If I could rate it lower I would. I bought this product under the assumption the battery lasted 6-12 months from the research I had done. I’ve been having to charge it every 2 weeks.

      Hi JovanG.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) battery lasting for extended periods of time. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation), is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We would love to work with you to ensure your device is set up for optimal performance in your home's environment.

It sounds like you have some concerns with the battery life of your device. The rechargeable battery can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. If your device is detecting an excessive number of motions, it will drain your battery more quickly. Proper placement of your device can have a significant impact on the motion your device detects. For the best results, mount it around four feet (1.2 meters) above the ground. If you're connecting to existing doorbell wiring that's higher than four feet and want to angle your Ring Doorbell down for a better view, you can use a wedge kit (sold separately) to angle your device down. Visit our support center for more information.

      Hello Rhonda,

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release) feedback with us directly, we appreciate it! While batteries in Ring devices can go months between recharges with normal use, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with assistance to get the most out of your Ring device's battery life and walk through a factory reset of the doorbell device.

If you’ve tried everything else, and are still not succeeding to set up your device, you can try performing a reset/restore on your Ring doorbell device by holding down the set-up button on the device for 20 seconds and then releasing it. Here is a helpful article that walks through this process in more detail: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/217240386-In-app-Setup-Failing-Repeatedly.

If your Ring doorbell or security camera battery is draining too fast, it might be caused by a poor wifi connection. Your doorbell or camera may be frequently disconnecting and reconnecting to your wifi network. Each time a disconnection or reconnection happens, your Ring device uses power, which then contributes to the battery draining too fast. Here is a helpful article that has some tips and tricks to improve your battery life: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/4405531384468-How-to-Fix-a-Ring-Doorbell-or-Security-Camera-Battery-Draining-Too-Fast.

Foolishly cut my wire doorbell connection with new door install and cannot retrieve without major tear up and expense. Bought this from friend/media hype. Was major annoyance to get connected and then required an add on separate chime. It has been installed 3 months and has to be removed to be charged. VERY ANNOYING. Big regret.

      Hi Cruz.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) to record clear and concise videos so that you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.) are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the video quality concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected. Please be sure to remove the plastic film from the front of the device. If the film is left on, it can cause the video footage to appear blurry. Ring devices require high-speed internet to bring you crisp, clear video and audio. Poor network connectivity can affect the performance of your Ring device. We are happy to share some troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose and fix common video issues that you may experience with Ring doorbells and cameras.

Ring devices with 1080p video require at least 1 Mbps upload and download speeds, though 2 Mbps is recommended for optimal performance. In addition to ensuring that you have sufficient wifi speeds, you will also want to check the signal strength of your device. A poor wifi signal can cause connectivity with your Ring device to be unreliable.

Check the Device Health section of your Ring application to ensure the device’s RSSI is within an acceptable range. The recommended range for optimal performance is 0 to -60 for the RSSI. Turn off your mobile device's cellular data and connect to the same wifi network as your Ring device. Open the Ring app. Tap the menu (☰). Tap “Devices.” Select your device. Trigger an event on your Ring device. This could mean pressing the button on a doorbell or activating the motion sensors on a camera. Answer the event and examine the resulting video.

We have listed some possible outcomes from this test here:

      1. The footage is crisp and clear.

If your video appears good when next to the router, the issue may be caused by a disruption in between your router and your Ring device’s normal location. To fix this, try moving your device closer to the router or extending your wifi signal with a wifi extender like the Ring Chime Pro.

      2. The footage is heavily pixelated.

If you’re seeing heavy pixilation, even next to the router, this may be due to slow wifi speeds.

      1. There are severe pauses in live video.

If your video pauses, stutters, or gets frozen and your wifi speed meets the minimum standards, try rebooting your router. Unplug your router, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. It should take three to four minutes to reboot. Then, test your Ring device again and see if there's any difference.

      4. There is a long delay before your video starts.

This is also caused by slow wifi speeds. Assuming you have high-speed internet, reboot your router and the mobile phone, tablet, or PC you're accessing the video feed on. Test an event when it's back online to see if there's any difference.

While there are no video settings that allow you to change exposure to sunlight, there are other ways you can fix overexposed, washed-out videos. Using a wedge kit or corner kit can change the angle of the doorbell. There are many different corner kits and wedge kits, so make sure you get one that is compatible with your particular model of doorbell.

      Hi MercedesN.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of your device working as you expect it to. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We would love the opportunity to work with you and ensure the different features of your device are working as intended.

It sounds like there is some concern regarding your Ring Video Doorbell device behaving differently in the Ring app compared to your other device. We recommend checking the Rich Notification setting for your device. Rich Notifications are snapshot images that appear with your camera or doorbell notifications that can show you a preview of your event video. With a quick look at your notification, you can know immediately if you need to open up Live View to take a closer look or if you’d rather wait and review your video later.

When a rich notification appears, you can expand the notification to zoom in and see a bigger version of the image. Rich Notifications work on devices that are subscribed to an active Ring Protect plan or a trial. Visit our support center for more information.

I explained to the salesperson what I needed this item for, told me it would be perfect, I asked if I needed any additional hardware to install before leaving. No I should not. By the time I got someone to install it, the first thing the instructions tell me , cannot be installed where there is an intercom. So it turns out to be useless to me and past the return time.
