I hardwired it to existing doorbell wires. No need to recharge battery and ring existing chime. Very convenient. After a month you have to subscribe at $30/ year to save video of movement. Otherwise works great.

I have had the original Ring for years, transferred it between 2 homes, and was very happy with the reliability and performance. This Ring Gen 2 with 1080P is far superior both in picture quality, field of view, and audio quality. Considered the Ring Pro but specs are very similar and couldn’t see spending over twice as much for the slimmer form factor. Very happy with the purchase.

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little skeptical about the battery life and recharge frequency... its been 1 month since full charge and it shows 69% battery charge... so I feel its solid for at least 3-4 months... not too bad. Taking it off and charging is fairly simple task. I considered putting on solar panel but I dont get direct sunlight for more than couple of hours so I decided against it. If recharging get's annoying, I will come back and update my review :)

If you plan on hardwiring it, I'd suggest the version lower (the one that requires the hardwire) because they do the same thing. This one is more to have the wireless option, but you have to remember to charge it. If I had realized before I would have gotten the hardwire only one.

Also, it’s an enormous hassle to have to unscrew the faceplate to remove battery each time it needs charging. Had I known these factors, would have selected another camera. Does normally have good picture quality and battery charge lasts as long as my Arlo battery does.

The Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) is a battery-powered device that, when not connected to a continuous power supply, will need recharging. Batteries in Ring devices are designed to go months between charges under normal conditions. However, real battery life is dependent on a number of factors, such as local weather, the number of events captured, and the frequency of activation.
To help prevent needing to remove the device for recharging, you can connect it to an existing doorbell system, a solar charger for video doorbell (2nd Generation), or a transformer (8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz) for continuous charging. Visit our support center for more information.
