Awesome laptop for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price this laptop is great. It's fast and the screen resolution is great with great color for those that love editing pictures. It also feels very high quality when you hold it almost like a macbook feels nice and solid. So no complaints in my part (maybe the camera in it could be better but I don't use it at all so).

Great laptop for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got mine on sale for around $400 (new) at Best Buy a few months ago. Since then, I've discovered that while it doesn't run as fast as my Asus that had 12 GB of RAM (obviously), that it still gets the job done. I'm able to run Photoshop, Word, Excel, and Chrome at the same time (with at least 10 tabs open in Chrome, 3 Word docs, and several Excel files). There's a bit of drag when running that much at once, but it's not a big deal. Compared to a Chromebook I use as backup, this computer is HEAVEN. If you need something mostly for working online or in Office, then this laptop will be more than sufficient for your needs. If you're a heavy Photoshop user, I'm not sure how fast it will run with multiple brush sets installed since I've only run it without the extras. I would highly recommend getting the Best Buy Accidental Drop warranty AND the warranty that will cover software issues (especially since Windows 10 is a nightmare and their updates tend to screw stuff up). But I'd recommend both those warranties on any computer you purchase.

Great & Disappointing At The Same Time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been searching for a new laptop for a long time. I wanted something better then the ones I would buy cheap because I couldn't get a better one. Finally had a chance to. I love all my Samsung electronics, phone, stereo earphones etc. So when I saw this I knew I wanted it. It runs some of my editing programs better then my past laptops. A ton of storage so I don't need to tote my external MyDrive around. My biggest and most disappointing issue it is, I can't use the volume keys up, down or mute if the FN Lock key s ON. When it is ON I can't use the voume but I can use the '0' key on the numeric pad. If the FN Lock is OFF I can use the volume buttons but cannot use the '0' won't work. It's totally annoying. I called Samsung support and they said they never heard of such an issue. They recommended going to Best Buy to talk to them or exchange it. I talked to Geek Squad and they said it was normal for the newer laptops to be like that because the FN Keys are used for some many things. I thought it weird but trusted them. I decided to look at the floor model but it was sold out. I tried other various priced laptops and even more expensive ones and none did that. SO I drove an hour to another Best Buy and tried their same model floor model and guess what, I could use volume keys and 0 without having to constantly push the FN key. So I kind of feel a little duped on it but now I can't do anything about it because my return time is over. My line of work I have audio going at the same time as using my number pad.

Entry Level Notebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely no support from Samsung. Firstly, by that I mean this product is no longer listed on the Samsung Support site which means all the technical information needed is not available beyond what is included in the manual which is installed on the hard drive. The specifications page of that manual is a joke. Secondly, misinformation from support chat is the order of the day. I have no idea their source for technical information however information recived from them is in conflict with information gathered elsewhere which proved to be true. This includes technical descriptions of the onboard memory related to purchasing and installing a memory upgrade and determining the specifications of the hard drive for the same purpose. In any case opening the case of the computer would be the only way to determine the information for sure and that is better left to a technician for the average user. Chat support proved to be worthless so "fend for yourself" would be the only option left. Thirdly, There are two methods provided to restore the computer to a factory state. Windows Recovery and Samsung Recovery. The first installs Windows without the Samsung system and the second includes the factory state system. Both work as intended however there is no explanation of this procedure as to which to chose should the necessity to restore the computer arise. Forget Samsung technical support chat. They want you to buy a USB drive for reinstallation. Not happening. Lastly, although I could go on as to the failings, there is only one gigabyte of graphic memory available and the graphics chip is integrated on the board. It cannot be upgraded. It is inadequate for graphics intensive programs. Gaming? Anything beyond the least graphic intensive games or programs is beyond the capabilities of this device. Refer to the above review by Mr Fox for further enlightenment. So why am I keeping this machine knowing what I know? My purchase was "Open box" and this device is replacing an eleven year old Toshiba Satelite laptop which, although it still works using Linux Mint, I needed a tie-in with the Windows environment and to improve on portability. In other words the price was right. Minimal use pretty much guarantees service over the long run of time resulting in savings for me. My recommendation? Stay away from this unit largely based upon the lack of support. The aluminum case and lid is a plus to avoid light incidental damage and as a entry level purchase for a student/child or for someone desirous of Internet activities including movies coupled with light computer work this unit would suffice. But by and large, once again, I advise putting your money into the purchase of another brand. You have been warned.

DO NOT BUY (No longer supported)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are highly tech-savy and don't mind struggling with drivers, thermal throttling, and lack of online support, then sure, this could be possibly worth it USED for a cheaper price. I bought this laptop at $400 barely used, and it is barely worth it. Samsung does not even list this laptop in their website at all, even for driver support. The ONLY way to get "official" drivers is to download Samsung's driver update tool, which is probably not updated. AMD really dropped the ball with their Ryzen mobile processors which had a lot of potential. It is a good quad-core processor with graphics that had again, a lot of potential. However, the graphics processor thermal throttles HEAVILY. The only way it can give you somewhat acceptable performance is using liquid metal instead of the thermal paste included (which has its own risks). And even more than that, AMD (and laptop manufacturers) have not updated the drivers for their mobile Ryzen lineup which are a couple of versions outdated. You can force install the latest Adenalin drivers, which do greatly increase performance but also have their own bugs with screen brightness and others. It is nice to have a SATA M.2 slot for an SSD addition, but that is about the only redeeming feature of this laptop. If you are unaware or do not understand half of the things I mentioned, do not bother considering this laptop at all. Just don't.

Hoping for much better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for an AMD Ryzen mobile with a better screen than what is out there so far. Samsung laptop reviews have mostly had good reviews on the displays in the past. Not this one. It had very bad backlight bleeding in the one corner and general bleeding down one side. It has a cheap Nanjing CEC Panda panel, HW id NCP000D. I also opened it up and found there are no M.2 slots, one memory slot with 4GB soldered and the WiFi is soldered. The only upgrades possible would be memory to 12GB and a 7mm SSD. It has a lot of empty space inside and a tiny heat sink with a small heat pipe. Oversized fan that was quiet. I have to say the keyboard is nice. Maybe upcoming Notebook 5 with the i7 and Mx150 will have better components. Samsung had a huge miss with this one. This should be a $300-$400 dollar laptop.

System update breaks device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this computer instead of one that cost only 100 dollars more to save a bit of money, only to find out it’s horrible. It has no upgradeable ram, very low battery life, and tons of keyboard and display flex. The device recently got a bios update from Samsung which was supposed to improve performance, but has instead DROPPED my performance, and caused programs to randomly crash and the display to randomly go black. Worst of all, there’s. NO warranty so instead of the nobodies graphics card, cpu with almost double the speed, and 16gb of upgradeable ram I COULD have gotten I’m left with this garbage fire excuse of a laptop that I can’t afford to replace. Save yourself the trouble and get an msi or a dell instead.

Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Possibly the worst computer I have ever bought! Slower that an old Lenovo with an Intel3. I went from start up to browsing twice as fast with my old one than this one! I had heard good reviews on the AMD Ryzen5 so I went with it, big mistake. Never again Intel so much better even the older generation!!!
