I purchased this ring device to put inside to look outside. It said I can use it inside or outside. It really want you to use it outside. The Reflection from the window causes the ring device not to see motion or detect motion. It's useless if you use it inside. I would like to return it but I will try to put it outside.

This camera is great. It does what's expected. I love the alerts and abilty to see and speak through the camera. I own 5 of these. 4 outdoor and one indoor. My only issue is that it doesnt recognize dark skinned people on camera unless they're wearing bright clothing. I need my motion detection to always work. Also, I wish this panned, but its not a deal breaker. Its durable and the battery life is decent. I use this and its features daily and quite regularly. The quailty is clear. Its a little buggy sometimes, but so far its worked well.

This camera serves my purpose that I original purchased it for. It does not cover a great range of motion. You can zoom in and look at surrounding areas, but it doesn't always active in the set of the arrange of motion. I feel like it's more for monitoring and not as great for security. I like it comes in black and white.

You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling the "Smart Alerts" feature for people only in your Ring app. To enable "Smart Alerts," please follow these steps:
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap "Devices."
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap "Motion Settings."

      Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.

Very pleased so far, easy to install, works as advertised, only possible downside is a few second delay in motion detection video starting to record… usually the cat or squirrel is in the middle of the screen by the time the video starts… wish it was slightly quicker

Solid camera, audio could be better and the motion detection could also be a bit more precise and reactionary. You must pay for storage of videos, however the basic plan is very cost effective.

I'm still learning how to navigate this device. I'm using it to watch the backyard. We have neighborhood cats that come and eat my cat's food, then mark (sprays the automatic pet feeder So I scotch taped paper towel to the feeder and change when needed), The Ring alerts me when a cat is eating... The Ring shuts off when a cat is still there, why? there's still movement. Spay/Neuter please people... I may buy a wireless doorbell Ring when they're more affordable.

The camera has good clarity. The sound pick-up is also quite good. I get good resolution views on my iPhone from the images. It does pick up some motion that records that it probably shouldn't such as a big truck passing out on the street some fifty feet away. It does well on catching people coming and going up the driveway. I haven't noticed any images of the neighbor cats; that's good! Time will tell about how well the plastic housing will handle the intense summer heat.

I like the ring cam. The set up and installation was easy and simple. The drill bit does not come in the package but I already had one since I also have the video doorbell ring device. I got the battery option so I change it every one to two weeks. Sometimes the camera misses the motion detection or there's a delay in notifications. The app isnt always that great as I have an Android but it seems to work best on iphones according to the reviews. Other than that, I like it and it was affordable for what I needed.

Easy to install. I have 3 other ring cameras and have the ring wifi extender ( forgot what you call it) but even with that I have a close to poor signal eventhough that camera is closest to my wifi device. Only one time that I noticed that it didn't pick up a movement. Still would recommend because it's just so easy to put up and monitor.

      Hello Dutches,

Here at Ring, we understand how critical it is for your Ring Chime Pro to work as intended. It's a key component to ensure all connected Ring devices have a strong signal, along with providing an internal audio effect through your home. We are here to lend some assistance.

Based on your review, it seems that you are having trouble with your Ring Chime Pro extending your wifi signal. When this happens, we recommend moving your Chime Pro. The ideal placement for your Chime Pro is about halfway between your wifi router and the device it’s connected to.

Wifi extenders work best with devices that won’t be moved, and ideally, the maximum distance between the router and the device should be under 30 feet. If the distance is greater than 30 feet, you might need a different solution to a weak wifi signal, like a mesh network instead of a wifi extender. A wifi router creates a single access point that broadcasts a signal. The further the signal has to go, the weaker the signal gets.

For more information on troubleshooting your Ring Chime Pro, please see our help center
      article: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360048673232-Troubleshooting-Your-Ring-Chime-Pro-and-Understanding-Light-Patterns.

For any additional questions or concerns regarding your Ring Chime Pro, please feel free to reach out on our community forum at https://community.ring.com/. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thank you, Jamila with Ring. Ring

Placed it inside my bedroom window. Ring recommends you not do that since the device can’t detect motion from inside a window. Oh, and if you want to store your videos on the cloud you’ll have to pay a monthly subscription fee. Make an informed choice before buying.

Motion detection issues after just a week of use

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Camera alerted me to motion quite well for the first week of use and then after that, no matter WHAT or HOW the settings were set to, it simply stopped alerting or detecting motion. Also, the microphone does not pick up noise or voices correctly, but does pick up interference which garbles normal human speech so that it's hard to make out what people are saying.

      Hi DBOwman.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand how important it is for your Ring Stick Up Cam Battery device to function consistently and reliably, so you are alerted to any wanted or unwanted activity in or around your home. Being able to rely on the alerts to know when there is motion is an essential feature of the Ring Stick Up Cam Battery. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device's motion detection and two-way audio are not working as expected. If you are not getting alerts for all of the motion, you can adjust the motion frequency setting of your device. The motion frequency control allows you to reduce alerts from repetitive patterns of motion or increase alerts so you get notified about the motion events that matter to you. Follow these steps to adjust your motion frequency:

Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the dashboard.
      Tap Devices.
Select the device you'd like to adjust.
      Tap Motion Settings.
      Tap Advanced Settings.
      Tap Motion Frequency.
      Select Frequently, Regularly, or Periodically.
Frequently: Motion detection always stays active. Shortest battery life.
Regularly: Motion detection takes a short break after each Motion Alert. Medium battery life.
Periodically: Motion detection takes a longer break after each alert. Maximum battery life.
Tap Save in the upper right corner.

Poor wifi can often cause Ring device issues, including with recording or capturing audio. Follow these steps to check your Ring device's signal strength:

      Open the Ring app.
Tap the top menu (☰), then Devices.
Choose your doorbell or camera device.
      Tap the Device Settings tile.
      Tap Device Health.
Under the Network section, you'll see your device's signal strength.
If your signal strength (RSSI) is amber or red, your Ring device likely has a poor connection to your location's wifi. Try moving your wifi router closer to your Ring device.

Visit our support center if additional troubleshooting is needed.

      Hi Anonymous.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. At Ring, we understand it is essential to have your Ring Outdoor Cam(Formerly known as the Ring Stick Up Cam) online and working properly so you can keep your home secure. Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any activity around your home. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected.

      Tap "Smart Alerts."
      Tap "Enable Feature."
      Tap "Continue."
Select the notification options that you want for "Person" and "Other Motion."
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings, tap "Done..

The Ring Outdoor Cam is compatible with b/g/n wifi networks operating on 2.4 GHz frequencies. High-speed internet is recommended. If your Ring device is far from your wifi router, it may be experiencing connection issues.

Here are a few of the top reasons for poor connectivity:
Your Ring device may be too far from your WiFi router.
Your mobile device has a low signal or poor connection.
Your home wifi connection is poor (or your internet service provider is experiencing high traffic).

To learn more about your device's signal strength, follow these steps:
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the menu (☰).
      Tap “Devices.”
Select the ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the “Device Health” tile.
Scroll to “Signal Strength” under the “Network” section.
The green, amber, and red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good; red is poor.
Move your wifi router off the floor.

Walls, floors, and furniture can interfere with or weaken your router's wireless signal. Choose an elevated, central, open location for your wifi router.

Check your mobile device's signal. If your mobile device has one or two bars, this could be causing issues accessing your Ring device. For best results, make sure you're connected to wifi from wherever you are.

Most internet service providers range from 100–400 mbps (megabytes per second) for download speed and 10–100 mbps for uploading. If your wifi speed is falling below the ranges noted above, we recommend contacting your internet service provider.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Outdoor Cam, please reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.

      Thank you,
      Miyuki from Ring. Ring
