Rather than leave you hanging while your system's high-quality video buffering catches up, Adaptive Video Play transmits a lower quality video image in the interim. When the higher quality video image is loaded, your image will seamlessly switch over to a higher resolution.
Adaptive Video Play is necessary because loading times for videos can vary based on your available bandwidth.

Speed is important for high quality video playback on your Ring app timeline. If you have a Ring device that's supposed to transmit video at 1080p, but occasionally shows an entire video in 720p, that's the Adaptive Video Play system in action.

This ring camera is lovely for the peace of mind it gives when people ring the doorbell I can have a face to view before opening the door, however you have to purchase their monthly subscription to see the video it takes at a later time. This is inconvenient for people who are unable to view their notifications at the time when they occur. Other than this issue the camera is perfectly fine.

It sounds like you have some concerns regarding the optional Ring Protect Plans. The Ring Protect Plan is a subscription that gives you access to paid features for your Ring device. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account.
Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.
