It kept dropping the connections even though the wi-fi readings within their app kept showing I was well within the acceptable ranges. I purchased the additional wi-fi booster which only made the connection worse than without it. The most common excuse they gave was that with COVID-19 more people worked from home and kids doing school work were jamming up the internet. What the heck kind of excuse is that? I finally gave up and decided to return it. Do yourself a favor and buy Blink - that's what I got to replace it - easier to set up and doesn't drop connections!

      Hello mch64,

Thank you for voicing your motion and video recording concerns. We know the importance of being able to rely on your Stick Up Camera for home security. This device should provide you accurate motion detection and video storage when paired with a Ring Protect plan.

Motion detection relies on your device's position. A common error is mounting Stick Up Cam too high, and aiming it too low.

Stick Up Cam works great at eye-level, or slightly higher. At 5-7 feet from the ground, your Stick Up Cam can cover a wide visual area, as well as capture HD video of visitors' faces.

When Stick Up Cam is mounted too high, it often gets angled sharply downwards. This can work if you're only looking to detect motion in a very small area, but this often results in not detecting approaching visitors or capturing the top of heads when the motion sensors are triggered.

Can you please reach us when you get a moment? We'd love to evaluate your situation and help find a solution that you can rely on.

      Regards,
      Marlom at Ring. Ring

This product I worse than a $20 camera I purchased. The biggest problem is there is a blue light that appears when it is recording and you can not shut it off. That is very problematic in a window where it only reflects the blue light back. Ring support was hideous and extremely unhelpful. I'm disappointed with this camera the truth its a piece of crap. I even paid for the yearly plan, I mounted it on the corner of my roof, I have a mesh router 10 ft from it with 400 Mbps, and it still crap. When I want to go to live view when I get a motion alert a lot of times it's just buffers and say to try to reconnect. It's no good if I want to see right away so if a crime is being committed I can't see it at the moment only after the fact. So I can sound the siren or speak to the person at the moment. That was the whole point of getting this. Just disappointed.

      Hello

We understand the importance of being connected to live events in the moment. If you have recently received a notification on your mobile device or if you have gotten a blurry screen along with a message that the Ring App is having trouble connecting to the Ring device, this can be attributed to wifi connection. The three most common causes of this problem are the following:
      * A poor connection between your mobile device and the internet
      * Slow internet upload and download speeds
      * A poor connection between your Ring device and your router.

If your signal is poor or very poor, this can be caused by the distance between the router and your Ring product, the layout of your home, or the materials in your walls. For more information on how to make wifi work for your Ring Stick Up Cam: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020044511-How-to-Make-Wifi-Work-For-You.

      Hello wallycher62,

We are thankful for your feedback regarding your experience with the Ring Stickup Camera. We are constantly pushing ourselves to develop products to empower users with an affordable, effective way to monitor and secure their home. In pursuit of our mission to make neighborhoods safer, when applying technologies to our business, we always consider our three pillars of customer security, privacy, and user control. We understand how important it is to have your devices working as intended, as it offers a level of security in your home. After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Stickup Camera is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest-working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below: Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off). If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them. Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in. Wait for your internet to be restored. Hi Scamper.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is to have your Ring Stick Up Cam capture all the correct motion events. The Ring Stick Up Cam was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to person detection. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling the "Smart Alerts" feature for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts," please follow these steps:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap "Devices."
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap "Motion Settings."
      Tap "Smart Alerts."
      Tap "Enable Feature."
      Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done."

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Stick Up Cam, please reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. Ring devices require high-speed internet to bring you crisp, clear video and audio. Poor network connectivity can affect the performance of your Ring device. We are happy to share some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and fix common video issues that you may experience with Ring doorbells and cameras.

Here are some examples of video quality issues:
Overexposed, washed-out videos: Washed-out videos may be due to overexposure to sunlight.
Poor wifi signal strength: A decline in wifi signal strength may be caused by a weak connection between the router and your Ring device.
Traveling signal strength: This may be due to a wifi dead zone in your home where you lose signal strength between the router and your Ring device.

Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. In addition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable.

Check the "Device Health" section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI. Turn off your mobile device's cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device. Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰). Tap “Devices.” Select your device. Trigger an event on your Ring device. This could mean pressing the button on a doorbell or activating the motion sensors on a camera. Answer the event and examine the resulting video.

We have listed some possible outcomes from this test here:
Footage is crisp and clear: If your video appears good when next to the router, the issue may be caused by a disruption in between your router and your Ring device’s normal location. To fix this, try moving your device closer to the router or extending your wifi signal with a wifi extender like the Ring Chime Pro.

Footage is heavily pixelated: If you’re seeing heavy pixilation, even next to the router, this may be due to slow wifi speeds.
Severe pauses in live video: If your video pauses, stutters, or gets frozen and your wifi speed meets the minimum standards, try rebooting your router. Unplug your router, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. It should take three to four minutes to reboot. Then, test your Ring device again and see if there's any difference.

Long delay before your video starts: This is also caused by slow wifi speeds. Assuming you have high-speed internet, reboot your router and the mobile phone, tablet, or PC you're accessing the video feed on, Then see if there's any difference when it's back on line.

While there are no video settings that allow you to change exposure to sunlight, there are other ways you can fix overexposed, washed-out videos. Using a wedge kit or corner kit can change the angle of the doorbell. There are many different corner kits and wedge kits, so make sure you get one that is compatible with your particular model of doorbell.

Love it. I have it inside my garage. It’s great for indoors. Not sure about out doors.

I would recommend this to a friend
