The camera isn't the best resolution. Somewhat blurred at night. Sometimes doesn't capture everything it should. Slow in loading video to review. I think this probably more the app than the hardware.

Hi Watergirl2o. I definitely understand wanting to get the most out of your home security. I'd recommend checking through the troubleshooting steps here https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/205348254-Poor-Video-Quality-Troubleshooting for video quality concerns. If the video in the Ring app is loading slowly, ensure the wifi or cellular data connection on your phone is strong. Hi AngelR.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Video Doorbell to function consistently and reliably, so you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. If you're experiencing battery issues with your Ring doorbell, start by fully charging the battery for 5 to 10 hours using the provided USB cable. You can monitor your battery level through the Ring app by checking the Device Health section, and keep in mind that battery life varies depending on how frequently the device is used and the environmental conditions where it's installed. You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.

If your device is unresponsive, try pressing and holding the reset button for 20 seconds. Follow the steps in the Ring app to reconnect the doorbell to your network. To reconnect a doorbell to your wifi network: Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (≡). Tap "Devices" and select the doorbell you'd like to reconnect to wifi. Tap the "Device Health" tile. Under "Network," tap "Change Network" and follow the prompts in the app. Allow some time for your device to fully reconnect to the network, then check your wifi signal strength in "Device Health" to confirm it has successfully reconnected.

For more information on your Ring Video Doorbell, we invite you to reach out to our community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their personal feedback and experiences with Ring. We look forward to hearing from you if we can be of any further assistance!

I’ve had to purchase two of these. It’s a little concerning that it hasn’t recorded when people have left our home. It doesn’t capture everything when things are actually in motion like it should. Giving this third and last shot.

      Hello Jackie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring experience with us. We appreciate that you have placed value in owning a Ring device to secure your home. Ring understands the importance of having the motion detection and battery work as intended. It is a valuable feature that is designed to notify you as to who may be near your home. Please know that it is a priority for us to be of assistance and find a resolution to your concern.

After reading your review, it seems that your Ring Video Doorbell is not picking up the correct motion. The Ring Video Doorbell (2020 release) is the next generation of the original Ring Video Doorbell. In addition to new video features such as Near Zone functionality, the 2020 release Video Doorbell boasts 1080p video, improved night vision, improved audio quality and near motion zone detection. If you are having trouble with your device picking up the correct motion. We recommend adjusting your motion settings and zones. Motion Zones allow you to define a specific area that you want your Ring device to cover while ignoring everything outside that area. By selecting Motion Zones to cover only areas you want the Ring device to monitor, you can effectively monitor the area you want as well as reduce the number of “false positive” motion alert. For more information on adjusting your motion settings to better fit your needs, please see our help center article titled: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041248971-Using-Motion-Zones-with-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell-2020-release-.

If you still have concerns regarding this, we would love to hear from you directly on our Ring Community forum. This is a platform intended for Ring users, just like yourself, to create open discussions regarding their Ring experiences, provide suggestions or feedback, and more: https://community.ring.com/.

Thank you, Jamila, with Ring Ring

      Hi Christina.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. At Ring, we understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. Being able to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) is a valuable feature of the Ring Protect Plan. The Ring Protect Plan provides valuable capabilities, such as accessing paid features and the ability to save, download, and review footage captured by your Ring device. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like there was some confusion regarding the optional Ring Protect Plan. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account. Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.

At Ring, our top priority is to ensure that you have the best possible experience with our products and services. We invite you to reach out to our community if any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.). The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other.

    Ring's Dirty Little Secret

    |

Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Buyer Beware. Ring's "Dirty Little Secret" is that even if you hardwire this device to an existing doorbell's 24 VAC circuit it will likely discharge its battery and turn off in cold weather. This poor design does not power the device via the wired connection. It only charges the battery and the battery will not accept a charge when cold. In northern areas your battery will discharge and the unit will shut down until you remove it from the wall, disconnect the 24VAC wires, bring it inside to warm up, charge it for 9+ hours via USB, rewire your 24VAC supply wires, likely have to reconnect it to the WiFi and remount it to the wall! Patently Ridiculous! If you live in a northern climate, buy the "NEW" Wired only device for $40 less.

      Hi MisterB,

You are correct. The lithium-ion battery which is used inside our battery-operated devices are affected by cold weather. This is an important detail to consider when deciding which Ring devices work best for you. On our website we provide a detailed article regarding the negative affects cold weather may have on battery operated devices: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005939463-Cold-Weather-and-Battery-Powered-Ring-Doorbells. Additionally, we feel it is important to note that while the Ring Doorbell (2020 Release) has the capability of hardwiring, hardwiring the device is meant solely to extend the battery life between charges.

We would love to go over these concerns with you, to ensure you have a doorbell that supports you best. Meanwhile, if you would like to look at our complete list of hardwiring doorbell solutions, we have a convenient comparison chart on our website that you may find useful: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004668746-Ring-Video-Doorbells-Product-Comparison.
