Excellent Smart Home Solution
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system works well with a variety of reasonably priced options. I did find a bug (known issue) with the mobile app and the Samsung Galaxy phone but that is really the only problem. I was hoping for a little longer range on the motion detectors but I think that overall the system performs very well for the price. I like the ease of use and the wide range of partners.

A very good DIY wireless security system...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system is easy to configure with simple, thorough instructions, very good and prompt tech support and is highly expandable with add-on modules from the same brand as well as many others. I've used a number of other non-Samsung modules with it and they all seem to be working very well.

The App is Confusing.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use it to connect some of my smart home products work with Google Home. The motion sensor and multipurpose sensor are much better than my Insteon motion sensor. The App homepage is really confusing. There is no way to close the security camera and leak setting option on the App homepage.

Pretty good for free service.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been wanting something decent, without having to pay a monthly subscription. When first linking the power doorlock, and switches around the house, there was a bit or retrying to get them to connect. After connecting, everything has worked flawlessly. The accessories that come with this kit aren't the greatest, and we don't use them. However, other fixtures that we've purchased are fanastic with this hub. Pretty awesome pulling into the driveway at night and having the outdoor lights turn on and the front door unlocking automatically.

Battery Problems
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another Samsung product with battery issues. I purchased a smart things hub 2 months ago. A few days ago I get an email saying the new firmware will fix an issue with the batteries. Then yesterday I get another email saying Samsung might replace the batteries or offer a website discount. I never got an email saying I NEED to check the batteries or there IS an issue. I opened my hub and the batteries have white corrosion all over. I contacted smart things support and they sent me to a website that says batteries should be checked every year. My hub is 2 months old and I wonder if I can trust it. After I continued to question the issue I was offered a replacement hub but there is no way to move all the devices and smart rules to the replacement hub. That's hours of work to set up a new hub.

Simple & Powerful Home Automation Kit
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this for my new home. I'm a techy guy and love playing with tech gadgets. I always buy my things after extensive research. Its been 2 months since i have purchased the smartthings. The bundle package is very good and value for money. I primarily use it for automation of my Hue & Lifx lights, thermostat and for home security. The sensors which comes with this kit works perfectly for my needs. My kids love the automation with the lights. The biggest advantage of this is it supports multiple devices from various manufactures. The options of automation are endless and fun to play with it if you are tech lover. I'm planning to buy some more motion sensor to automate my kids room and water leak sensor to monitor water leakage. Few features like Text to Speech is not working as advertised. Occasionally i get some false alarms with the door sensors. The smartthings community is a great place to learn so many things about this device. There are many community development apps which can be added to your device through IDE and start using it. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Works well, but not the most intuitive UI
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The concept behind SmartThings is excellent. The solution works well, and I've already purchased several devices from varied manufacturers and all connect and operate as expected. Set-up was fast and easy. However, the User interface is not all that intuitive. Things that you would expect to be able to easily access are quite hidden away, and I find that it take some luck to find certain functionality. I also had to do a fair bit of independent research online to figure out how the SmartApps play into the equation, an how to tie things together. With some of this knowledge, it's really a very powerful, yet affordable system. BUT, if you aren't willing to do a little digging to figure things out, you'll only get the basic functionality out of it. Additionally, I'm finding that certain functionality seems to disable itself for no apparent reason (push notifications of events, etc) and resetting it up is a bit troublesome. I've no problem recommending this, but users should expect that this is still a bit of a "lego kit" without great instructions. If I was Samsung, I'd invest in a User Experience designer for the app and take another swing at that piece.

Easy to set up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system is so easy to set up! You will need to set it up and use it for awhile to understand what additional items you want to use with it. It's compatible with many items to secure and monitor your home. The automation is great, but it takes a while and some trial and error to set it up the way you want it.

Q: QuestionHas anyone tried to pair this with devices from the Lowes IRIS system that has abandoned us with their Gen 2 hub.
Asked by Ken.
- A:Answer Hi Ken, Ellen with SmartThings support here. The first generation of the Lowes IRIS sensors use a proprietary Zigbee signal and won't work with SmartThings. Though the later generations of the Lowes IRIS sensors aren't officially supported to work with SmartThings they use standard Zigbee same as the SmartThings Hub and some members of our community have been able to use them successfully. If you don't mind doing some tinkering to get things working you may still be able to use them with SmartThings. It's one of the great things about our open platform! I highly recommend checking out our Community if you're not already a member and would like some more information. https://community.smartthings.com/
