Works with older Schlage lock and lamp dimmer

Decided I didn't want to pay for Schlage's Nexia online subscription... Bought this on sale for well less than half price of Nexia's annual subscription. Does the job. Plug in lamp dimmer was simple to activate. The lock - was a bit more complicated. Help desk was super helpful - turns out I had to do a factory reset on the lock (since it was tied to Nexia), then have the Smartthings hub 'forget' about the lock and re-activate. All is done via the phone app ("more", then 'Hub is Online", then select "Z-wave utilities", then "General Device Utilities", Then "remove"). Just remember - when the lock is activated, the lock needs to be very close to the hub. Either (uninstall the lock and) bring the lock to the hub or bring the hub to the lock. My 25 ft network cable helped... Overall - very satisfied. Now I can expand with some more Z Wave devices. Note - if you put in a wall switch - make sure you have a white/neutral line in your switch box's wiring.

    Broad compatibility to ZWave devices

I replaced an older Mi Casa Verde ZWave controller with the SmartThings v2 hub. It was pretty easy to setup as I have setup different types of ZWave lights, plugs, and monitors before. It was also nice that it worked well with Google Home to allow voice commands to turn things on and off. The instructions are very sparse, but the online support portal on smartthings was very helpful in determining which devices were compatible or not and how to do common things - like unpairing devices from the previous ZWave hub before repairing to the SmartThings hub and adding devices to rooms. Overall, a positive experience compared to Mi Casa Verde as the App interface is easier to use. You can still create scenes and custom events like the Mi Casa Verde and there are some 3rd party smart apps provided by others to do common scenes.

Glad I bought it - technology still a bit immature

I have worked with a number of home automation devices and I find this hub to be as promised relative to supporting a wide range of devices. So I have no regrets in that regard. I have had issues with this hub from the standpoint of working consistently when accessing from my smartphone across my WiFi LAN as compared to accessing from my cellular data network (i.e. WiFi turned off). I have generally received various networking errors when configuring new devices utilizing WiFi from my phone/app and the app seems to work more consistently when I turn WiFi off on my phone and access via cellular data. Not sure why this is but I notice Samsung just issued a new firmware update as of two days ago (4/21/2016) so perhaps this will help. Overall, I find the home automation technology to still be a bit immature in that some devices work better than others and I've run into a fair number of hardware reliability issues at the device level - not related to this hub. But sometimes I find the issues could easily be falsely attributed to the hub by the device manufacturers so be wary when a device maker suggests the issue is with your hub - I have generally found that to not be true - most of my issues have been on the device side of the equation. I don't expect telephone support from any large organizations (like Samsung) but I have emailed Samsung support ([email protected]) and found their support to be responsive and helpful. I have had issues with the Smartthings software/app not being fully mature - for example, the dashboard alerts couldn't be removed/cleaned up so Samsung support had to do that for me from their backend - but they did that readily with an email request. The whole home automation market is still a bit immature as the technology is just past that "early adopter" stage with regard to reliability and consistency. But it does work largely as advertised and I have enjoyed working and experimenting with various devices. In my case, I have both Zigbee and Z-wave devices deployed and have pretty good luck with both using this hub.

I was impressed with how quickly I got this set up with everything that I use. I have many devices for many different things and I was worried about how this would work and I was surprised that every smart device/camera that I have actually worked without any problems. I am using a total of 6 different security camera manufacturers and every one of them worked without giving me problems.

We have been toying with the idea of a smart hub for a while and working out of town we can now control lightbulbs, thermostat and soon the alarm system. We chose the Smart Hub to integrate more easily with our ADT alarm. It was super easy to install the hub and I had 14 lightbulbs connected in less than 30 minutes. Basically I can switch light on in any room at anytime with my iPhone. We don’t have an Alexa and didn’t want to have to get one. (Creepy!) This negates the need.

Got this hub to connect my Schlage lock when it was on sale. Connected to my router thru Ethernet Port and setup was a breeze using smartthing app. When I synched my Schlage lock, it recognized in first attempt and I could immediately lock and unlock using the app. Also successfully added Netgear security cameras and lights. Now instead of using three different apps, I could use one smartthing app to control multiple things. I highly recommend this to my friends and families.

I haven't actually used it yet so I can't give a hands on account. However what prompted me to buy this was the awesome price 1/2 off almost. Also that it talks to z-wave and also Zigbee. I was tempted to return it when the new Echo's came on the scene with the built in hub. However it only talks with the Zigbee technology. I like the idea of the duality of the Smarythings Hub. I will add comments to this when I have had it in action for a while.

Purchased this hub after a fair amount of research. It worked for me on price, compatibility, and use. Didn't want to spend a ton on a hub so this was great for sub $100, it works with just about anything in the home automation world, I have different brand bulbs, switches, and devices and all seem to operate smoothly. Only thing that has had a hiccup is a Samsung tv, but not a big enough issue for me.

I moved from Staples Connect to Smartthings since the Staples Connect app is no longer updated and it doesn't send notifications anymore on my phone for some reason. Here are some cons I've found when comparing Staples Connect to the Smartthings hub: - Can't schedule an action to occur between specific times - Layer on rules to work concurrently so they don't work independently of each other - The on/off status of certain devices is not updated in real time or immediately sometimes That's as far as I've played around with it so far for basic functionality. For example I haven't messed around with the Smart Apps or the Home Modes yet. As for the pros: + Very simple to set up + Very simple to release and re-configure existing Z-wave devices + I like that it can work with a ton of different devices. + I get push notifications again! I've read there are some third party developed apps that can be added via SmartApps that can fulfill the rule functionality that I'm looking for, but honestly this type of basic configuration should be available from the get go.

Works Great with GE Z-Wave Smart Products

When I was looking to convert my home into a Smart Home, I was overwhelmed with all the options available. One thing for certain, I was looking for a hub that would control a majority of the Smart Products on the market. I did not want to buy smart bulbs, which would be the easiest way to control the lights by just installing the smart bulbs into the socket, because it was going to be expensive to purchase many bulbs & to also replace when they burn out. IMO, Smart switches/dimmers were more economical since we plan to be in the house for the next 15-20 years & it would be a 1 time expense for the light switch which can operare ALL the lights on that circuit. During my research, I found that Samsung SmartThings would meet my needs because it was compatible with many Smart Switches/dimmers. I have the GE ZWAVE switches, dimmers and fan control, which all paired easily with SmartThings Hub and works flawlessly with Google Home. There is also a SmartThings app which allows you to control the Smart Products on your phone. I love it so much, that I bought another Samsung SmartThings hub for our shore house.

Smartthings is the best smart home system available. No other mainstream system is compatible with both Z-Wave and Zigbee platforms. My home has both types of device, all of which work flawlessly. Although the hub is only $99, each smart device that you purchase can add up quickly. I have smart locks on the exterior doors of my home, and a few smart light switches. Each door smart lock was $170, and each switch will run you between $30-$50. I would recommend getting one or two each month. Setting routines is easy and makes routine daily activities (such as walking the entire house to shut off all of the lights before bedtime) extremely easy.

Let me start by saying my first experience with home automation was iris which was terrible I was really looking for something HomeKit enabled I researched staples connect Samsung smart things wemo lutron cadets and wink. I also have a nest cam ring video doorbell and echo all of which works with smart things (iris is not compatible with Eco or nest but even if it was I'd still have switched however to transfer over all of my current devices I would have lost about $300 worth of modules which simply would not have worked with smart things. In the end I chose a wink and I could not be happier all of these smart automations are for us early adapters so when reading reviews I suggest always lining them up newest to oldest as wink had some very Bad reviews in the beginning however a recent software update has greatly improved its functionality Lowes Iris had better reviews before they updated their system and it is a now a fiasco with generation 2. Smart things just like wink recently updated their firmware on this device and the reviews seem to have improved immensely. Again I went with Wink for device compatibility smart things is a great system thus the four star review if you are starting from scratch you probably would want to go with smart things. Wink has the greatest device compatibility as far as connecting across the board however smart things seems to be more stable. So far the only one that is HomeKit compatible is a system that only uses that song devices I believe Lou Tron however zero nada name of my devices I currently own almost $3000 worth yes I even have a Z wave doggie door. Would have worked I would have really had to start over and quite frankly home kit is not as great as it is cracked up to be HomeKit works with nest however it has been my experience that I do more begging with Siri and commanding because I always get the response "I'm not able to do that right now". This has been my review of the smart things generation to Smart hub once again I ended up with wink and could not be happier however if you are starting from scratch you cannot go wrong with smart things. It is really luck of the draw and nothing is 100% perfect. Remember any home phone three VoIP or home automation system is only as good as your router your Wi-Fi signal and since everything is now cloud-based your Internet connection and speed. Word of caution stay away from any device called IVEE. Ivee sleek ivee voice THEY ARE TERRIBLE! I know Everyone has problems none are perfect but one day they'll get it right!

I bought this to replace my Vera hub. It was such a pain to configure and maintain! I've used several platforms over the years and I was skeptical that this would be any better, but WOW was I surprised! It was incredibly easy to set up and pair with all of my existing devices. Even the non-smartthings devices including a Trane thermostat, a Schlage door lock, an Iris garage door controller and an Aeon labs energy meter that I use to tell me when the washer and dryer are done! There is a robust developer environment with people making device handlers for all kinds of third-party hardware. And to top it off scripting events is so easy my 10 year old daughter can do it! To load custom device handler code for some third-party hardware, you need to be a little bit technically savvy. e.g. know where to find the code, where to put it and how to cut and paste! On the other hand there are so many things that are off-the-shelf compatible you may never need to do that. Hats off to Samsung and the Smartthings hub team! Not only would I recommend this to my friends, but I'm telling all my friends who are into or looking at home automation to get one! (Did I mention that I talk to it with my Amazon Alexa?)

The hub works well if it is connected. If your router reboots, the hub does not re-connect. The light remains blue until a physical reboot is made after which it connects to the Smartthings server. It has a lot of compatible devices but all will be useless if the hub is not connected to the server. I think this may be a simple firmware update and it will be perfect.

I recently purchased a home that had a few automation devices left it in by the previous owner. I did some research and was happy to see this hub would support all of them along with the devices I moved over with me. It was easy to add this hub and exclude, then add the existing devices. The app isn't the best in the world but the hub is a gem.
