The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the motion detection issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your device is not detecting the motion you are expecting it to. One of the biggest mistakes people make is mounting their Ring Doorbell too high to catch people's faces. If the Ring Doorbell is mounted at the correct height, approximately 48 inches above the ground, it will capture motion optimally.

Your Ring Doorbell sees the world through a network of PIR or "Passive Infrared" motion sensors. These are heat sensors that detect motion by monitoring heat within the detection area. Since people are hotter than the surrounding areas, when a person enters the detection area the heat measurements change. The motion sensors register this change as movement and send out an alert.

The motion sensors in your Ring Video Doorbell are designed to detect motion up to 155 degrees horizontally and from five to 25 feet outward from the fixture. They're also more sensitive to horizontal movement across the detection area than vertical. If you mount the Ring Doorbell too high, you're more likely to catch the heat of passing cars than the heat of incoming visitors.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here today to provide you with solutions that will assist you in finding the best device settings for your home’s environment.

"Package Alerts" are available on you Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) and can alert you when there is a package in designated areas at your device. "Package Alerts" work best with medium-to-large shipping boxes. Envelopes, tubes, small boxes, and food deliveries may not be detected. This feature also relies on "Motion Detection," so make sure you have that feature turned on.

To enable the "Package Alerts" feature in your Ring app, follow these steps:
Open your Ring app.
Go to "Devices" and select a compatible device.
Select "Motion Settings" > "Smart Alerts."
Under the "Package" section:
To turn on and record your package deliveries, select the video icon.
Follow the instructions and create your "Package Zone."
To start getting package alerts, make sure you select the alert icon.
Customize your "Package Zone" by following the on-screen prompts.
Customize your "Package Sensitivity" by following the on-screen prompts.
