I am just getting into Home Automation and decided to try out both the SmartThings hub as well as the Wink hub. I personally found the Wink hub and app to be more user friendly, and more of the devices I already owned can connect to WInk and not to SmartThings (i.e. Chamberlain MyQ and Emerson Sensi thermostat.). After a few days trying both systems independently, I chose to stay with Wink, and returned the SmartThings hub. While SmartThings seemed to work well with other SmartThing devices and sensors, it felt like alot of things required finding community developed code that may or may not work the way I wanted.

I have mixed feelings about the smartthings. The routines are nice, but would like more settings for the routines. Example, "I'm back" works when someone comes home and the chosen lights turn on. It would be better if the lights turn after someone comes home, but only after a certain time. In my situation, I don't need the lights to turn on when it's daylight out. If there's a setting for it, I haven't found it. There was a glitch within the system and the Smartthings support were awesome in getting back to me and fixing it.

I chose the Smart Things hub after reviewing many options as it seems to have the most active development of all smart home purveyors. The results have been a bit of a mixed bag so far. The hub drops connection from time to time as do the sensors, but so long as you know you're buying in early and there's still some kinks to work out it does the job just fine. The ability to set routines is a welcome one, and makes for a low maintenance experience.

The app is terribly laggy and problematic even after multiple "promised" updates from Samsung. Their very own smartcam pro's compatability sucks (it's far more functional in its native app for the camera). My system randomly triggers the alarm at all hours of the night and then the app lags so bad you can't disarm it making you want to smash the hub into a million pieces. I've never regretted buying an electronic gadget more than this one!

Software needs some tlc. When it works, it's great. When not working, about 10% of the time, it's frustrating.

Still working they the kinks. Does integrate well will a same brand "smart" camera. Hopefully in the future.
