However when I installed it, my existing door chim worked very briefly and then reverted to a buzzing sound, which was not only annoying but I was also concerned it may damage or deactivate my chim. After researching the cause and other user experiences, I returned the Ring device, not wishing to deal with the hassle of trying to further diagnose and try to fix the problem.

In regards to the buzzing sound from the chime kit in your home, it's possible the chime kit was not compatible with the Video Doorbell 3. You can review which chime kits are compatible with the Doorbell 3 here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044683012-Ring-Video-Doorbell-3-Chime-Kit-Compatibility-List.
