Glad I bought it - technology still a bit immature

I have worked with a number of home automation devices and I find this hub to be as promised relative to supporting a wide range of devices. So I have no regrets in that regard. I have had issues with this hub from the standpoint of working consistently when accessing from my smartphone across my WiFi LAN as compared to accessing from my cellular data network (i.e. WiFi turned off). I have generally received various networking errors when configuring new devices utilizing WiFi from my phone/app and the app seems to work more consistently when I turn WiFi off on my phone and access via cellular data. Not sure why this is but I notice Samsung just issued a new firmware update as of two days ago (4/21/2016) so perhaps this will help. Overall, I find the home automation technology to still be a bit immature in that some devices work better than others and I've run into a fair number of hardware reliability issues at the device level - not related to this hub. But sometimes I find the issues could easily be falsely attributed to the hub by the device manufacturers so be wary when a device maker suggests the issue is with your hub - I have generally found that to not be true - most of my issues have been on the device side of the equation. I don't expect telephone support from any large organizations (like Samsung) but I have emailed Samsung support ([email protected]) and found their support to be responsive and helpful. I have had issues with the Smartthings software/app not being fully mature - for example, the dashboard alerts couldn't be removed/cleaned up so Samsung support had to do that for me from their backend - but they did that readily with an email request. The whole home automation market is still a bit immature as the technology is just past that "early adopter" stage with regard to reliability and consistency. But it does work largely as advertised and I have enjoyed working and experimenting with various devices. In my case, I have both Zigbee and Z-wave devices deployed and have pretty good luck with both using this hub.

    Samsung smarthings is great

I reviewed the smarthings before I purchased the hub. I wanted to control my house lights while, we were away and it works. Setup was easy and connecting the hue lights is simple. The app is straight forward and easy to navigate. The only issue that I have found is sometimes you have to wait on the app to connect to the hub in order to use it. Other than that, Samsung smarthings makes turning your home in a automated home much easier, I’m glad that I made the purchase.

Great hardware but instructions aren't good

Once the hub was plugged in, all devices were recognized with good signal. The instructions weren't good. They didn't even give the website where to download app for my phone or computer. I went online to get more info. This app is OK, not as good as Nest. But it offers monitoring water leak device is hard to find + 50% off, for that I'm grateful.

    Awesome Hardware Ugly App

Everything that promises is delivered. Easy to connect everything and sometimes works better the the original hubs from lights. The only drawback is the app. Is really ugly yet and does not make much sense. If you don’t have a voice assistant it can become really annoying to use.

Robust, easy to use home automation hub

I recently purchased a home that had a few automation devices left it in by the previous owner. I did some research and was happy to see this hub would support all of them along with the devices I moved over with me. It was easy to add this hub and exclude, then add the existing devices. The app isn't the best in the world but the hub is a gem.

    Great Multiprotocol Bridge

All the main IoT underlying protocols are supported. The SmartThings app supports many products, but not all. Samsung claimed at CES that they will move all devices to a single SmartThings platform. Their first step on this path was to rename the Samsung Smart Home app to SmartThings. This is confusing and not as well executed as I would like. I'm still hopeful that the single app will get better.

I selected Smartthings for the wide array of products it controls, and have been pleased -- it works well. The SmartThings app (iOS) is functional, but quirky, and doesn't always respond. I would still recommend to a friend, especially for a first leap into smart home functionality.

The hub itself works great and setup was a breeze but the app for setting up sensors needs some work and can be confusing.

I had a smart lock but did not realize when I bought it that it needed a hub. The other ones were too expensive. The application (on phone) may not be as glitzy or versatile as some but it gets the job done.

I've used this successfully to automate quite a bit of my home. The default app leaves something to be desired, but you can use third party add ons or code yourself to address these.

Most of the reviews of SmartThings were positive, so I picked up this hub with the hopes of managing my new door locks and light bulbs. The initial setup was a nightmare - the Android app would constantly crash, to the point it was unusable. At one point I was even locked out of it due to an authentication error and had to complete reset everything to factory defaults and start over. I never did get it working. The app just crashed any time I attempted to do use it. So, back to the store it went. The story does have a happy ending: I picked up a Wink hub which has been performing wonderfully and actually works with more of my devices.

V1 was an excellent little system for the money. Unfortunately ST got bought out and now they've released V2. Two months in the system still barely works. There is so little functionality that you can't even add additional users. You can only control it from one device. ST takes forever to get back to you from support and either tells you it must be your fault or it's going to be fixed "soon". They've stopped listening to users and have removed most of what made V1 a good system. Constantly broken or non functioning app. I have over 2k invested in ST and compatible devices and it's so bad now that I'm ready to walk away from all of it.

Samsung updated their app end of 2021, which now is making you sign into your account every time you use the app. Also, you must use two step authentication when signing into your account, so this is totally ridiculous too. This unit work well over the last 4 years without having to sign into the app every time to use. But with their most recent update they have made this unit basically unusable
