. I called Ring and theywere appogetic that the camera did not capture the incident. What they didn't tell me was (which Ifound out later) was that the thief used a WI-FI scrambler while stealing from my car 10 feetfrom my camera. To be fir to Ring, any security system that uses WI-FI is vulnerable to these scramblers. And to rub salt in my wound, Amazon who owns Ring sells these scramblers online. OUCH!!!

      Hi AnnS.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having optimal video quality from your Ring Floodlight Cam Plus. The features and technology provided by the Ring Floodlight Cam Plus are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is not providing the video quality expected. Poor video quality is almost always caused by some sort of wifi issue. If you're getting heavy pixellation, this is usually due to slow wifi speeds. To test your wifi speeds, turn off your cellular data on your mobile device and make sure you are connected to the same wifi as your Ring device.

Open the Ring app on your smart phone or tablet.
Tap the three lines on the top left of the dashboard.
      Tap Devices.
      Select your device.
      Tap Device Health.
Under Tools, tap on Test Your Wifi.
Tap Start to run a test that will measure your upload and download speed.
Both upload and download speeds should be at least 1 Mbps, although anything above 2 Mbps is ideal.
Check the numbers on your wifi speed test. If either your upload or download speed is below 1 Mbps, you might consider replacing your router (especially if it's older than five years) or contacting your internet service provider to find out what they can do about providing faster internet service.

      Hi PaulF.

Ring Floodlight Cam Plus was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. The Ring Floodlight Cam Plus is an outdoor security camera that includes advanced video, audio, connectivity, and motion detection features. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

Follow these steps to toggle on the switch for "Motion-Activated Lights" in the Ring app: Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰). Tap "Devices." Select the Ring Floodlight Cam Plus that you want to adjust. Select "Device Settings." Select "Light Settings." Toggle on the switch for "Motion-Activated Lights."

      Hi RobertT.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. At Ring, we understand it is essential to have your Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus online and working properly so you can keep your home secure. The features and technology provided by the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is not performing to your expectations. The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is compatible with b/g/n wifi networks operating on 2.4 GHz frequencies. High-speed internet is recommended. If your Ring device is far from your wifi router, it may be experiencing connection issues.

Here are a few of the top reasons for poor connectivity:
Your Ring device may be too far from your WiFi router.
Your mobile device has a low signal or poor connection.
Your home wifi connection is poor (or your internet service provider is experiencing high traffic).

To learn more about your device's signal strength, follow these steps:
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the menu (☰).
      Tap “Devices.”
Select the ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the “Device Health” tile.
Scroll to “Signal Strength” under the “Network” section.
The green, amber, and red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good; red is poor.
Move your wifi router off the floor.

Walls, floors, and furniture can interfere with or weaken your router's wireless signal. Choose an elevated, central, open location for your wifi router. We also recommend adding a Ring Chime Pro to your network. This device helps to extend your wifi signal to boost the network for all your Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus.

Missed a full grown deer running in front of it

I just had a full grown deer run in front of this camera and it missed it. It misses a lot of motion. Lights are super sensitive. The lights always go off but the camera does not. The camera does not have enough defintion to read license plates or even company logos on the sides of vehicles. Motion causes the resolution to drop as well. Highly dependant on network connection and quality.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

      Hello JoeyB,

We understand the importance of motion being detected consistently on your Floodlight Cam Wired Plus. A device installed at the recommended height of nine feet off the ground with customized zones can ensure proper motion detection. When creating your motion zones, note the potential paths people take to approach and draw your motion zones to exclude areas where you do not want the Ring device to monitor, such as busy streets or neighbor’s houses.

Customizable motion zones are featured in all of Ring's AC-powered products, which allow for a fuller feature set and greater degree of customization. This system’s customization options let you draw up to three areas in the camera’s view to detect motion in. These "motion zones" allow you to define a specific area that you want your Ring to cover, while ignoring everything outside that area. By drawing your motion zones to exclude high-frequency areas such as public paths and roads, you can reduce the number of "false positive" motion notifications (such as cars driving by) and greatly increase the effectiveness of your Ring device.
