Good price & like the product. Sorry to only give only 2 stars for this but the battery issue is why. Not the fault of Best Buy. When using Ring connected to the doorbell power, it will not charge the battery in cold weather (below 20° F). If you live in an area where it gets this cold or colder and it stays that way for days or weeks, you will have to remove the battery and recharge it every week until warmer weather returns.

      Hi BigT,

Thank you for bringing this concern up, as this is an important factor to consider when you live in colder climates. You noted that the battery would not charge on your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) in cold weather. When the battery is too hot or too cold on-board software will keep it from charging to avoid damaging the battery. Bring the battery inside and allow it to change to room temperature before trying to recharge the battery.

It sounds like this is impacting your experience, and I would love the opportunity to help improve that for you. Please reach out to us, so we may address this concern with you directly, and find a solution that works best for you and your environmental needs.

      Hi Gordo.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) record clear and concise videos so that you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely assist you with this today, and we are confident we can find the correct settings for your home’s environment.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to "Night Vision." With Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), stay connected to your home from anywhere by seeing who’s at your door and answering it right from the Ring app. Enjoy enhanced features like upgraded video quality from 720p HD to 1080p HD, "Near Zone" motion detection in areas as close as 5 to 15 feet in front of your home, and a reimagined mounting setup that simplifies installation. To ensure that the "Night Vision" feature works as intended, make sure your Indoor Cam’s infrared light is toggled on in the Ring app. The infrared light control is in your Ring app under Video Settings. Enable "Color Night Vision" in the Ring app to help improve clarity at night.

To turn the "Color Night Vision" on or off, follow these instructions:
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the "Menu" (☰).
      Tap "Devices."
Select the device you want to adjust.
      Tap "Device Settings."
      Tap "Video Settings."
Toggle "Color Night Vision" on or off.

Although rare, there have been instances where a Ring device can experience black, pink, and other distorted video quality, like night vision video captured during daytime hours. Here are a few things to try.

Check your Ring device's signal strength.
If your Ring device is far from your wifi router, it may be experiencing connection or video issues.
      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the "Menu" (☰).
      Tap "Devices."
Select the Ring device you would like to test.
Tap on the "Device Health" tile.
Scroll to "Signal Strength" under the "Network" section.
The green, amber, and red colors are indicators of your device connection. Green is good; red is poor.

Reboot your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) in the Ring app.

      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the "Menu" (☰).
      Tap "Devices."
Select the device that you wish to reboot.
Tap on the "Device Health" tile.
Scroll down to "Reboot This Device."
Give your device a few moments to start back up.

We invite you to reach out to our community if any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.). Hello Wazii14,

We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the Ring Video Doorbell 2020 work as intended. It is a valuable device that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality and near motion zone detection.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell 2020 is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:
Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).
If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.
Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for your internet to be restored.

Here is a helpful article which walks you through additional steps to take if the issue still persists for you after your modem/router reboot: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217240386-In-app-Setup-Failing-Repeatedly.
Additionally, if you have not already, please check out our Ring Community forum where other Ring users, like yourself, have an open discussion platform to share their experiences, as well as solutions to issues experienced: https://community.ring.com/.

This doorbell camera is disappointing. Everyone has Ring cameras and because of that I will exchange this one and give them another chance. I bought this camera to replace the one I had been using for a few years. This Ring must be charged all day long in order for it to last most of the night operating as designed as a doorbell camera. I am also disappointed at the poor camera acuity compared to the doorbell cam I bought the Ring to replace. I will exchange it this week then update my review to reflect how it goes with the next Ring.

      Hi C130Av8r.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We would love to provide you with information to ensure you can get the most out of your device.

It sounds like you have some concerns with charging your device and the battery draining more quickly than expected. To charge the battery for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), use a common micro-USB cable, such as the orange one included in your Ring box. Simply plug it into any USB power source. Your doorbell can take around 5–10 hours to fully charge, depending on whether the USB cable is plugged into a USB port or a wall outlet.

Once fully charged, the battery can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. Visit our support center for tips on getting the most out of your device's battery life.

      Hi EricaG.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having a consistent wifi signal for the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). Having a solid connection ensures you do not miss any activity at your door. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the connectivity issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is losing its connection to your home's wifi. If your device is continually falling offline, the problem is almost always related to poor wifi connectivity caused by signal fluctuations, channel congestion, or data loss.

To determine whether or not the problem is caused by poor upload speed, run a speed test to see if your network can support Ring devices. Ring devices with 1080p displays require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance.

You can also check for poor signal strength. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable. Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI.

      Hello Safeway,

We are happy to have you as a part of the Ring Community, and thank you for sharing your experience with us! Ring knows the importance of having the motion detection work as intended. It is a valuable feature that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

All battery-powered Ring devices, including the Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release), use passive infrared (PIR) sensors to detect motion. Adjustable motion zones work by identifying visitors based on a change in temperature, and sending a signal to your smart device when it detects one. You can control the sensors' range and sensitivity using the controls in the Ring app. It is also optimized for low-power operations to save on battery power.

Please reach out to us directly via our community forum at https://community.ring.com. We are confident, with a few changes, we can get the device to function as it is intended to and provide you and your family a sense of security.

      Hi Aboogie22,

Your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) is built with a 155 degree horizontal by 90 degree vertical field-of-view, which should accurately detect motion using the PIR sensors. If you feel you are not receiving a proper view from your Ring Doorbell, we may want to address the height at which your device has been placed.

To get the most out of motion detection and the doorbell's field-of-view, we recommend mounting your doorbell around 49 inches from the ground. If you would like to visit our webpage for more information on mounting, we recommend this article as a helpful guide: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040763812-Proper-Positioning-for-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2020-release-.

Additionally, your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) should be providing you with a clear 1080p HD resolution video when capturing your motion events and doorbell dings. We would love to investigate this concern with you further, as this may be related to wifi connection.

You can also find great suggestions regarding these concerns from other Ring users like yourself on our Ring Community page at Ring.com: https://community.ring.com/.

We hope to hear from you soon,

Does not work without subscription service.

Works fine. Battery dies pretty quickly. The most annoying thing about this product is that you won’t be allowed to review videos it takes without signing up for their stupid subscription service. Which of course defeats the purpose and they give you a trial so you don’t realize you need the subscription service to view videos until the trial runs out, and then it’s too late to return the stupid thing. Do not waste your money!

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hello Rachel, Thank you so much for showing interest in our products and desiring to have more information regarding the optional Ring Protect Plan subscription. We want to ensure that we can answer any questions you may have concerning how the Ring Protect Plans work and how to save/share your videos, when necessary. Ring gives customers a complimentary 30-day trial with each new Ring device. After the 30-days, you can choose if you would like to purchase a Ring Protect Plan or not. A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan, you can still use the live view and two-way audio feature, you are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. Please see the following link for more information regarding the Ring Protect Plan and the benefits it offers: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001671383-General-Information-on-Ring-Protect-Subscription-Plans. We invite you to reach out at https://community.ring.com/ if any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Protect Plan question. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback/experiences with Ring. Thank you, Jamila with Ring Ring
