It sounds like your device does not have a strong connection to your home's wifi network. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) requires a high-speed internet connection and is compatible with b/g/n wifi networks operating on 2.4 GHz frequencies. Walls, floors, furniture, and appliances can all block and weaken wifi signals. To improve performance, try the following suggestions:

If your wifi router is inside a cabinet, closet, or hidden behind or under furniture, move it out into the open—at least six inches from any wall.
Move your wifi router to a room that is closer to your Ring devices, if possible.
Add a Ring Chime Pro or a mesh networking system to extend your wifi network's range.

With Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), stay connected to your home from anywhere by seeing who’s at your door and answering it right from the Ring app. Enjoy enhanced features like upgraded video quality from 720p HD to 1080p HD, Near Zone motion detection in areas as close as 5 to 15-feet in front of your home and a reimagined mounting setup that simplifies installation. While subscribed to one of our Protect Plans, you will have access to videos of every motion and live view event. Without this service, you will still receive real-time video alerts on your smartphone and have access to the live view feature.

Hi Snoopy, I know it's important to be notified of visitors at your door. When someone rings your Doorbell, you should receive a push notification on your phone as long as Ring Alerts are toggled on. The Ring Video Doorbell can also be hardwired to an existing doorbell circuit if you have a chime kit in your home. Ring knows the importance of having the motion detection work as intended. It is a valuable feature that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

Adjustable motion zones is enabled in all battery-powered Ring devices, and uses passive infrared (PIR) sensors to detect motion. By enabling you to adjust the sensitivity of your existing motion sensors, you can receive only the alerts that you care about most. Adjustable motion zones work by identifying visitors based on a change in temperature, and sending a signal to your smart device when it detects one. You can control the sensors' range and sensitivity using the controls in the Ring app. It is also optimized for low-power operations to save on battery power.
