It’s a good doorbell but wife looses connection from time to time. I think because it doesn’t have the dual band wifi like the higher models. I would go with 1 model up. Never had problem with the ring Pro model Other then that it’s great product.

      Hello Xpolo,

We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the Ring Video Doorbell 2020 work as intended. It is a valuable device that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality and near motion zone detection.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell 2020 is having trouble staying connected to your home wifi. When this occurs, we recommend rebooting your wifi modem and router. Since your router and modem are usually the hardest working devices in your house, for optimal performance, you should reboot them about once a month. To reboot routers or modems, follow the instructions below:
Unplug your router or modem from its power supply (don’t just turn it off).
If your router and modem are separate, unplug both of them.
Wait at least 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
Wait for your internet to be restored.

Here is a helpful article which walks you through additional steps to take if the issue still persists for you after your modem/router reboot: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217240386-In-app-Setup-Failing-Repeatedly.
Additionally, if you have not already, please check out our Ring Community forum where other Ring users, like yourself, have an open discussion platform to share their experiences, as well as solutions to issues experienced: https://community.ring.com/.

Camera and doorbell lag in response to phone. Make sure you have a good router and internet for storage. Video storage also costs extra.

      Hi RichardG.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

We understand how critical it is for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) to notify you of meaningful motion events in a timely manner. The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) was designed to send you notifications based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We want to ensure your device is working as intended.

It sounds like your notifications are more delayed than you would like. The speed at which notifications get sent to your phone will be dependent on your home's wifi speeds, the signal strength of your Ring device, and your phone's signal strength. If your speeds are sufficient, we recommend checking your Ring device's signal strength.

Follow these steps to check wifi signal strength—or RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator)—in the Ring app:

      Open the Ring app.
      Tap the menu (☰).
Tap Devices and select the Ring device you'd like to check.
      Tap the Device Health tile.
Under the Network section, look for Signal Strength.
If the RSSI value listed is green, your device has a strong signal. If it is grey, amber, or red, it may have a moderate to weak signal.
The larger the number after "RSSI-" the weaker the signal.
For example, a device displaying "RSSI-36" has a stronger signal than a device showing "RSSI-64".

You can visit our support center for tips on how to improve signal strength.

Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. This online forum is divided into four categories: Product Boards, Ring Updates, Tips + Tricks, and a Moderators’ Corner. [Employee of bestbuy] Product itself is good but ring and Amazon’s neighbors app has horrible content moderation standards. Legitimate posts get taken down but useless stuff stays up. One example is roughly 10 posts about fireworks on the 4th. while a post about someone attempting to open car doors get taken down. Go with another brand like Eufy, Blink, or Arlo

The Snapshot capture capability use was short lived compares to Video Doorbell 3 Plus, which I have to start the Ring subscription. I expect the same timeframe benefit on using the snapshot capture but it's rather disappointing.

      Hello Mike,

Thank you so much for showing interest in our products and desiring to have more information regarding the optional Ring Protect Plan subscription. We want to ensure that we can answer any questions you may have concerning how the Ring Protect Plans work and how to save/share your videos, when necessary.

Ring gives customers a complimentary 30-day trial with each new Ring device. After the 30-days, you can choose if you would like to purchase a Ring Protect Plan or not. A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan, you can still use the live view and two-way audio feature, you are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. Please see the following link for more information regarding the Ring Protect Plan and the benefits it offers: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001671383-General-Information-on-Ring-Protect-Subscription-Plans.

Hi Amys. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Consistent and dependable motion alerts are an essential feature for the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) to function properly. This is likely the reason you purchased this security device in the first place: to be alerted to people on your property. Please know that we are here to assist and are confident that together we can find a solution.

It sounds like the device is not detecting motion as you expected. Thank you for your diligence and commitment in working with our community support towards resolving this matter. This camera uses Adjustable Motion Detection and runs using passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distance under the Motion Settings tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the Motion Frequency setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the Motion Frequency to 'Frequently'.It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This includes increasing the "Motion Sensitivity" and setting "Motion Frequency" to "Frequently" in the Ring app.

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling Smart Alerts for people only in your Ring app.

      To enable Smart Alerts:

Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap Devices.
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap Motion Settings.
      Tap Smart Alerts.
      Tap Enable Feature.
      Tap Continue.
Select the notification options that you want for Person and Other Motion.
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings tap Done.

We agree that your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) should notify you when someone is at your home consistently and reliably. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other. We invite you to reach out to our Community for additional tips and support! Our top priority is ensuring the motion detection is meeting your needs.

      Thank you,
      Melissa from Ring. Ring
