Definitely a helpful tool. I've integrated it with Echo, so we enjoy turning the lights on/off verbally. Also adds to our peace of mind to set alerts for temperature drops or a wet basement. Scheduling the outdoor lights has been useful as well. I'm up to about 15 "things" now, without any real issues. I've been able to purchase a lot a varying hardware that has all been compatible. The only issues I have had, generally surround the use of apps and their unintended results(basically user error).

The smartthings hub is great. It is very simple to set up and everything seems to work right away. I previously had a vera lite hub and it was much more complicated.

Pros. Easy to install and configure with the hub and voice assistants. Cons. Now they are a little pricey. I got them during black friday but I need more of the multipurpose ones and the price went up too high :(

The Best Home Automation Out There

I began using the Lowes Iris system and returned it shortly after 30 days. It had a great deal of limitations and support was terrible. I read many reviews and got good and bad feedback on the SmartThings. I decided to try it myself and have not been disappointed. I think some of the folks that rate it poorly may be not as technically savvy and can't work through some of the set up options and customization. I am currently using it for home security and automation of my garage door and have several Zwave switches and light controls. You won't go wrong with SmartThings.

I'm really enjoying this home automation kit, however that comes with a caveat. If you're looking for something with the simplicity and stability of an Apple product I'd suggest waiting on the SmartThings platform to stabilize or perhaps look at other options. If, however, you're someone that likes to experiment, create apps and apis, and are willing to forgive the occasional service interruption then this is an excellent platform. SmartThings doesn't have it's own restful API however you can create a "SmartApp" that is an entire collection of endpoints to do pretty much whatever you can think up. Is this a good solution? I'm torn, having a fully stable API that's standardized would simplify a lot of the startup, but the SmartApp way you can make whatever you want, it's hosted on Samsung servers and written in Groovy ( ick, but it gets the job done ). The developer community is active, lots of code sharing and Samsung posts a lot of smart apps code as well so it's easy to get up and running. The IDE is web based which imo is a major pita, but at least you can code anywhere and once you have an api up and running you can then code for whatever you want to interface with it. Anyways, that's a super quick review from a geeky engineer so take it with a grain of salt.

Almost.. If you are going in new with no experience with these types of systems, it will try your patience but it is worth the effort. The documentation is lacking plain and simple. Once I got past a few of the initial setup issues, the system is fantastic. I have it connected to many devices, both SmartThings and non. Very, very happy with purchase.

Works well, but not the most intuitive UI

The concept behind SmartThings is excellent. The solution works well, and I've already purchased several devices from varied manufacturers and all connect and operate as expected. Set-up was fast and easy. However, the User interface is not all that intuitive. Things that you would expect to be able to easily access are quite hidden away, and I find that it take some luck to find certain functionality. I also had to do a fair bit of independent research online to figure out how the SmartApps play into the equation, an how to tie things together. With some of this knowledge, it's really a very powerful, yet affordable system. BUT, if you aren't willing to do a little digging to figure things out, you'll only get the basic functionality out of it. Additionally, I'm finding that certain functionality seems to disable itself for no apparent reason (push notifications of events, etc) and resetting it up is a bit troublesome. I've no problem recommending this, but users should expect that this is still a bit of a "lego kit" without great instructions. If I was Samsung, I'd invest in a User Experience designer for the app and take another swing at that piece.

Took me a little to figure out the mobile application, but once I did, things were pretty easy to configure. Linked in the Phillips Hue system (highly recommend), a couple motion sensors, door connectors, and leak sensors. The key is to take a little time learning the app first before configuring. I ended up deleting some configurations before getting them right... but once I did, they've been working great.

Good starter kit for home automation and making your home smarter. Works quickly out of the box. Requires the easy app set up on your phone and can be accessed from your desktop. The included motion sensor, multipurpose sensors and smart plug are fun to use and easy to program. I am able to connect my Ring devices and my Kwikset door lock to the Smartthings hub.

We purchased this system so we could have basic security and automation in our home. The product works well and we haven't had any connectivity issues with it. We do like the idea that you can add monthly monitoring to it, which we will do the couple months of the year when we are traveling. There has been a few reviews online stating that the new Samsung TVs will be able to act as the SmartThings Hub as well at some point this year if not already which would make this hub nothing more than a paperweight for owners of those TV's. I do recommend the product however.

The Smartthings Hub has many great features and works well, however it can be buggy and have down times. Programming is also difficult and confusing. It's hard to decide if you should use routines or smartapps to schedule your lights and scenes.

I got this because i was looking for a DIY security system and this was on sale and you could expand it with smart home products. Well, after i got it and saw how easy it was to connect things, i got smart bulbs to try. I got several Sengled smart bulbs off Amazon (they dont require another hub like the Philips) and they work flawlessly. It was so cool being able to control lights with my phone that i got the Harmony Hub so I could do the same thing with entertainment center. After that I got Alexa so I could control everything just by talking. So what started out as just a DIY security system turned into having, what feels like, a futuristic home. If i would have reviewed this months ago before all the smart home add ons, I would have docked a star because why would you sell a security system that doesnt come with an alarm? Getting a text in the middle of the night is not going to wake me up or scare an intruder. I had to get one off Amazon because Best Buy doesnt sell any. I got the Aeotec Gen5 Siren and it works great. I would give it more than 5 stars because it is so much more than just security.

Bought this set-up and added the Samsung camera after a home invasion. Overall, the kit is easy to set up and functions as it is supposed to, but the phone application (which is used to arm and disarm) can be glicthy after updates. I used to be able to access the camera without using the separate app, but that hasn't worked correctly since the second week.

This system is so easy to set up! You will need to set it up and use it for awhile to understand what additional items you want to use with it. It's compatible with many items to secure and monitor your home. The automation is great, but it takes a while and some trial and error to set it up the way you want it.

I've had this for about a month now and while there have been intermittent problems overall I'm impressed. When it works out works well and there bugs are slowly being worked out. The best thing is it's wide compatibility with other home automation products

This product makes it easy to automate your home. This is the only hub I have tried but everything was set up in a matter of 15-20 mins. There are so many compatible devices that can be used in unison with the ST hub. I've added an auto lock and wifi lightbulbs. I'm constantly looking for other additions to include. I took 1 star away because sometimes pairing the device with other products isn't self explainitory. For example the auto lock. I used a schlage Camelot and it wasn't easily paired until I did some research. But overall compared to having a commercial company do the same thing cost wise, this is the better alternative and it is equal to not any less than.

I purchased the SmartThings about 2 months ago. It took me awhile to figure out how to configure it but most of it was user error. I now have it working correctly. It is connected to about 20 devices including the Honeywell thermostats, front and back door Schlage locks, Samsung robot vacuum, about a dozen different lights, a couple of outlets and a couple of dimmers. I also added an app called SmartTiles and can operate it from any laptop with a pretty cool interface. It connects to GE, Leviton, Samsung, Schlage and Zigbee devices. A little persistence to connect some devices but all working well. I plan on adding additional devices but for now it is good. When I arrive lights come on, the back door unlocks and the thermostats change to my arrival temperature.
