Very convenient things it can do
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is actually quite amazing. I use for things like automating my outside lights at dusk and dawn. I have a motion sensor setup so I know when someone is at my porch while I'm in the basement and can't hear the bell. I also have sensors on the garage doors that let me know if they were accidentally left open. I plan to add some cameras next. Overall I'm very pleased with what I have been able to do with this product. The reason I took a star away is because initial set up seemed a little difficult to me. Some new "Things" are found by the SmartThings app almost right away, some others took a bit longer to find. The Smart Plug that came with the unit was very difficult to get connected for some reason. I almost returned it. Also, the app is not very easy to figure out as far as setting up your automations. Many people will probably need to get help to figure out the apps features. Once you figure it out though, it's a breeze and a wonderful experience.

Home Automation made easy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After much research I finally pulled the trigger on my home automation project and I was not disappointed. In an effort to save on monthly service fees associated with my TWC Intelligent Home security system I decided to go with the Smart Things Home Monitoring Kit. The system is very easy to setup and I was up and running within 20 minutes. Most complaints I read from reviewers was they could not get the system up and running. I did not find that to be the case. Since my purchase I have bought additional "things" to add to my system. I highly recommend Smart Things, but make sure you follow all the step to get the system successfully.

Great monitoring System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a rather costly product that I had high hopes for, and it turned out well. It works nicely. Also bought an arrival sensor for an employee who works at our home. So now when the motion sensor goes off I know that it was triggered by the employee and not an unwanted guest. The hub senses my iPhone 6 wonderfully and turns the light on and off when I come and go. The light is plugged into the smart plug that came with the kit. The multipurpose sensors are placed on entry doors to our home, and they work great and also include temperature readings. My boyfriend's android phone is not accurate at all with telling the hub when it is present or not. But the hub and gadgets work great.

Good product at first...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using this system over a year now and all the battery life needs to be replaced one by one. I have 12 senors from doors to motion. The battery life will never be at zero or will it notify you that the battery is low. Once the battery life becomes really low, the device will start triggering false notifications. That is when you know you will have to replace it. You will have to replace it with a Panasonic or Duracell 2450 it says on the senor itself. I went ahead and bought sleeves of Duracell batteries, replacing the first few senors with fresh unexpired batteries but after replacing them with the fresh batteries I still receive false notifications. My other half of the sensors started to die out one by one so I bought all Panasonic batteries for them and they are starting to either give false notification or starts die again. I am beginning to think that it's a problem with the sensor itself.

Really simple and great set to start with
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this set with additional smartthing sensors and I am delighted by my purchase. The installation is simple regarding the hub. Now the smartthings are sometimes more difficult to setup if you have the bad idea to pull-up the battery isolation flex before you went to the marketplace and choose add a new thing. So my advice is: really follow the procedure. My home is now totally automated and I even added a Honeywell thermostat that works nicely with it. The radio coverage of the hub is really good and covers my house entirely.

Great basic home security
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this system a few weeks ago and it's been working flawlessly. The kit comes with two multipurpose sensors, a WiFi smartplug and a motion sensor. So far the batteries in all the door (multipurpose) sensors are still at 100%. The multiuse sensors not only notify you when a door or window is open (when your system is armed), but it also notifies you when someone is knocking on the door as well as the temperature. The WiFi smartplug can integrate with the motion sensor... say if motion is detected in the room (which will also notify you of an intrusion if the system is armed) it can turn on a lamp that is plugged into your smart plug. There are other "things" that can be added to this system, such as a water sensor... great for anywhere you have leak concerns. This unit can also integrate with the Echo "Alexa" and the Phillips Hub. I am very happy with my purchase and more at ease knowing my home is secured.

Great Starter Kit for Home Automation

Great home automation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This smart home hub is now the industry's standard that other companies develop for. It works amazingly well and with a huge variety of products. You don't have to be tech geek to set it up and once set up it requires almost no monitoring. I like it so much I have a system at home and another in a fitness center I to automate everything and create security. You will invest quite a bit in add on's but it's flexibility is incredible.

Okay, but flawed app with unreliable alarm status
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've spent close to $3000 on home automation products and have made SmartThings the hub for all of them. All and all I have 60 or devices consisting of sensors, motion detectors, key fobs, Philips Hue, door locks, thermostats, glass break detectors, smoke detectors, Sonos speakers, etc. I chose SmartThings based on the three things... 1) Customer reviews 2) Open sourced (works with just about any Zigbee/Zwave device) 3) Great support community. The problem that I have is with the reliability of the Smart Home Monitor which is the app used to manage the alarm system function. It is simply unreliable. The iOS app either will not allow you to enable/disable alarm system, or it will not reflect the true status of the system. After pushing one of the app buttons (Away, Stay, Disarm) the you're just presented with a spinning circle and are left wondering whether or not the command went through (see photo). Also, the app is confusing. More emphasis should be placed on making sure that things "just work" and on the app UI. If these were fixed I would bump my rating to a five star.
