Keeps installing update and won't work
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the first one about a week ago. It had a strong internet connection but every few minutes it says it's installing an up date and I can't view anything while it does this. I was on the phone with Ring support for about an hour troubleshooting. At the end of the call the lady said it was a firmware issue and she'd have to look into it and would get back to me. About a day or so later I got an email from support that had the same troubleshooting steps that were already done numerous times. I took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it. The second one is doing the exact same thing. Strong internet connection and works for less than 5 minutes then says it's installing an update and I can't access anything. I'm taking it back to Best Buy tomorrow and getting my money back. Very disappointed. Heard so many good things about these cameras.

Posted .Hi KellyS.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
We understand how important it is for your Ring Video Doorbell 3 to complete its firmware update to install the latest features and security. Ring devices are constantly being updated to improve their efficiency, add new features, or upgrade their security. We would love the opportunity to work with you to ensure you are able to successfully set up your Ring Video Doorbell 3.
It sounds like your device was unable to complete its firmware update after you set it up. Firmware updates rely on a strong signal between your device and the wifi router; if your system has a weak signal, firmware updates may take longer or fail.We recommend bringing your device next to your router to ensure a strong connection until the update completes. During this process, you will be unable to control or adjust your Ring Video Doorbell. Your devices may also flash or turn on momentarily after a firmware update, but they will return to the state they were in before the update is complete. During a device firmware update, the lights on the device may flash. If you notice this happening, do not unplug or turn off your device or attempt to adjust your system until the firmware update is finished. Visit our support center for additional information: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041637332-Updating-the-Firmware-on-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-3.

Posted .Hi Jessy,
We, too, feel that having a quick and seamless connection to your Live View is critical to your home security. If you are experiencing delays when connecting to video or receiving notifications, it is important to remember that the internet speed coming to your house is not the same as the wireless connection around your house, and that many factors can cause issues with wireless performance.
This first step we suggest is designed to see if a poor wifi signal from your router could be the culprit. You'll be bringing your Ring Video Doorbell 3 inside close to your router to minimize any interference from your home's architecture or distance. To run the test, please follow the steps below.
-Open your Ring app on your smartphone, tablet, or PC.
-Be sure you've turned off your cellular data and connected to the same wifi network as your Ring device.
-Trigger a motion event or ring the bell on your Ring device.
-Answer the event and examine the resulting video.
The results you may see will help determine where the source of concern is coming from. If the video connects quickly, this will determine an issue with either distance or interference. A wifi extender or mesh network will help resolve this concern. If you still continue to have issues, we may need to look at a few other instances such as bandwidth or router settings.
We would love to hear from you directly on our Community Page, so to ensure you are receiving assistance in a timely manner. Please reach out, here: https://community.ring.com/.

Ring understands the importance of having your Ring Video Doorbell 3 online and working so you can keep your home secure. We know you rely on your Ring Video Doorbell 3 to keep your home secure. We will be more than happy to help you with this today.
t sounds like the Motion Frequency feature may not have been set up properly for your environment within the Ring App. Ring's Motion Frequency algorithm is an internal program that runs inside of your Ring device. It analyzes the traffic patterns of detected motions, looking for repetitive patterns. When it detects such a pattern, it essentially "sleeps" your device for a certain period of time, cutting down the number of motion alerts you'll get from the same set of stimuli. The more time a repetitive pattern of motion continues, the longer the time between issuing motion alerts.
Please reach out to us directly via our community forum at https://community.ring.com/ so we can find a solution to best resolve this and ensure the device is functioning as it was intended.

Posted .Hello WindowMount,
We agree it's vital that your Ring Doorbell 3 detect accurate motion within the monitored zones, so you can be alerted when someone is at your home. This is Ring's next-generation doorbell designed with improved motion detection, including the all new near zone. The near zone feature activates a horizontal motion zone in areas only 12 to 15 feet in front of your camera. Here are a few pro-tips for making the most of the motion detection feature on your Ring Doorbell 3.
1. Utilize the Near Zone feature.
2. Mount the Ring Doorbell 3 at about 48 inches (1.22 m) from the ground.
3. If you subscribe to a Ring Protect Plan, you can turn on People Only Mode within the Motion Settings to reduce the number of notifications you receive so that you only receive motion alerts caused by humans.
4. Set the Motion Frequency setting to 'Frequently', to ensure all activity is captured.
We would love the opportunity to assist with optimizing the motion settings. Posted .Hello Garza,
We appreciate you for bringing your Ring Video Doorbell 3 experience to our attention. The Ring Video Doorbell 3 is the next generation of Ring Video Doorbell following the Ring Video Doorbell 2, and the start of enhanced security around your entire property. With Ring Video Doorbell 3, you’ll always be connected to your home, so you can watch over your property and answer the door from anywhere. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern. After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell 3 is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:
Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).
If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.
Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for your internet to be restored.

Posted .Hi Beegee,
We, too, feel that having a quick and seamless connection to your Live View is critical to your home security. If you are experiencing delays when connecting to video or receiving notifications, it is important to remember that the internet speed coming to your house is not the same as the wireless connection around your house, and that many factors may cause issues with wireless performance.
We understand you've added a wifi extender which, in most cases, is a great solution for extending your network coverage. There are a few other simple, straightforward, solutions we would love to explore with you. This first step we suggest is designed to see if a poor wifi signal from your router could be the culprit. You'll need to bring your Ring Doorbell 3 inside, closer to your router, to minimize any interference from your home's architecture or distance. To run the test, please follow the steps below:
1. Open your Ring app on your smartphone or tablet
2. Ensure that you have turned off your cellular data, and are connected to the same wifi network as your Ring device.
3. Trigger a motion event or ring the bell on your Ring device.
4. Answer the event from your connected device, and examine the resulting video.
A few potential outcomes could be as follows: If you are connected to the video without delay when it's next to the router, the culprit is most likely a disruption occurring due to the distance between your router and the current location of your Ring doorbell. Additionally, If the connection issues persist, this may be contributed to a network setting, or your wifi speeds (bandwidth).
We would love to know if this resolves your concern, and ask that you share your experience with us on our Ring Community forum here: https://community.ring.com/.
We look forward to hearing from you!
