I might have gone a different direction if I had understood that, still might. For now ill keep it as a "live doorbell" though, it works just fine. 1080p, but the wide angle, while generally helpful, makes anything more than a few feet away too small for quality recording (ie mostly useless for recording any shady activity).

While the Ring Protect Plan is required in order to have video storage, it also provides other features that may be useful for you. I spent a day trying to install and uninstall the unit. I also rebooted my router and modem. Still had issues, returned the unit and took a chance with another unit. I had to stand in line for 20 minutes waiting to return it and then I was told if I wanted to exchange the unit I would have to go get another one. Finally home and installed the unit within 45 minutes. Only reason I gave this unit a 3 is because the second one was so easy to install.

No problems at all. Everything seems to be working. I live in a mobile home with aluminum siding so I haven't put it on the wall yet. As I'm an 80-year-old, I'm waiting for my son to come over. He will make an opening in the aluminum and install the doorbell over it so that a good signal will get to my router, about 10 feet from where the doorbell will go. Gave it 4 stars because not yet installed on the wall. Will update the rating and review if necessary. So far so good. Thinking about hard wiring it - we'll see.
