This works well for what it's designed for. Now, I know who is rang the bell. A fun part of this is that there is a community that posts incidents around my area. This let me know more about the safety concerns in my neighborhood.

    Smart Alerts Don't Work

Earlier this summer, after a couple of years of working fine, suddenly Smart Alerts (a service I pay Ring for annually) stopped detecting vehicles. Over months I tried resetting, rebooting, reconfiguring, and restarting. I tried suggestions I saw on forums from others with the same issue. Ring's AI Chat was of no help at all, an email was never responded to, and Customer Service was entirely useless. Last ditch effort I bought another exact same model doorbell hoping it was some kind of weird electronics failure, but even with a new unit & fresh install it still does not detect vehicles. Keeping in mind this system/configuration worked fine for about 2 years then suddenly stopped detecting only vehicles, and because of what I've read on different forums, I suspect Ring changed something in their Smart Alert programming which had this effect on my system (and apparently on other's too). I can't recommend Ring products or their services because of this failure, I'll not be renewing service with them going forward, and I'll be seeking an alternative video doorbell system.

      Hi RedEd.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is to have your Ring Video Doorbell Wired capture all the correct motion events. The Ring Video Doorbell Wired was designed to capture motions based on your specifications to help keep your home secure. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the issue you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected in regards to motion detection. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. Here are a few tips to optimize the motion settings on your security camera:

      1. Adjust Motion Sensitivity: Ring devices can detect motion up to 30 feet with the Motion Sensitivity slider at the maximum level. If you turn Motion Sensitivity down, this range will be lower, decreasing false motion. If your device is missing motion, increase the Motion Sensitivity using the slider.
      2. Change the position of your Ring device: Adjust the position of your camera to improve the accuracy of motion detection.
      3. Turn on Smart Alerts: You can enable Smart Alerts on your doorbell or camera to improve motion accuracy in detecting people and other objects, including packages. To turn on Smart Alerts, tap the Motion Settings tile on the device’s page in the Ring app. A Ring Home Plan is required to use Smart Alerts.
      4. Change the Motion Frequency: Under Advanced Settings, tap Motion Frequency. You can adjust how often battery-powered devices check for motion. If your device is missing motion events, increase the Motion Frequency to Frequently (Shortest battery life—Motion detection always stays active) in the Ring app. If too much motion is being detected, change the frequency to Regularly (Medium battery life—Motion detection takes a short break after each motion alert) or Periodically (Maximum battery life—Motion detection takes a longer break after each alert).

We invite you to reach out to our community if any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Video Doorbell Wired. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other.

      Thank you,
      Amilia from Ring. Ring

This ring doorbell is just a great value. It does what you need it to do. Just be aware that after the month free trial you’ll have to pay for subscription to save recordings. I think its worth it. Camera is good quality.

I'm not really handy and I was able to add this to my house. Used the existing doorbell wiring and added an app to my phone. Plus a few other window and door sensors. Really pretty easy and works great.

While it is the basic Ring doorbell, it does work really well. Connected to my existing doorbell wiring easily. The only thibng you need to do is connect a jumper at the actual doorbell. The only downside is the existing doorbell no loner is functional and you either add a Ring chime or get notification through Alexa

This was purchased to be used at a salon. It was easy to install and paired with my phone easily. Notifications seem a little delayed but it could be my wifi service. I am pleased so far.

    Horrible connectivity

    Posted .

Product Gen 1 when battery powered has very weak wifi range. I have both 4G and 5G networks at home and connection is constantly lost even with router placed within 10 feet of my ring. Furthermore, the paid subscription to motion recording is suspect as many of the videos are not captured. Using the Ring app you will also find that connecting to your live feed is usually delayed so long that your guest/porch pirate is long gone before your phone connects to your Ring camera’s live feed. I would not recommend this product to anyone simply because in the event if an issue they will only receive another automated tech response suggesting you go to a community forum for answers. Shame on Ring for this. Ring should have a complete array of error tree and trouble shooting material for their tech support teams to properly assist its customers. As a customer, you are not getting paid and will not earn any Ring rewards for your feedback. Like many tech companies, Ring is hastily rolling out products without a proper battery of testing believing that a customer discovered issue can be magically fixed with another firmware update also created in haste. I wouldn’t be surprised if older products are clutched down through updates to drive customers into frustration to purchase new models. Sustainability at its best. Not interested in another dead end “brand response”. Thanks

Hi Mr. Dallis. This isn't the Ring experience we want your to have. It's important to note that the Doorbell Wired is not compatible with a 5GHz WiFi network, and only a 2.4GHz network. This could be a reason that you were having issues. You'll also want to make sure that you're using the correct WiFi channels for a Ring Device: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/4407014643732-How-to-Change-Router-Channels-. To test if your network has security settings in place, you can also temporarily connect to a WiFi hotspot to help determine what is happening. If you have any further questions or concerns, try browsing the Ring Community at https://community.ring.com/. As our first peer-to-peer forum, the Ring Community allows you to ask questions and interact with other neighbors to discuss your Ring devices. Best wishes, David with Ring. Ring

This works perfect - it actually has come in handy for other reasons too. I have a naughty neighbor who lets her dog run loose in the neighborhood. Literally just after I installed this Ring, I unexpectedly caught her dog on my Ring camera. That was all the proof that Animal Control needed in order to fine her. Anyway, so yea it works great - day or night. The only con I can think of is that because it's not the latest/greatest Ring model it doesn't properly hook up to your existing house doorbell. I mean you can hook it up... but you won't hear anything from your existing house doorbell. You'll need to buy a Ring chime if you want sound in your house.... otherwise you'll just have to accept receiving notifications via the Ring app on your phone.

Easy set up, no flaws. Ever since it was installed, it became a household necessity. Was able to dismiss solicitation from the comfort in my bedroom/ living room. I would highly recommend this product, especially during the holidays were porch pirates are are busy.

We love our Ring Doorbell - it's proven to be one of those items that you wonder why you didn't have one earlier. The doorbell was easy to install and the app pops up on your phone whenever there is someone at your door. Purchased this as a Black Friday Special.
