This system is easy to configure with simple, thorough instructions, very good and prompt tech support and is highly expandable with add-on modules from the same brand as well as many others. I've used a number of other non-Samsung modules with it and they all seem to be working very well.

Been wanting something decent, without having to pay a monthly subscription. When first linking the power doorlock, and switches around the house, there was a bit or retrying to get them to connect. After connecting, everything has worked flawlessly. The accessories that come with this kit aren't the greatest, and we don't use them. However, other fixtures that we've purchased are fanastic with this hub. Pretty awesome pulling into the driveway at night and having the outdoor lights turn on and the front door unlocking automatically.

This system works well with a variety of reasonably priced options. I did find a bug (known issue) with the mobile app and the Samsung Galaxy phone but that is really the only problem. I was hoping for a little longer range on the motion detectors but I think that overall the system performs very well for the price. I like the ease of use and the wide range of partners.

I use it to connect some of my smart home products work with Google Home. The motion sensor and multipurpose sensor are much better than my Insteon motion sensor. The App homepage is really confusing. There is no way to close the security camera and leak setting option on the App homepage.

Another Samsung product with battery issues. I purchased a smart things hub 2 months ago. A few days ago I get an email saying the new firmware will fix an issue with the batteries. Then yesterday I get another email saying Samsung might replace the batteries or offer a website discount. I never got an email saying I NEED to check the batteries or there IS an issue. I opened my hub and the batteries have white corrosion all over. I contacted smart things support and they sent me to a website that says batteries should be checked every year. My hub is 2 months old and I wonder if I can trust it. After I continued to question the issue I was offered a replacement hub but there is no way to move all the devices and smart rules to the replacement hub. That's hours of work to set up a new hub.

For those looking to start creating their smart home or a security system, I'd say this is a good option. I would say to be wary though as many people online mentioned the range limitation of the motion sensor not being the 20-25 feet I believe is mentioned. On trying it I did notice from the estimate it didn't reach that range but for me, it isn't much of an issue as I have a small home and that range is a bit beyond of what a wall to wall of a room for me would be. Other than the motion the sensors for Door/windows worked nice and respond well and have yet to get any difficulties with them. The smart hub has a nice design and is very lightweight. THERE IS A BATTERY BACKUP! That was a question I never got answered prior to my purchase and was ecstatic on seeing it has backup batteries (AA). The power outlet was very nice as well but definitely broke my heart when I couldn't use it on my wall switch that has USB outlets between the power sockets because I couldn't use any USB charging while it was plugged due to the size. There are slimmer ones that have been released that I would recommend, but for starters, this works fine. The box shipping could use a slight help as some pieces come out of their holdings and move around shipping. Installation is so easy I ended up reading instructions more to make sure my belief of how to setup was correct and looking for any features I may have missed. I like how they included double-sided tape or screws for depending on how you want to mount it to the walls. The app is in need of some organization in my opinion but does offer nice features, while it does miss on some. For example, when the alarm goes off on your phone it sounds off based on phone notification alerts, which unless you memorize which one is the one for smart-home, can be dismissed without realizing. Also if you are looking to add a monitored system for burglar also this works well with Scout, so there is also that option instead of self-maintained.

I've been happy with the purchase so far. The system was fairly easy to set up and get operational. The install of the sensors included with the kit was straightforward. It also provides connectivity with many non-Samsung based products. I connected an AEOTEC Siren to it without a problem. The SmartThings app could be improved, but it is not as bad as other reviews have indicated. Overall, I've been pleased with the product

The Samsung Smartthings Home Monitoring Kit was very easy to set up. Everything comes nicely packaged, and setup is pretty self explanatory, but they do provide instructions in case you get stuck. Once set up, it has worked flawless. It does everything I wanted it to do. I do plan on expanding and buying more home automation devices to add to my Smartthings hub. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to get started in home automation.

I got the Sammy Smart Home free for purchasing a Sammy washer and dryer. Out of the box the set up is straight forward, The devices are discovered in a matter of seconds and stay connected. However, I have different smart items in my home and Samsung will not work with them. Samsung must be in bed with these "other" companies for some reason. I can't use my Anker camera or my Foscam camera. I can't connect to my D-Link light switches. I also can't connect to my Guardian home protection with this either. It does have tons of other items and the Samsung "preferred" items, but most those are junk and you can get better out there all day long. I would rather have something that connects to every device and it can't be that hard to do! I hope Sammy goes back to the drawing board on this! Do yourself a favor if you truly want this. RESEARCH IT! If you are going to put together a smart home make sure you have items that will work with the control center that Samsung gives you,

Great starting kit for home automation

This kit is the perfect starting kit to begin automating your home. You get a hub, a motion sensor, an outlet and 2 regular sensors in the kit. The instructions are simple to follow for installation and setup. The app took a bit of time to find where everything is but it has everything you would need. You can quickly connect devices to your hub and the app can see them instantly once they connect, and if you are interested in purchasing more devices you can see what the hub is compatible with for every type of device. You can set rules that flawlessly work, and run them manually, at a set time or once an action occurs, like you return home from work. I have an echo dot and I use Alexa to turn the light on and off that's plugged into the outlet. You can use the Smart Home monitor in the app to arm your house whether you are home or away and receive alerts when a sensor is triggered if they are on doors or windows. I would highly recommend the Samsung hub to anyone wanting to have any amount of home automation.

So far so good until SmartThings upgrade it's software. I was notified of its upgrade but the system didn't come back online on its own as it requires reboot. I was unhappy because I was traveling when it happened and I was counting on it to monitor my home while I was away. I was not able to monitor my home while I was away until I perform the reset my self. I consider this method of SmartThings to be wrong as it failed its purpose. I should have asked an option to permit the upgrade than autonomously performing the upgrade without my control. I own this equipment, nobody should do anything on it without my permission. One of the very reason of my purchase is to monitor my home security while I am away so it should be reliable when I am away.

This is the kit I chose to get started with a Smarthome. The main focus I have for now is to automate a lot of the lighting in my large home. I chose this over other hubs because of good reviews on a cross the Internet and the fact that it works smoothly with so many other light bulb choices. Many of the other hubs only worked with more expensive options. The only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is because some accessories I am interested in don't work with it yet and my Amazon Echo can't control some of the devices via the Smarthings hub. Both of these I am confident will be ironed out eventually as their customer service is very responsive in my experience thus far.

I like how this system alerts you via text and with a camera it's easy to see what has triggered the motion sensor. I would have given this item a higher score except for the hub going down the other night after 2 weeks with no problem. In my case I was around home and could reset the hub when I got back. This is my issue with the product, no way to reset if your on vacation and far away. You have to push the reset manually on the back of the hud, Kinda defeats the need for the equipment. I was alerted by the company that they had some sort of glitch, when I voice my concern via e-mail, they did respond with a sorry and s promise to get back to me when they were done dealing with all their models. For now I'm going to say I wouldn't recommend this product until I here from them as to a resolution to this issue.

The SmartThings Home Monitoring Starter Kit gives buyers an excellent starting place with the basics. It includes; 1 - SmartThings Bridge 1 - Plug Outlet 2 - Multi-sensor/Door Sensors 1 - Motion Sensor The bridge is Z Wave and ZigBee compatible, so it communicates with a wide variety of home automation products (various sensors, controls, lights, remotes, cameras, sirens, locks etc.). Basically one bridge to rule them all. The multi-sensor modules can be used as "open/close" sensors for doors or windows, but can also be triggered by vibration (intrusion detection) caused by breaking glass or someone knocking. In addition to the above, they can be configured as garage door sensors, reporting back on the position of conventional panel garage doors. The motion sensors are small an unobtrusive, about the size of a square tin of breath mints. Both the multi-sensor and motion sensors have integrated temperature sensors which can report back temps around the house for triggering heating, cooling, or alert the property owner to possible failing environmental systems. I suspect they could also play a role in zone heating/cooling for larger household systems, or the interesting "Smart-vents" that can be added throughout the house. All of the above are powered by standard CR2450 coin-style lithium cells, which should last many months and may be bought in bulk through online resellers. The wall-plug is a quick and easy way to add smart/remote control to non-smart lights or appliances. I used mine to turn on the Christmas tree lights every day at sunset, and off again, at predetermined times depending upon the day of the week. All of the above ties nicely into smart home assistants such as Google Home, or Amazon Echo. I continue to tweak and expand the system. It has been integrated into my Philips Hue lighting system, my Logitech Harmony remote control system, and most recently, a GoControl Z Wave garage door opener module. I can check the status, open & close the garage door from anywhere with internet connectivity, or totally geek out and say something such as "Open the pod bay door". There are many such Z Wave systems, but this starter kit is an excellent starting place. It sells at between $200-$250. I scored one at only $150 on a black Friday sale.

I have had home automation via X10 and Insteon for many years and have most lights, thermostats, etc. automated. The Insteon devices were often hard to link and sync into routines, and the Insteon hub app is not very good. I decided to switch to SmartThings and am very happy I made the switch. Given it is Z-Wave and Zigbee compatible you have many options for devices and sensors. The open source nature where users are able to write device handlers and such makes it even better. Using the COR app you can then automate any routine based on any conditions you can think of .... the options are really endless. So far the SmartThings hub and devices have met expectations and I am glad to have made the switch from Insteon.

I purchased this for my new home. I'm a techy guy and love playing with tech gadgets. I always buy my things after extensive research. Its been 2 months since i have purchased the smartthings. The bundle package is very good and value for money. I primarily use it for automation of my Hue & Lifx lights, thermostat and for home security. The sensors which comes with this kit works perfectly for my needs. My kids love the automation with the lights. The biggest advantage of this is it supports multiple devices from various manufactures. The options of automation are endless and fun to play with it if you are tech lover. I'm planning to buy some more motion sensor to automate my kids room and water leak sensor to monitor water leakage. Few features like Text to Speech is not working as advertised. Occasionally i get some false alarms with the door sensors. The smartthings community is a great place to learn so many things about this device. There are many community development apps which can be added to your device through IDE and start using it. I'm very happy with the purchase.
