Rocketfish - 7 outlet/1-USB/1-USB-c 2160 Surge Protector is really great. I love the quality and functionality of this surge protector. Nice and slim and it mounts on the wall very easily. Enough plugs to plug in all my items for my computer, printer, speakers, light, etc. Packaging was really good. I was very pleased that the surge protector was protected in shipment with great packaging. Once I opened the package and removed the twist tie from the cord of the product and plugged it into the wall socket. I then plugged in my laptop charger, printer, speakers and my desk lamp. Once everything was plugged in, I turned on the strip and everything powered on. I then plugged my USB-C plug for my phone and my USB-A for my headset and it all charged flawlessly. I like the black quality plastic of this surge protector. Blends in with my desk and was able to tuck the cord in a very discretionary way. The strip never got hot and never blew with all of the devices plugged in and charging. Looks great and highly recommend anyone who needs a solid great Surge Protector looks and works great.

Sturdy construction, outlets face a better orientation (great for anyone cursed with giant, honking AC adapters), USB-C and USB-A ports for additional charging options - this is an excellent surge protector. All ports and outlets maintain consistent current, too - you won't find any "dead ports," oem outlets that mysteriously don't carry the proper voltage, on this strip. The strip is also a decent size, without being too large; I can use this in my main television stand / cabinet without any trouble, and I only use a 55" TV. The only complaint I have is with the power on/off switch. When our power cuts, because some smart devices turn themselves on without being asked, I turn off the power strip as well until power is restored. This is easier to do with switches that are both differently colored than the surge protector body and that are prominently features on the top of the device. This switch felt a bit hidden and blends in with the surge protector, so I have to rummage around for it. This is a very minor gripe, though. I haven't withstood an actual electric outage with the surge protector yet, but Rocketfish is a good brand and there's nothing about the construction or build of this strip that gives me any concern. I'm confident this will protect my TV/streamer/game system setup. Don't skimp on your surge protector; this model is well worth your money.

I keep everything of importance connected to a power surge. Not that I've ever had a problem and needed them. It's the level of insurance that I want. The Rocketfish Surge Protector is a great addition to keeping devices safe. What I enjoyed the most was the long cord length. You have more cord to work with the 6-foot length. You get a total of 7 outlets (6 standard and 1 wide space outlet) which will cover most needs. You also get one USB-C 20W and one USB-A 17W charge outlet. The last two outlets will charge smaller devices like phones, tablets, accessories, etc. I do wish there was one more USB-A port. Most people have a lot of USB devices so the extra one would help. It also has a 2160 Joules rating. So it can take a full gaming setup (a powerful one at that) and still offer plenty of protection. Overall, this is a good Surge Protector. It's basic Yes, but a Surge Protector is meant to be. So if you want to protect your gear from power surges and power spikes. This is the item to do so.

    Power Strip with USB-C & USB-A

Another power stirp in the $40 list price range or a tad less when on sale. It is a minor upgrade from Rockfish’s similar 9-year-old model with one of the USB-A’s being replaced with a USB-C. Also, the Joules Surge Protector rating is increased around 3% from 2,100 to 2,160 along with the Connected Equipment Guarantee doubling from $100k to $200k, while maintaining the same MSRP. Yes, these devices come in handy to extend power to a multitude of devices (up to 7), and the surge protection is certainly a plus, and worth the price of admission. But recognize if/when there is a power surge that surpasses its rating, it will render this device functionality useless, and it should be replaced. It will have done its job, sacrificing itself, to save your equipment. A noble death; thank you in advance! I typically rely on higher end battery backup UPS devices for both surge protection, along with supplying temporary power, keeping electric equipment active during a momentary or short-term power outage. Note that these “strip outlet” devices do provide a somewhat valuable purpose, but you must weigh the cost versus its additional features. When you don’t require battery backup, then these power strips could be a cost-effective “peace of mind” solution. Now for my current use, this “power strip” is used to extent an AC outlet under one of our family-room end tables suppling AC to a few devices with the actual quantity varying depending the holidays. (Basically, it just replaced an extension cord.) For my use, the outstanding feature is the side mounting male AC wall plug, along with the additional AC outlets. Yeah, the blue lights are nice and a step up from typical red-dot-led indicators. And the USB outlets could be a plus, but only if you require them intending to replace existing USB wall warts. Final note, recognize the USB’s will consume AC power 24/7 even when not being used. Therefore, if you don’t need a power extension strip with USB outputs, then look elsewhere. RATING: A solid 3-Stars, 4-Stars when on sale. .

The reason that you buy a surge protector is to make sure that your precious devices are not damaged by power surges. The protection is presumably good, since it includes a $200,000 warranty if your devices are damaged during a surge event. However, the back of the box stated that the RocketFish web site has details about the “fine print” of the device warranty, and following that URL just led to the Best Buy home page. I was unable to find the details of the warranty. This does not mean that the details are not there, but they are not in an obvious location. Power strips are notorious for having terms and conditions on the warranty that means that it can be hard to get paid if your equipment is damaged, and without being able to see the details, I cannot even guess how easy or hard the procedure might be. So, let’s forget the issue of the device warranty, and go on to the power strip itself. The overall impression is that this is solid for the price. It features indicators that show that the strip is both grounded and protected. This strip claims a 2,160 joule surge rating, along with an EMI/RFI filter. I would presume this to be accurate, but as the device is secured with screws using a triangular head, I could not take the back off to see what type of components are used for the protection. There is an on/off switch on the side of the unit, which is unusual as such switches are usually on the face. Right below the indicators are a pair of USB-A (12W) and USB-C (20W) ports, which are a very nice touch. I tested the USB-C port, and found that it was easily able to deliver almost its entire rated 20W, yielding just over 19W, with a voltage of nearly 9V and a current of 2.13A. This is a good performance. However, this is also its limit, and 12V is the maximum that it will output. There is no option for a 20V output, nor would I expect one. But this should be sufficient to charge any device smaller than a laptop. The USB-A port gives a rock-solid 5V, but I don’t have any devices using this standard that takes more than 1A, so I could not test past 5W. Taking a look at the rest of the power strip, I found that there does not seem to be any sort of circuit breaker installed, as I would have expected. I do not consider this to be a major disadvantage, but it is somewhat unusual, so I thought that it should be mentioned. The only other thing of note is the layout of the power jacks. There are six closely-spaced jacks that are rotated 90 degrees, and a finally 7th jack with some spacing. Since there is only one jack with space around it, you will only be able to use one “wall wart” power adapter without blocking other outlets. But given that this is a narrow single-row power strip, I would not have expected anything else. The only other thing to mention is that there are only two screw mounting holes on the back, and those are along the top of the unit (when placed horizontally against the wall so that the ground hole of the jack is below the two blades. I am used to screw holes being centered, so I found this to be a bit odd. Not bad, just unusual. This actually makes sense if you intend to mount it horizontally.

It can be wall-mounted if you are so inclined. I like that it’s black so it blends into the background. It lights up with the words “protected” and “grounded” when turned on so that you know it’s working to keep your electronics safe from surges and whatnot. It has a nice long six-foot cord that’s thick and sturdy, and a good flat plug so that it doesn’t stick out of the wall and take up space. The one USB-C port is 20W so it can recharge your smartphones and tablets fast. I appreciate the accompanying 12W USB-A port for those pesky electronics I have that are still on that older standard. The only caveat I would point out is that the six outlets in a row are of the typical power strip kind in that they are placed close together in a row, so that it will not fit a lot of the typical bulky power adapter plugs, such as the ones that come with many laptops, tablets, game consoles, and such. The only way it will fit six plugs in a row is if you are plugging in the “regular” sized plugs and no other kind. There is a seventh outlet that is spaced farther away from the rest where you can fit a bulkier plug, but that’s the only one.

    Disappointing USB-C port performance

The Rocketfish 7 Outlet Surge Protector is priced reasonably, and its slim form factor allows it to be tucked neatly into tight spaces. The downside of the form factor is that the ratio of 6 tightly grouped outlets to 1 generously spaced outlet (to accommodate a wall-wart power adapter) is terrible. That doesn’t come close to matching the ratio of AC cord types in my home, nor–I imagine–most American homes. The power supply seemed steady and fine from the AC outlets, but the review window was short (under a week). The USB-A port worked fine for the devices I tested it on. The USB-C port offered less than stellar results. It charged my Pixel phone fine, but the voltage wasn’t enough to trigger fast charging mode. My Pixelbook warned that the voltage was low enough that charging may not occur while it’s powered on. The official charging cradle for my Pixel Watch would not charge the watch at all when plugged into this power strip, whereas plugging it into a USB-C port on my laptop or desktop PCs works fine.
