And it has great wifi. Still it does video most of the time. I still like it. We also have a first gen doorbell at another location.

The only thing I don't care for is the fish effect on the camera, not a game changer just the type of lense being used. You won't regret this purchase.

Generally I see the back side of people when they leave my door. It doesn’t record when they approach.

It is a ring and is owned by amazon so keep that in mind if you expect this to be 100% on point with its recording, motion detection and reliability. Although I have this in my 3 tenant building the foot traffic there is not as much as you would think, over the course of the day about 10 to 12 times a day should it sense and record motion but the start time and end time is always wrong compared to my hardwired ring floodlight....so if you need camera and want this i would recommend there floodlight over this.

The Ring Doorbell 3, as Ring’s premium battery video doorbell, is designed to provide advanced security features including improved motion detection, an added near motion zone, and Pre-Roll technology.
With the given environment in mind, we would like to look at a few concerns you may be experiencing that could also impact the battery life. One factor that comes into play with battery life, that is often overlooked, is the wifi signal you receive to your device. If you have a weak wifi signal, your device will struggle to stay online and continue to search for a signal, thus draining your battery life quicker. The best way to identify this concern is by performing a speed test at the mounting location of your doorbell, and checking the RSSI within the Ring app.
If you haven't already, please visit the Device Health portion of the Ring app to review the RSSI reading. RSSI is an indication of the doorbell's current internet connection. Numbers ranging in 70s or 80s may present a problem when connecting to your device. The Device Health page will also help you test your internet connection and provide tips on how to resolve common issues.
