It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. To improve visibility at night, using the Night Vision feature is recommended. The Night Vision feature is an invaluable feature of the Ring Stick Up Cam that allows you to clearly view what’s happening on your property after dark.
Enable "Color Night Vision" in the Ring app to help improve clarity at night.
To turn the "Color Night Vision" on or off, follow these instructions:

I tried several different suggestions during the trial period to set it for person only detection and it still missed people on my porch. After the trial period you can only see the videos in real time. To see any videos you have to subscribe to a Ring service. Past the 15 day return policy with Best Buy; stuck with useless camera.

All battery-powered Ring devices, including the Indoor Cam, use passive infrared (PIR) sensors to detect motion. Adjustable motion zones work by identifying visitors based on a change in temperature, and sending a signal to your smart device when it detects one. You can control the sensors' range and sensitivity using the controls in the Ring app. It is also optimized for low-power operations to save on battery power.
