I love the thought of this product. Unfortunately, the wireless internet service is unstable, so it doesn't download the image in a timely way. I guess I have to make a change in my provider. A fiberoptic choice is not available in this area.

When I'm at home it works great. When I'm away from home... anywhere the app takes longer than usually to open the video part of it. Therefore if anyone rings the doorbell. They are gone before I see them or can answer. When I get home I can then watch the recorded video.

      Hello WaxAx,

First and foremost, we thank you for your business and the opportunity in serving your home security needs. Having peace of mind that your Ring Doorbell Wired has a solid connection is very important, as this ensures you are able to access video anytime day or night. We want to assure you that our Ring devices are designed to connect you to video in a timely manner, each and every time you need to access the camera.

It sounds like when you receive a notification, you open your Ring app to view the event, but are met with a blurry screen with a message that the app is having trouble connecting to the Ring device. Receiving this message means that there's a problem in the data transfer between your Ring device and the app. As a result, your Ring app is unable to display the video image from your Ring's camera. The three most common causes of this concern are the following:

-A poor connection between your mobile device and the internet.
-Slow internet upload and download speeds.
-A poor connection between your Ring device and your router.

The link below will provide a couple troubleshooting steps that may help determine why you are experiencing delays, and at times unable to connect to video:
      https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001499906-Ring-App-is-Having-Trouble-Connecting-to-the-Ring-Device-and-Showing-Video

In the meantime, please use our Rapid Ring app. This app was designed to facilitate a speedy response when answering notifications. You'll need to use your original Ring app for all the settings functions built into your Ring device, such as seeing past videos or adjusting motion settings. To download the Rapid Ring app, please go to the App Store (for iOS devices) or the Play Store (for Android devices) and search for “Rapid Ring”. Download and install the Rapid Ring app on your mobile device by following these directions: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028023571-Rapid-Ring-App-Information.

If the above steps don't resolve your concerns, please feel free to check out our community forum at https://community.ring.com/ for some additional tips and support! We look forward to hearing from you soon.

      Thank you,
      Alexis with Ring Ring

Purchased doorbell camera, two other cameras with lights, and extra batteries. Unfortunately this product constantly has issues. It only worked for the first two weeks and died the morning I went out of town (which was the whole purpose of getting it in the first place). The electrical connection on the doorbell went out a week after installation and I can’t figure out the issue. My doorbell has always worked before ring was installed. The other two cameras I purchased for the driveway are running out of battery at least weekly (good luck going on a trip for more than two weeks). It’s a weekly job to keep the camera batteries going. It’s not that cold and the batteries die in less than two weeks. After spending over $500 in cameras and extra batteries, none of them work. It’s more laborious to try and keep them going. Not a good product until the fix the battery life issue.

      Hi TALA.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring devices so that you can have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home, especially if you are away for long periods of time. We are here today to provide you with education to assist you in finding the best solution for your home’s environment.

It sounds like your device's batteries are draining quickly. The batteries in Ring devices are designed to go months between charges under normal conditions. However, real battery life is dependent on a number of factors, such as local weather, the number of events captured, and the frequency of activation.

You can go to Power Settings in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery.

To access Power Settings, open the Ring app:

Tap the three lines on the top left.
      Tap Devices
Tap the individual device (doorbell or security camera) you want to check.
      Tap the Power Settings tile.
You can check your Battery Status:

      Battery Level percentage
      Featured Power Usage
Tap the small arrow to the right of the feature name.
To navigate back to the main screen, tap the < sign on the top left.

      You can check:
      Snapshot Capture
      Motion Frequency
      Advanced Motion Detection
      Video Recording Length

      Hi user853517.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. The features and technology provided by the Ring Video Doorbell Wired are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.

It sounds like there was some confusion regarding the abilities of the Ring Video Doorbell Wired. The Ring Video Doorbell Wired requires an existing doorbell as a power supply but does not sound your existing chime. To hear audio alerts in your home, you can pair it with a Ring Chime or compatible Alexa device. If you do not have a Ring Chime, you can connect your Ring device to your existing Alexa-enabled device by following these steps:

First, you’ll need to download the Alexa app on your mobile device or tablet. Get the Alexa app from the Apple App Store (iOS devices) or the Google Play Store (Android devices).

You may also need to update your mobile device's operating system.

If you already have the Ring app, you'll need to ensure you have the latest version.

Next, follow these steps to add Ring as a skill in the Alexa app:

Open the Alexa app and go to More.
      Tap Skills & Games
Tap the Search icon, enter Ring, then select it from the results.
Type Ring into the search field
      Tap Ring (first result)
      Tap Enable to Use
Sign in with your Ring account details to link your Ring and Amazon accounts.
Tap Enable Skill and Link Accounts.
If your account is already linked, tap Enable Skill
Once the Skill is enabled, tap Discover Devices
Alexa will be enabled on all of your Ring devices. To disable Alexa from a particular device, tap Forget next to the device name
Note: If your Ring devices do not appear after you tap Discover Devices, you can say, “Alexa, discover my devices,” or tap the Devices icon at the bottom right corner of the Alexa app.

Don't buy Ring Doorbell. Doesn't work Known defect

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Don’t buy Ring Doorbell. This product has known flaws by the company, and they refuse to do anything to fix the product. Do not buy Ring Doorbell if you live in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Parts of New York, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Alaska, All Canada, Upper Illinois, Ohio, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and anywhere else in the world where the temperature gets cold. 10 Degree or colder and Ring Doorbell will not work. I called Ring Doorbell and they said their batteries do not work in the cold and they refuse to do anything to address the problem. They tell you your just out of luck wait until the temperature warms up and the Ring Doorbell should work again. Also, the battery should charge when wired to your old doorbell, but it doesn’t. Ring doorbell says you must bring the battery inside and charge the battery because it won’t charge if hard wired to your existing doorbell. What a poorly designed product. Ring Doorbell should be held accountable for selling a known defective and poor product that they know will not work if it gets cold. They should not be allowed to sell the product in any of the states listed above since they know the product will not work when it gets cold. Ring Doorbell are criminals and need to be held accountable for selling products that they know will not work.
