Works fine. Battery dies pretty quickly. The most annoying thing about this product is that you won’t be allowed to review videos it takes without signing up for their stupid subscription service. Which of course defeats the purpose and they give you a trial so you don’t realize you need the subscription service to view videos until the trial runs out, and then it’s too late to return the stupid thing. Do not waste your money!

Hello Rachel, Thank you so much for showing interest in our products and desiring to have more information regarding the optional Ring Protect Plan subscription. We want to ensure that we can answer any questions you may have concerning how the Ring Protect Plans work and how to save/share your videos, when necessary. Ring gives customers a complimentary 30-day trial with each new Ring device. After the 30-days, you can choose if you would like to purchase a Ring Protect Plan or not. A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan, you can still use the live view and two-way audio feature, you are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. Please see the following link for more information regarding the Ring Protect Plan and the benefits it offers: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001671383-General-Information-on-Ring-Protect-Subscription-Plans. Hello Slade,

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring experience with us. We appreciate that you have placed value on owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the motion detection and battery work as intended. It is a valuable feature that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell is not picking up the correct motion. The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release of the Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality, and near motion zone detection. If you are having trouble with your device picking up the correct motion, We recommend adjusting your motion settings and zones. Motion Zones allow you to define a specific area that you want your Ring device to cover while ignoring everything outside that area. By selecting Motion Zones to cover only the areas you want the Ring device to monitor, you can effectively monitor the area you want as well as reduce the number of "false positive" motion alerts. For more information on adjusting your motion settings to better fit your needs, please see our help center article titled: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041248971-Using-Motion-Zones-with-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2020-release-.

This doorbell camera is disappointing. Everyone has Ring cameras and because of that I will exchange this one and give them another chance. I bought this camera to replace the one I had been using for a few years. This Ring must be charged all day long in order for it to last most of the night operating as designed as a doorbell camera. I am also disappointed at the poor camera acuity compared to the doorbell cam I bought the Ring to replace. I will exchange it this week then update my review to reflect how it goes with the next Ring.

      Hi C130Av8r.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We would love to provide you with information to ensure you can get the most out of your device.

It sounds like you have some concerns with charging your device and the battery draining more quickly than expected. To charge the battery for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), use a common micro-USB cable, such as the orange one included in your Ring box. Simply plug it into any USB power source. Your doorbell can take around 5–10 hours to fully charge, depending on whether the USB cable is plugged into a USB port or a wall outlet.

Once fully charged, the battery can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. Visit our support center for tips on getting the most out of your device's battery life.

Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. We understand how important it is for your Ring Video Doorbell to function consistently and reliably, so you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. If you're experiencing battery issues with your Ring doorbell, start by fully charging the battery for 5 to 10 hours using the provided USB cable. You can monitor your battery level through the Ring app by checking the Device Health section, and keep in mind that battery life varies depending on how frequently the device is used and the environmental conditions where it's installed. You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.

If your device is unresponsive, try pressing and holding the reset button for 20 seconds. Follow the steps in the Ring app to reconnect the doorbell to your network. To reconnect a doorbell to your wifi network: Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (≡). Tap "Devices" and select the doorbell you'd like to reconnect to wifi. Tap the "Device Health" tile. Under "Network," tap "Change Network" and follow the prompts in the app. Allow some time for your device to fully reconnect to the network, then check your wifi signal strength in "Device Health" to confirm it has successfully reconnected.

Mount in place of existing doorbell? No!!!!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Wow! What a disappointment. Haven't even been able to install my unit yet. Apparently no-one that designed this to go with an existing doorbell actually looked at existing doorbell mounts. My doorbell has the standard outlet-plate type cover with a button. Behind this is an industry standard electrical 1-gang mounting box. There is NO WAY to mount the provided Ring "easy to use" mounting plate onto the existing standard electrical box. After 75 minutes on the phone with their very polite tech support, they agreed that they had never even been told about this and that I should mount it someplace else (requiring re-routing the wires and covering the unsightly doorbell hole) Their documentation in the package has no instruction on how to remove the pre-mounted plate from the unit. It is not obvious, very tight, and according to many users online, required anything from a credit card to a butter knife to actually execute. The BB product page must have something n there somewhere about the required monthly fee if you want to be able to record any video, but I could not find it. Overall a disappoint experience with a poorly designed and documented product.

Hi there. I'm glad to hear that your Video Doorbell is providing you with some peace of mind. Ring Video Doorbells and Security Cameras do not record continuously. They will record when motion is detected, when someone rings the Doorbell, or when you activate the Live View. With an active Ring Protect Plan subscription, these videos can be viewed in the Ring app from your Event History. Hi LayneP.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring device so that you can have a longer time between charge cycles. It is critical for a home security device to have enough power to keep your device online and ready to protect you. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like the battery is draining quickly on your device. The batteries in Ring devices are designed to go months between charges under normal conditions. However, real battery life is dependent on a number of factors, such as local weather, the number of events captured, and the frequency of activation.

The more events captured by your Ring devices, the more the battery is used. Using Live View often can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner. To prevent excessive activity, you can adjust your Motion Settings to a lower sensitivity, disable certain zones, change the motion frequency to regularly or periodically, or adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion.

Our top priority at Ring is to ensure that our customers have the best possible experience with our products. It is important to us that you have all the necessary information needed to ensure that Ring App is performing optimally for you, and that you are able to answer your motion alerts.

Based on your review, it seems that you are having trouble with answering your doorbell from your Ring App. Rapid Ring is a "light" version of the classic Ring app with most of the features stripped out except for the ability to activate a Live View and respond to an event as quickly as possible. By using the Rapid Ring app in conjunction with the original Ring app, you'll be able to answer your notifications as quickly as possible. Hi Lmbr.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of timely notifications and a lasting battery for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are here today to provide you with solutions that will assist you in finding the best device settings for your home’s environment.

It sounds like you have some concerns with the motion detection and battery life of your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). The proper placement of your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) will be vital in the motion detection of the device. One of the biggest mistakes people make is mounting their Ring doorbell too high. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) should be mounted at approximately 48 inches above the ground for optimal performance. If your device is mounted too high, you're more likely to catch the heat of passing cars than the heat of incoming visitors.

The motion sensors in your Ring Video Doorbell are designed to detect motion up to 155 degrees horizontally and from five to 25 feet outward from the fixture. Once you've confirmed the device is mounted at the proper height, you should start receiving more accurate motion notifications.

The rechargeable battery in your device can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. Proper positioning and more accurate motion detection can help with battery life. Visit our support center for more information.

We know how important it is to be able to see and speak to the person that is at your door. The doorbell is intended to provide you access to the camera for your peace of mind. Here at Ring, we take your security and peace of mind seriously. Please know that we are here to ensure that we can find a resolution together.

Poor video quality can be attributed to the wifi/bandwidth connection. One of the most important measurements in your Ring security network is the strength of your wifi signal. You may run a special connectivity test at any time to see if a bad wifi connection is responsible for problems with your device. We have included step by step instructions below:

      -Open Ring app
      -Hamburger Menu/ 3 Lines
      -Select Devices
      -Select a Ring device
      -Select Device Health
-Select "Test your Wifi" under the Tools Section
      -Tap "Start test
-Once the test is done, Enter your Results from the Speed test

Sometimes, even with high internet speeds, the connection is not as strong at the location of the Ring device. Also Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. This online forum is divided into four categories: Product Boards, Ring Updates, Tips + Tricks, and a Moderators’ Corner. The Product Boards are where you can begin new topics with your questions or feedback; there is also a search option which helps you find topics that were already posted by other neighbors. We invite you to visit our site at https://community.ring.com/ today!

      Thank you,
      Antonio from Ring Ring

Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Unboxing and installation was easy. First days after installed app crashed (Amazon issue) but mine stayed off for and add'l day. After having it for 2 weeks, now it's having issues with the wifi. Nothing with wifi has been changed, router placing or anything blocking the Ring doorbell.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
