The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. It sounds like your device is not detecting all of the motion you are wanting. The motion sensors in your Ring Video Doorbell are designed to detect motion up to 155 degrees horizontally and from five to 25 feet outward from the fixture. They're also more sensitive to horizontal movement across the detection area than vertical movement.
The proper placement of your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) will have a large impact on the motion your device detects. Proper placement depends on a number of factors, including the layout of your yard, the distance from the front door to the street, objects within the Ring Doorbell's field of view, the height of the door, and more. It sounds like you have some concerns with the video quality of your device when there is direct sunlight present. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) offers 1080p HD video. Direct sunlight may produce a glare on the lens at various parts of the day. If this is a concern for your device, using a wedge or corner kit can help. Wedge and corner kits can be mounted behind your device to angle it in different directions. Visit our support center for more information.
