Clarity much better than RING Generation 1. Downside is capturing 100% of action. Increasing frequency helps, but diminishes battery life quickly and you still don’t get 100% Another downside is the device mounting secure screws. They are so small that you have to be very careful not to drop them when removing/reattaching device for charging. Recommend that RING make the screws and the included screwdriver magnetized to avoid this problem. Still a great product that gives sense of security. I replaced my Generation 1 with a Generation 2, as after 3 years the center of the video/lense became fuzzy and you could only see the far outline of the circle.

So I broke down and brought one not disappointed at all. When I’m not home it will give me a ringtone to let me know someone is in my yard. Great buy. I’m glad I listened to my sister this time.

We got the bronze to match the house and it looks great. It’s a very easy set up too.

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good for real time and someone standing at your door, but not good for picking up things happening in the vicinity of the door. To be fair, I have mine in what is probably an uncommon configuration, mounted to the top of the door jam, looking straight down. I was having some packages disappear or never make it to my door, so got this as an attempt to monitor what was happening. First thing to note, mounted in any conventional way, say to the side of your door facing outward, the field of view will not include your doorstep. This is not a surprise since the camera would have to be able to see straight down, but since the app features package detection and alerts...I'm curious how the designer intended that be accomplished. Second, the motion sensitivity is generally poor. Even though mine is faced downward, the camera view still has a good 10-12 feet out from and to the sides of my door. I've tweaked the zones and other settings to favor greater sensitivity but nothing is ever picked up unless someone is standing on my doormat, and for a few seconds at that. Again, for the primary purpose of seeing and/or talking to someone at your door, it works just fine.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) is designed to work in many environments to provide you with peace of mind and security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the motion detection concern that you mentioned in your review.
The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) should be mounted no higher than 47-62 inches above the ground for optimal motion detection. We recommend using a Ring Wedge Kit for the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) to properly position the device for the best view. It is also important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

Both Best Buy and Ring were incredibly helpful when I was missing a component. Their quick and effective support has been impressive. I’ll update my review once I’ve had a chance to use it.
